Some will experience back pain due to mechanical issues with the spine or muscles of the back, including disc issues, trigger points, and muscle spasms. There are several conditions that may cause back pain, including arthritis, spinal stenosis, and fibromyalgia. While these are factors that may not be preventable, there are several risk factors that are preventable. Being overweight can put stress on the spine and back muscles. Smokers also are more at risk for developing back pain, as the body heals more slowly in smokers. Poor physical fitness is also a risk for developing back pain, as the muscles and skeletal structures of the back are not as strong and you may be more prone to injury and weakness. Injuries can also cause back pain. Improperly lifting heavy objects, reaching too far, or sports injuries can all cause chronic back pain. How Can I Prevent Back Pain? If you have a condition or mechanical issue that causes your back pain, it may be difficult to prevent it completely, but there are certainly measures that can be taken to reduce pain. Frequent exercise and keeping back muscles strong is important to prevent and reduce back pain, and staying a healthy weight will also help. Causes

Back pain is caused by a wide variety of factors.
