Getting older in NIThere are more than 350,000 people over 60 (20% of the population)

There are more people over the age of 50 than under 19 years

By 2033, those aged 85+ will account for 4% of the population (1 person in every 25)

• Increase the voice of older people through lobbying, campaigning and influencing decision-makers

• Improving the sustainability of the age sector

All Party Group on Ageing and Older People

• To promote a better understanding of the issues facing older people

• To influence legislation to maintain equality and support services in line with the needs of an ageing population

Purpose• To ensure that the issues facing older

people are a priority for the NI Assembly

• To monitor implementation of the Ageing Strategy, providing analysis of its impact through feedback from the age sector and others

• To facilitate cross party discussion and co-operation

• To bring together MLAs and the age sector to engage in dialogue on how to improve legislation and services

• To promote the rights of older people in NI
