PREPRATION FOR YEAR 11 IN 2017
The transition from Year 10 into Year 11 marks the important point at which students begin to
consolidate their courses for the completion of the Western Australian Certificate of Education. The
choice of courses will combine to provide a number of pathways leading to options students may
choose to follow after completing their secondary education. These options are University, TAFE,
Apprenticeships, Training Schemes and/or entry into the workforce.
To assist students and parents to make informed decisions regarding courses to be studied in Year 11
and 12, and possible careers, the College offers a comprehensive program to Year 10 students and
their parents. Part of this program are two important information evenings. The first information
evening is on Wednesday 11th May where students are given their copy of the Secondary Information
Booklet and Courses Selection Guide as well as a Year 11 Subject Selection form.
They will also be given information regarding the Year 11 & 12 courses as a great pastoral care and
career guidance, camps and socials, leadership opportunities and cultural and spiritual enrichment.
The second information evening is the Year 10 TAFE and UNI Information Evening. The difference
between TAFE and UNI will be explained to help students decide on their options after completing
their secondary education. This will be held on Wednesday 18th May from 7.00 - 8.00pm.
NAPLAN TESTS
In week 3 of this term the Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 students will be sitting the 2016 NAPLAN tests. These are
the National Assessments for Literacy and Numeracy, held all around Australia on 10th, 11th and 12th
May. The students and teachers have all been preparing for these tests and we wish them all the best.

accompany your child and be handed into the College Office upon their return. A medical certificate
may be required to explain prolonged absences. We would like to thank parents for starting off 2016
so well with phoning the College Office with absences.

We would like to thank our Head Boy Zack Lawton and our Head girl Melissa Martin for their
preparation and the inspiring reading and reflection during our Anzac Assembly. We, at Alkimos
Baptist College, will not forget what our Diggers have done for our nation, we are grateful for all
our privileges and freedom. Mr Graham recapped the Anzac History during his Principal’s address
to the school and reminded us all of the significant sacrifices that were made for our country.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
Lest we forget
Pot Plant Donations
Our Garden club requires the donation of any small

Athletics Carnival On Friday the 10th of June we will be holding our Primary Athletics Carnival at Ridgewood Reserve. This is a great day of competition and fun with students from PP to Year 6 all participating in a variety of events. Currently we are looking for parent helpers to assist throughout the day. Every endeavor will be made to allow these helpers to spend the majority of their time with one specific class. If you are able, to help please see Mr Stravens.
Lunchtime Sport This term students have the opportunity to sign up to play Netball. The school has marked a regulation size court on our oval to use for these matches. Students in Year 3 - 6 will be split in teams and play matches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. During sport students have learnt the basic rules and skills of netball and will continue to develop in their ability during the term. Congratulations to the Watermatrons who were our Term 1 winners of Capture the Flag. In what was a battle of the defenses, they showed great speed and stamina to come out on top.
Morning Training Club Our morning training club is underway once again with a wonderful turn out to our first session. With much of the focus going towards preparing for our Interschool Cross Country students will work on improving their fitness and running capabilities. Even if not interested in Cross Country all students are welcome to attend to achieve their own personal fitness goals. Training begins at 7:30 and runs through until 8:10. Students are encouraged to bring a snack for after training and must change back into their regular uniform if it is not their sport uniform day.
