G.O.A.L.S. We talk about goals A LOT

in 4-H. Goal setting is a skill that is

fundamental to long-term success.

Goals are the journey to a collection of

set achievements. Setting goals starts

with a vision or dream. Have you ever dreamt of having a 4-H project go to the State Fair? As a 4-H’er I know I

did! Setting goals take an intentional plan, time, reflection, willingness to ask for help/mentorship, and dedication.

Reaching your goals don’t happen over night, they take all the components listed above and more! Setting goals

take practice and sometimes they have edits. That means, sometimes we need to take a step-back and go back

to our initial vision to re-evaluate our goal. Once it has been re-evaluated, we may need to make changes to our

plan of action. Sometimes this step can be very hard. If you are anything like me, once I have my mind focused

on something, it is hard for me to make changes because that is not how I initially envisioned it. But, with time, I

have learned that edits are OK!

Even though it’s the start of a new calendar year, it doesn't mark a new 4-H year, it is a time that we can reflect

on what we did in 2018 and review our goals and dreams for 2019. What are your 4-H goals for 2019? Explore a

new project area? Make it to all your club meetings? Make new friends? When thinking about goal setting, re-

member ART; what is the action of your goal, what is the result of the goal and the timeline in which you will

strive to reach your goal. I challenge each and every one of you to participate in something NEW through 4-H in

2019! The opportunities are there...take advantage of them! With 4-H Spirit, Morgan Bjerke

Youth work with a team coach and mentor from the agriculture related field that most closely relates to their project. Youth are also encouraged to connect with rep-resentatives from Iowa State University and the agribusiness community, who are eager to meet and work with the next generation of leaders in agriculture and STEM (science, tech-nology, engineering and mathematics).
