The Rite of Passage which is a Citadeleducation leads to the wearing of TheRing, but more importantly, it preparesmen and women for lives in which serviceto God, family and country are fundamen-tal. It is with good reason that the words,“Duty, Honor, Country” are placed fore-most before those who attend The Citadel.
Our graduates find their ways into pro-fessions, politics, business, education, government and military service. Manyhave distinguished themselves and wehold them up as examples to which our
young graduates may aspire. We honor and cherish the memory of
all graduates who have died in defense ofour country – every class has memberswho have given their lives that freedommight prevail. We stand on their shouldersand live free because of their sacrifice.
We who wear The Ring are proud andhumbled to wearit. We rememberand retell tales ofour own rites ofpassage and wehonor those whowill join us soon
and in the distant future. The author is a member of Citadel Class
of ‘56, father of a member of the Class of‘82 and grandfather of two current Cadets,
Class of ‘07 and ’09.
