What is expected of our schools…?
The standards and quality of what happens in schools is overseen by Ofsted (The Office for Standards in Education).
Schools are regularly inspected by Ofsted and publish their reports on their website.
A major aspect of Ofsted’s function is to ensure that children are safe in school at all times.
All schools require a Safeguarding Policy, agreed by the School Governors, to which every adult is accountable at all times. Stringent rules apply.
Your visits: what can you expect? You will visit 2 – 3 schools over 2 days
You will be collected from the Cunard Building at 10am by taxi
They have prepared a programme which includes opportunities to observe lessons, talk to staff and children and to explore any particular interests you may have – especially around the themes of education and business
You will be collected from the school and returned to the Cunard Building between 2pm and 3pm
you will not require a CRB check
There will be a debrief with Sir Paul Grant
What is expected of our schools… and what will be expected of you?
There are very strict rules to cover the safety and well-being of children and young people in schools.
Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks cover adults in contact with children
You should not be alone with children: there must always be a member of the school staff present with you.
You are not allowed to take photos of children without the permission of the head teacher
No physical contact
How can you prepare for your visits?
What am I looking for from my visit?
Do I want to explore the possibility of developing further links with the school in the future?
What would I want from these links?
What barriers to developing links may there be and how might I offer to help to overcome them?
How can you evaluate your school visits?
What were the most interesting points to arise from the visit?
What would you like to clarify or explore further with colleagues at conference?
What action are you going to take on return home?
