LESSON Daniel 7:1-3, 15-18
A reading from the prophet Daniel.
In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head as he lay in bed. Then
he wrote down the dream: I, Daniel, saw in my vision by night the four winds of heaven stirring up the great sea,
and four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.
As for me, Daniel, my spirit was troubled within me, and the visions of my head terrified me. I approached one
of the attendants to ask him the truth concerning all this. So he said that he would disclose to me the
interpretation of the matter: "As for these four great beasts, four kings shall arise out of the earth. But the holy
ones of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom for ever—for ever and ever."
Celebrant The Word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.
GRADUAL (said responsively by half verse) Psalm 149
1 Hallelujah! Sing to the Lord a new song; *
sing his praise in the congregation of the faithful.
2 Let Israel rejoice in his Maker; *
let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his Name in the dance; *
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
4 For the Lord takes pleasure in his people *
and adorns the poor with victory.
5 Let the faithful rejoice in triumph; *
let them be joyful on their beds.
6 Let the praises of God be in their throat *
and a two-edged sword in their hand;
7 To wreak vengeance on the nations *
and punishment on the peoples;
8 To bind their kings in chains *
and their nobles with links of iron;
9 To inflict on them the judgment decreed; *
this is glory for all his faithful people. Hallelujah!
The people stand as they are able.
During the Sequence Hymn, children from ages 3-7 are invited to walk down the aisle behind a Crucifer (carrying the cross)
and go into the downstairs Day School classroom next to the nursery for Children’s Chapel. They will return at the Peace.
As the Gospel moment approaches, and the book is processed and the music plays, everyone turns and reorients
themselves to face where the Gospel is, for the teachings of Jesus reorient our lives towards Him, and at this moment, we
become the Jesus Movement. –Presiding Bishop Michael Curry

SEQUENCE HYMN It is well with my soul Ville du Havre

GOSPEL Luke 6:20-31
Priest The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Jesus looked up at his disciples and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
“Blessed are you who are hungry now,
for you will be filled.
“Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account
of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what
their ancestors did to the prophets."
"But woe to you who are rich,
for you have received your consolation.
"Woe to you who are full now,
for you will be hungry.
"Woe to you who are laughing now,
for you will mourn and weep.
"Woe to you when all speak well of you,
for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets.
"But I say to you that listen, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray
for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes
away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes
away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

The people may be seated.

THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Celebrant We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning
of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it
your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to
lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
8
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his
resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into
his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Spirit.
At the following words, the Celebrant touches the water
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from
sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the
Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
BAPTISM
Each candidate is presented by name to the Celebrant who then pours water upon the candidate, saying
N., I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Then the Priest places a hand on the person’s head, marking on the forehead the sign of the cross and saying to each one
N., you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own for ever. Amen.
BAPTISMAL HYMN Shall we gather at the river Shall we gather at the river
9
The Celebrant says
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon these your servants
the forgiveness of sin, and have raised them to the new life of grace.
Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to
persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.
Let us welcome the newly baptized.
Celebrant and People
We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and
share with us in his eternal priesthood.

HOLY COMMUNION
OFFERTORY ANTHEM “Hark, I hear the harps eternal” arr. Alice Parker
Combined Choirs
Paula Becker, soloist
Hark, I hear the harps eternal Ringing on the farther shore,
As I near those swollen waters With their deep and solemn roar.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, Hallelujah, praise the Lamb!
Hallelujah, hallelujah, Glory to the great I AM!
And my soul, tho’ stain’d with sorrow, Fading as the light of day,
Passes swiftly o’er those waters, To the city far away.
Souls have crossed before me saintly, To that land of perfect rest;
And I hear them singing faintly In the mansions of the blest.
Giving through your phone is now available!

GREAT THANKSGIVING Eucharistic Prayer B
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give God thanks and praise.
10
Then, facing the Holy Table, the Celebrant proceeds
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator
of heaven and earth.
For in the multitude of your saints you have surrounded us with a great cloud of witnesses, that we might rejoice
in their fellowship, and run with endurance the race that is set before us; and, together with them, receive the
crown of glory that never fades away.
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven,
who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
SANCTUS arr. Jim Douglas
11
Then the Celebrant continues
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the
calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made
flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior
and Redeemer of the world.
In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us
out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night before he died for us, our
Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this,
all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore, according to his command, O Father,
Celebrant and People
We remember his death,
We proclaim his resurrection,
We await his coming in glory.
The Celebrant continues
And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation,
this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be
the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice,
that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things
in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with the ever-blessed Virgin Mary,
Margaret and all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By him, and
with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.
Amen.
LORD’S PRAYER
Celebrant And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
People Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
12
BREAKING OF THE BREAD
Celebrant God of promise, you have prepared a banquet for us.
People Happy are those who are called to the Supper of the Lamb.

COMMUNION ANTHEM “The Road Home” Stephen Paulus
Combined Choirs
Sarah Balcom, soloist
Tell me where is the road I can call my own, that I left, that I lost, so long ago?
All these years I have wandered, oh when will I know there's a way, there's a road that will lead me home?
After wind, after rain, when the dark is done, As I wake from a dream in the gold of day,
through the air there's a calling from far away, there's a voice I can hear that will lead me home.
Rise up, follow me, come away, is the call, with the love in your heart as the only song;
there is no such beauty as where you belong; rise up, follow me, I will lead you home.
13
COMMUNION HYMN In the sweet by and by Webster
