The air recycling control button is no longer fitted. This function is now car-
ried out by th e air flow control knob.

from inside the passenger compartment).

- the cover by removing the two bolts (H).

Fit plugs to the tubes and the expansion valve.
Unclip the p ressure sensor and detach it from th e
engine, then remove the scuttle pan el partition,
five bolts (C).
REMOVAL
Remove:
- the w indscr een w iper ar ms,
- the upper scut tle panel sea l,- the air in let gr ille,
- the battery,
- the coolant deflector located on the fan as-
sembly, two bolts (F).
Drain the R134a refrigerant circuit usin g the fil-
ling station.
Remove the acoustic tie rod betw een the shock
absorber turrets.
Disconnect the tubes taking th e R134a to th e ex-pan sion valve (bolt E: 0.8 daN.m).

Disconnect th e 15 track resistance unit connector
on the air conditioning u nit.
Remove the air cond itioning unit mou ntings, two
bolts (A) and one nut (B).
Remove the air conditioning u nit via the scuttlepanel partition opening.
SPECIAL NOTES
Remove the four heat shield m oun ting bolts on
the bulkhead.
• E7J engine
Remove the air filter.
Protect the inlet apertu re.
Release the air filter from the top of the engine.
• K7M engine
Remove:
- the air filter hose after disconnecting the airtemperature sensor,
- the throttle body (four bolts + connections)
and detach it from the top of the engine.
• F3R engine
Remove the accelerator cable mounting, tw o
bolts + switches.
• F8Q engine
Remove:
- the breather hose mounting bracket ,
- the pre-heating unit mounting pla te .
Unclip the solenoid valve connectors.
Remove the solenoid valve hose.
• All types
Remove the mou nting bolt (D) from th e connec-
ting hose.
Raise the end of the connecting h ose to detach
the pan el seal and m ove it slightly to the right
hand side.

Drain the circuit using a vacuum pu mp , then refill
the circuit with R134a refrigerant using the filling
station.
IMPORTANT: ensur e that the seals are in goodcondition. Lubricate the seals with PLANETELF
Sanden 488.
REFITTING
Position the air conditioning u nit on the centring
device (H). Refitting is the reverse of removal.
AIR CONDITIONING FAN
REMOVAL
The fan is removed after removal of the air condi-tioning un it.
Remove the three fan mounting bolts on the air
conditioning u nit then release the fan.
Disconnect the feed connector (I).

- the 15 track connector and the micromotor
connector (J),
- the fan connector then remove the resistance
un it, one bolt.
AIR RECYCLING MICROMOTOR
REMOVAL
The micromotor can be removed after the aircond itioning u nit is removed.
Disconnect the connector (J) then un clip th e
micromotor (see arrows).
REFITTING
Place the flap and the micromotor in the outside
air intake position.
Engage the motor sp rocket on the flap spr ocket
and clip the micromotor into place holding theflap in the ou tside air intake position. Once the
micromotor is refitted, the flap seal shou ld cor-
rectly ensu re the seal with the air cond itioning
unit.
Check the cond ition of the seal.
REFITTING
Refitting is the reverse of remova l.
NOTE: if the resistance unit has to be rem oved,
you MUST check that the fan rotates freely. If it
does not, replace it.

REMOVAL
It is no longer necessary to open the refrigerant
circuit to remove the air d istribution unit. There is
therefore no need to fill or d rain for this opera-tion. How ever, to access the d istribution un it
mou nting bolt located in the scuttle panel, follow
the method described below.
Remove:
- the w indscr een w iper ar ms,
- the upper scut tle panel sea l,
- the air in let gr ille,
- the battery,
- the acoustic tie rod between the shock absor-
ber turrets.
Unclip the pressure sensor and detach it from the
engine, then remove the scuttle pan el partition,
five bolts (C).
(see the sp ecial notes for particular engines in th e
"fan assem bly" section).
Remove the connecting h ose mou nting bolt (D).
Raise the end of the connecting hose to release
the p anel seal.

rature sensor to be fitted wh en an evaporator

There are certain cond itions regard ing illumination of the control pa nel tell-tale lights:
- The A.C. tell-tale light illum inates when air conditioning is requested an d wh en the first fan speed is set. It
is memorised w hen the ignition is switched off.
IMPORTANT:
Whenever the air conditioning computer is replaced, enter G49*25 on the XR25 to confi-
gure it with auto-setting and enter G49*6 to configure with trifunction pressostat or enter
G49*5 to configure with pressure sensor.

Before establishing comm un ication between the XR25 and the control unit, check that you have sw itched
the ignition on.
Ensure that the XR25 is not the cause of the fault by trying to comm un icate with a compu ter on another
vehicle.
Check that the ISO selector is in position S8 , that you are u sing XR25 cassette 18 and the correct access
code (D 17).
Check battery voltage (U > 10.5 vol ts). Rechar ge the battery if necessary.
Check that the control un it connectors are plugged in prop erly.
Check that the air conditioning control u nit is correctly fed:
- earth on track 4 of the 15 track red connector
- + after igni tion feed on track 6 of the 15 track red connector
Check that the d iagnostic socket is correctly fed:
track K track 6 of the 30 track grey air conditioning
track L track 3 control unit connector
If d ialogue is still not established between the XR25 and the control u nit, replace the air conditioning
control unit.
You can begin fault find ing.
