Paradigm Next Generation Ultra-Slim On-Wall Millenia Speakers

Ultra-slim, flat-panel televisions now have the perfect partners which offer sound that TVs can only dream of. Paradigms next genera-tion Millenia LP 2 and the new Millenia LP XL speakers are high-performance speakers that integrate reference-quality build and materi-als into a form factor thats just 1-3/4 deep. Todays flat panel televisions simply dont pro-vide good enough sound performance. Both new models are meticulously engineered by Paradigm to incorporate the predictable ef-fects of a wall on the speakers frequency re-sponse. Their ultra-thin enclosure is optimized to exploit the maximum wall area for a complete absence of vibration, even when performing at maximum out-put. Like all Paradigm Millenia speakers, these new models high-frequency drivers exhibit tremendous clarity and transparency. Midrange drivers deliver an accurate, lifelike and revealing performance with extraordinary detail. Bass response, free of cone standing waves and micro distortions, offers exceptional articulation. Both models are designed for two-channel or multi-channel configurations and can be mounted horizontally or verti-cally. $559/each (Millenia LP 2) and $769/each (Millenia LP XL). www.paradigm.com

Pioneer Elite VSX-44 and VSX-80 Home Theatre Receivers

Pioneer has expanded its line of Elite AV receivers with two new models, designed with consumers and custom installers in mind. Both models provide installation friendly attributes as well as optimal listening and viewing performance fea-tures. Highlights of the receivers include HDMI 2.0 connec-tivity, Roku Ready certification, access to a host of Internet radio music services, expanded multi-zone and multi-source management and functionality, as well as smart phone / tab-

let control. The higher VSX-80 model also features an ESS SABRE Premier Audio DAC, RS-232 and IP Control, 4K Ultra HD 60P Video Up-Scaling, and multi-channel high resolution playback. Also on-board the VSX-80 is Pio-neers Advanced MCACC with Subwoofer EQ, which helps create the optimum acoustic environment for movies and music. The VSX-44 is equipped with the standard MCACC system. Both receivers use a microphone and a subwoofer EQ (new for 2014 on the VSX-80) to compensate for differences in speaker sizes, output levels, and distances from the users listening positions automatically. For advanced home theatre control, the VSX-80 is compatible with the most popular custom control companies, Crestron and Control4, and offers custom installa-tion features including full two-way RS-232C-over-IP control, with the ability to receive metadata from network and iOS connected devices. VSX-44 ($549), VSX-80 ($749). www.pioneerelectronics.ca

    Nordost Tyr 2 Power Cord

Nordosts new Tyr 2 power cord bridges the gap in AC supply between the Frey 2 and Valhalla cables. The Tyr 2 is comprised of seven silver plated, solid-core 16 AWG OFC conductors that lend to an important consistency throughout the Tyr 2 range. This type of construction eliminates strand interaction, which would otherwise com-promise the sound and integrity of the cable. In order to further enhance performance by decreasing resistance and signal loss, Nordost employs the use of extruded FEP insulation which is superior to all other insulation methods. Like its Norse 2 counterparts, the Tyr 2 power cord implements mechanically tuned lengths. This unique technique allows Nordost cables to reduce internal microphony and high frequency impedance resonance that could radically diminish a cables performance. Where the Tyr 2 power cord breaks away from other Norse 2 family AC supply options is with the in-corporation of Nordosts proprietary Dual Mono-Filament technology. Also used in the Valhalla 2 Reference range, this innovative technology extends this Norse 2 cable range into the realm of Nordosts Reference line. $3,199 for a 1m length; add $600 for each additional meter. www.nordost.com

Nordost LS Blue Heaven and Heimdall 2 iKables For Portable Audio Devices

Almost everyone these days owns a portable device loaded with music. Nordosts latest LS Blue Heaven and Heimdall 2 iKables are designed to let you unleash the music from the portable devices 3.5 mini stereo jack and connect it to car and home stereos. At their core both iKables are constructed from 4 silver plated, solid-core 24 AWG OFC conductors and employ Nordosts innovative precision FEP extrusion technology. This process greatly reduces the dielectric properties in the cables in order to increase signal speed and accuracy in signal transfer. This on its own makes a significant improvement upon the standard interconnects used with portable audio devices. However, the Heimdall 2 version takes it a step forward. It uses Nordosts proprietary Dual Mono-Filament technology, suspending the con-ductors in a virtual air-dielectric which decreases the resistance and signal loss even further than what is possible with the Blue Heaven. Additionally, the Heimdall 2 iKable utilizes mechanically tuned lengths which are proven to reduce internal microphony and high frequency impedance resonance. Both iKables are available in the following terminations: 3.5mm stereo mini to 3.5mm stereo mini, 3.5mm ste-reo mini to 2x XLR and 3.5mm stereo mini to 2x RCA. $214.99 (1m LS Blue Heaven iKable), $460 (1m Heimdall 2 iKable). www.nordost.com

    Infinity Reference Series Loudspeakers

The new Infinity Reference Series uses CMMD (Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm) trans-ducer technology, a proprietary process that combines a ceramic surface to aluminum cones to provide an ideal stiffness-to-weight ratio while helping to move resonances up in frequency and out of the pass-band of the drivers. The three-way loudspeaker mod-els R263, R253 and RC263 utilize a unique flat-piston CMMD midrange driver that helps reduce diffraction in the critical high and mid-frequency bands. The 1-inch CMMD tweeter found in all full-range models is mated to an advanced waveguide. The RC263 centre channel is a 3-way model with a flat-piston midrange driver that provides clarity and precision in vocal reproduction. The RC263 and the smaller RC252 centre chan-

nel loudspeakers are sonically matched to the companion floorstanding, bookshelf, and surround speakers. The RS152 Surround Channel loudspeaker is ideally suited for multi-channel music and home theatre. It uses a patented Hemispherical Soundfield Technology (HST), which is designed to provide remarkably balanced coverage across a 180-degree hemispherical listening area with greater consistency then traditional, on-the-wall loudspeakers. The SUB R10 and SUB R12 powered subwoofers round out the Reference Series. $349 to $1,099 (US) depending on the model. www.infinityspeakers.com

    MartinLogan Dominant Motion XT Speakers

MartinLogan has just added three new powerful speakers to its Motion Series - the Motion 60XT floorstander, the Motion 50XT centre channel, and the Motion 35XT bookshelf. XT stands for extreme, and for good reason. The new Motion XT speakers play louder, lower, and with unflinching accuracy. Larger woofers and cabinets,

paired with the companys most accurate Folded Motion XT driver, deliver an engaging and en-compassing experience that cuts straight to the emotion locked inside your favourite record-ings. Motion XT speakers feature a ferocious combination of high-performance components; high-excursion, black aluminum cone woofers with low-turbulence, rear-firing, bass ports pro-vide extended, powerful bass; larger more accurate Folded Motion XT tweeters boast a radiat-ing surface 40% larger than other Motion Series speakers for ultra-low distortion; and a dedi-cated mid-woofer on the Motion 60XT promotes an even more open, revealing and authentic sound in the critical midrange. The result is acoustic alchemy across the frequency spectrum,

    creating an unbelievably realistic musical experience. $3,299-$3,499/pair (Mo-tion 60XT), $999-$1,099/each (50XT), $1,299-$1,399/pair (35XT). www.martinlogan.com
