Litefront – all-glass balustrades in perfection
Litefront, the tried-and-trusted all-glass balustrade system, can be connected to the structure in a variety of ways thanks to its sophisticated height-adjustable design. The system provides excellent protection against falling without obstructing views.
As required by the European Construction Products Regulation, this document contains a Declaration of Performance template, and also various load-dependent glass and bracket pre-dimensioning tables, enabling design proposals to be quickly and easily developed.
Advantages:
• Unrestricted view• Extremely flexible• Quick, uncomplicated installation• Multifunctional brackets with adjustable height• Optimal integration in the structure’s thermal insulation• Drainage feature possible• Maximum safety due to linear mounting• No glass tension• Glass is easy to replace
Compliant with standards*:
• EN 1090• EN 1999-1-1• DIN 18008• Etag 001
German “General Appraisal Certificates” (allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Prüfzeugnisse, AbP) available:

Application notes
Long profiles must be equipped with dilatation joints to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction.
The following dilatation joint widths (“S” = gap between the profiles) must be adhered to depending on the installation temperature.
Working joints and connection joints with a suitable expansion detail (e.g. membrane sealing system).
Dilatation joints:

Explanation of Declaration of Performance (DoP)
Construction Products Regulation
The Construction Products Regulation ( CPR 305 / 2011 ) came into force on 1st July 2013 and replaced the previous Construction Products Directive.
The most important change was that all products that are subject to a "harmonised European standard" (hEN) or a "European Technical Evaluation" (ETA) must be provided with a "Declaration of Performance" (DoP), which must be made available to the customer.
Consequences for all metal fabricators
The tasks of the manufacturer and the certification body are listed in the following table (from EN 1090-1).
The systems for evaluating and reviewing performance capability are described in the Construction Products Regulation. The standard EN 1090-1 makes reference to System 2+.
"Litefront" balustrades in/on residential buildings are generally manufactured in execution class EXC 1. For all other building types, the balustrades are manufactured in execution class EXC 2.
Consequences for all Litefront suppliers
The “Litefront” supplier (producer) must demonstrate a certified FPC (factory production control) and provide the customer with the Declaration of Performance.

Drainage profile and silicone seals
A seam of silicone sealant (approx. 15x15 mm) must be applied along the bottom of both ends of the drainage profile as shown, before clipping on the drainage profile. This prevents the capillary effect along the grooves.
1. Prepare drainage
If used outdoors*, the glass holding profile must be equipped with a drainage feature.
3 options are available:
A The profile consists of one continuous section which is open at the ends, allowing water to drain off at the ends.
B The profile consists of one continuous section which is closed at the ends by end plates.
Drill drainage holes before installation(1x / section, d=8mm). The drainage profile is clipped on at the end of installation and connected to a PVC hose.
C The profile consists of several sections.
At the end of installation, the drainage profiles are clipped on in the joint area and connected to a PVC hose. Wall connections and profile connections must be in the form of dilatation joints (see page 10).
* If the glass is going to be installed at a later point, the opening of the glass holding profile must be covered to prevent water ingress.

2a. Mount L- / U-brackets as required onto Litefront profile
The factory-prepared brackets are slid onto the Litefront profile from one end, at the required locations (dimensions A/B) and with the required orientation.
Attention:Since the Litefront profile is asymmetric(one side with fewer grooves), attentionmust be paid to its orientation!
The required number of brackets is dependent on the bracket spacing (“X”), and must be determined in advance.
3. Position and align the construction
Keep the profiles clean and free of damage!
Distribute brackets with required spacing, align profile horizontally and vertically with a spirit level, install anchors.
Please note:The first bracket pair at each end must be centred 250mm from the end of the profile (see illustration).
The brackets of each bracket pair must be offset from each other as shown.
2b. Mount L-brackets (heavy) as required onto Litefront profile
The factory-prepared brackets are slid onto the Litefront profile from one end, at the required locations (dimensions A/B) and with the required orientation.
Important:The THREADED PIN (with stainless steel clamping plate in place) must be SECURELY TIGHTENED BEFORE THE CONSTRUCTION IS POSITIONED AND ALIGNED!
This fixes the bracket securely to the Litefront profile.

5. Stick rubber U-profile to the bottom of the glass
Stick the self-adhesive rubber U-profile along the full length of the lower edge of the glass (firmly press adhesive surfaces onto both sides of the glass).
Important:The glass must be CLEAN AND DRY before the rubber U-profile is stuck to it.
4. Check glass thickness
Before inserting the glass: Measure whether the minimum glass thickness (d -0.5mm) has been adhered to!
Otherwise mask off edge of glass with double sided adhesive tape (d=0.5mm) until required glass thickness has been achieved.
Attention:If the tolerances (-0.5) are not satisfied, stability is not ensured!
6. Insert glass with plastic support pads beneath
Check base of Litefront profile for cleanliness before inserting glass. Two plastic support pads must be inserted beneath each panel. Then the sides of the rubber U-profile on the bottom of the glass are sprayed with a little soapy water and the glass is lowered into position.
Please note:The two plastic support pads must each be centred at a distance of 120 mm from the end of the glass panel, as illustrated.

7. Align glass with adjusting wedges
Vertically align and temporarily secure glass with 1-2 wedges per side of each panel. A gap of at least 8 mm* must be left at the end of each panel. This gap can be maintained, and tilting of one panel relative to the other can be prevented, by connecting two flat bars (e.g. plastic support pads), tension-free, across the gap as illustrated using a suitable cable tie.
Please note:The adjusting wedges should have an acute angle of approx. 10°.
*Note:Permitted joint width: 8 to 30 mm (according to DIN 18008)
Installation
8a. WET GLAZING: Secure the glass panels
The appropriate filling compound (min. Shore-A hardness 55) is injected along the base of the glass panels at each side, between the adjusting wedges. The wedges must be left in place until the filling compound has hardened sufficiently*.
Please note:The filling compound is injected to a height of approx. 13mm below the top of the Litefront profile, as illustrated.
* HARDENING TIME = 48h (2 days) Complete hardening of the filler after about 1 week.
Version 1: WET GLAZING (8a + 8b)
Note:A silicone seal is also formed between the glass panels, at the bottom (inside the Litefront profile).
This seal must not extend upwards (the visible parts of the panels must not be sealed together)!
8b. WET GLAZING: Insert structure connection sheeting (if any) and apply silicone seals
After removing the adjusting wedges (when safe to do so), and hooking in the structure connection sheeting (if any), apply a silicone seal at both sides of the glass, as shown. The temporary fittings at the joints between panels (flat bars and cable ties, or similar) can then be removed.

9a. Fall side - Filler rod (hard)
The filler rod (hard) is inserted along the entire length of the glass:
- Filler rod Ø 7.3 for LSG 21 mm- Filler rod Ø 5.3 for LSG 25 mm
The adjusting wedges are carefully removed as the rod is inserted, ensuring that the alignment of the glass is not affected.
Important:It is imperative for the hard filler rodto be placed at the fall side.
9b. Impact side - Filler string (soft)
Then, the filler string (soft) is inserted along the entire length of the glass at the impact side and, using a roll-in tool or a ruler, for example, pushed downwards as far as it will go.
- Filler string Ø 7.5 for LSG 21 mm- Filler string Ø 5.5 for LSG 25 mm
This solution with filler rod/string only in combination with handrail or protective U-profile along top of glass panels (to prevent loss of panel alignment).

10a. Insert alignment inserts
The alignment inserts are inserted, using the appropriate tool (see sketches), at both sides and along the entire length of the glass (except at adjusting wedges, where a gap of up to 35 mm may be left). The inserts are then gently tapped into place.
The alignment inserts to be used depend on the glass thickness:
- Dry glazing alignment insert for LSG 21 mm- Dry glazing alignment insert for LSG 25 mm
Tip:Cut inserts to size with a metal saw.
10b. Align glass panels in relation to each another
Remove adjusting wedges.
By slightly raising or lowering the alignment inserts using the insertion tool, loss of glass panel alignment can be corrected (± 5 mm for panel height (Gh) = 1 m).
Tip: If an alignment insert falls all the way into the profile, it can be simply brought out again (upwards) using the other, pointed end of theinsertion tool.
Note:A silicone seal is also formed between the glass panels, at the bottom (inside the Litefront profile). This seal must not extend upwards (the visible parts of the panels must not be sealed together)!
10c. Insert structure connection sheeting (if any) and rubber seals

Installation
Alignment insert for 21mm panels
10d. Rubber seal’s removable strip
Where structure connection sheeting is inserted into the gap, the thickness of the rubber seal must be reduced accordingly.
This can be achieved by stripping off the rubber strip along the inside of the rubber seal, as illustrated.

12. Cleaning and care
Clean glass with a soft cloth and a normal glass cleaning solution.
CAUTION: Improper cleaning can cause damage!
- Never use metal blades to clean the panes of glass, even if this is recommended.
- Do not use abrasive or scratching materials.- Never use strongly solvent-containing or abrasive cleaning agents.- Do not use alkalis (bases). - Dirt particles in cloths can scratch the glass.- The use of a high pressure washer is not
suitable for cleaning.
11. Attach handrail or protective strip (if any) to top of glass
Where required, the stainless steel handrail of protective strip can finally be attached to the top of the glass panels.
With handrail profile:
Apply suitable adhesive rubber or a sufficient* quantity of transparent silicone (LSG film-compatible) to the handrail profile, and stick along the top of the glass.
* Depending on country-specific standards / requirements
With protective strip:
The customer-provided protective strip (stainless steel, 1.5 mm thick) is affixed with double-sided adhesive tape directly to the top of the glass panel (clean beforehand).
One protective strip is glued onto each glass panel (not continuous across gaps between panels).
