Following NASAs announcement last monthabout the potential discovery of life on Mars,Stuart tylor takes a look at one of the morecontroversial implications of this highlyremarkable discovery.

On Tuesday August 6th 1996, NASAadministrator Daniel Goldin said the following, highly significant, words:

"NASA has made a startling discovery thatpoints to the possibility that a primitive form ofmicroscopic life may have existed on Marsmore than three billion years ago." Ever sincethat historic moment, the meteorite fragment, labelled ALH 84001, has re-ignited the debateon whether or not we are alone in the universe. However, Goldin made a point that thelifeforms themselves are only smali, single-ce11structures and not the likes of a higher life formsuch as the fictional Martian invaders createdby H G \fells.

ORIOIII OF I||E $PIIIESNonetheless, if confirmed, this discovery couldpotential ly bring our own origins into question- Richard Zare of Stanford University (one ofthe scientific groups who examined themeteorite) noted that life on Earth may wellhave been 'seeded' by a meteorite entering ourorbit from [Lars. Zare added that if this theory

became fact then that would technicallymake us all Martians.

Zare's idea is echoed by RayBradbury atthor of The MartianChronicles, who feels that we shouldland on Mars to find out for ourselveswhether there is life on the red planet.NASAs Daniel Goldin echoes theauthor 's sent iments, saying that rheMars discovery will kick-start 'a world-wide mission' to search the planet formore samples.

President Clinton has fully backedGoldin's suggestion, saying that therewould be a fol low-up investigation intopossible life on Mars, which wiil includean unmanned space probe programme.A summit to discuss this programmeand future US space policy has beenscheduled for November.

!^l ||RT ilt)(I?This December, the first in a series ofMars missions will be launched todetermine whether life exists beneaththe planet's surface. It has beentheorised that when the atmosphere wasdestroyed more than two billion yearsago, life-forms may have travelledbeneath the surface to track thehabitable areas of liquid water.

There could be a long wait forconciusive evidence as, unfortunately, the mission that will bring Martiansamples back to Earth is not scheduleduntil the year 2005.

BA PIIOTGoGs PUHIGBritish Airways pilot Mark Stuartdecided that the time was right to finallycome forward and tell the story of hisUFO experience which occurred ert

January 6th 1,995.At 6.48pm, BA flight 5061 was

cruising over the Pennines, preparing tobegin its descent into Ringway Airport,Manchester. It was then that CaptainRoger lfills and First Officer MarkStuart saw a triangular object chargetowards them. For a few seconds thepair were able to watch the object as itpassed by their aircraft and disappearedfrom sight. lfith the object not beingvisible to air traffic control, the pair hadno choice but to f i le their experience asa near air miss, thus leading to anextremely lengthy investigation by theCivil Aviation Authority.

Brazil was again the site of aUFO controversy when a largemetal l ic saucer, 165 feet indiameter. descended over asugar cane field in Guarabira.

The incident took place onSaturday August | Oth, and is thethird dayl ight sighting of a discto take place this year (previous

sightings taking place in Apriland June).

Oriel Farias, a Ufologist from

Joao Pessoa, said, "Um grande

objeto em forma de disco,"descended slowly from thecloudless sky, startling rwowomen in the process. Ataround 5pm another smallerUFO was spotted high in thesk5 emanating an extremelybright white light.

However, by all accounts themost spectacular sight tookplace after dark. At around9pm, three UFOs of a tr iangularshape were seen travellingslowly across the sky. Then, in adisplay that lasted only a fewminutes, the objects began tozig-zag through the night sky.

The following day, Ufologistsfrom Ioao Pessoa interviewed*itn.lses and examined the site. After testing the soil at the field

where the first saucer was seen, the Ufologists found high tracesof magnetism.

Beligious GonsequenoesThe religious community has slowly been coming to terms with the idea that humanity

might not have such a unique status in the universe.According to Sayyid Syeed of the Islamic Society of North America, the Koran gives

man a specific mission on Earth, but there is room to interpret that God may have given

other life-forms a mission on other planets.Fundamentalist evangelist, Jerry Falwell, states quite categorically that the NASA

scientists will not find the concrete evidence they need to prove that life did exist onMars. "The Bible makes it clear that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God andMan", says Falwell.

However, NASAs research can only be 'celebrated' according to Rabbi James Ruden ofthe American Jewish Committee. He says that most Jews' interpretation of Genesis allowsfor the possibiliry of life on other planets. Rather than damage the structure of their faith,Ruden feels that if the findings became conclusive then it would only serve to re-affirmthe oower of God.

hen I was barely fifteen yearsold and living in Gibraltar, Iwitnessed something that I willremember with awe for the restof my life. I had developed anintense passion for astronomy,

and knew virtually every visible feature of the skyat night as we know it.

Planets, stars, nebulae, clusters and satelliteswere all readily identifiable to me, and it was thisfamiliariry with the pattern of the universe thatmade me gasp in astonishment one memorablenight. There in the western sky above me glowed ahuge star where, according to the charts, thereshouldn't have been anything at all. Its size rivalledthe blazing orb of Venus at its closest approach. Iwas baffled - what could it be? lfhen I finallybrought my telescope to bear on the spot, to myamazement I found that it formed a diffuse area ofcloud shining from a point deep in space.

THE I'IYSIIRIOUS ORBOver the next week, the cloud continued toexpand and disperse until after eight days noteven my powerful telescope was capable ofresolving it. However, I was still none the wiser asto what it could be. It certainly wasn't ameteorite, a weather balloon, or the planet Venus.Nor was it a comet or a satellite. The only likelyexplanation seemed to be a supernova, orexploding star, but here again the descriptiondidn't quite match the realiry of what I'dwitnessed over that week.

Yet if it wasn't described in my trusty astronomymanuals, what could it be? For weeks afterwards Iscrutinised the papers for news of the incident, but there wasn't even a mention. Eventually, Iforgot all about it until many years later. Thenone day I came across an article in the ForteanTin'tes that so perfectly described what I'd

Unexplained explosions in space, the theory of Planet X and vitrifiedremains here on Earth all lead Harry Hinde to conclude that life in

0rlober lg30

our solar system has not always been as peaceful as we thought.

Mysterious explosions deep od in space may be caused by alien races atwar with each other:

witnessed that it could have been taken from myvery own notes. Quoting an article from theHeraldT|ibune, it said that there had been at least80 unexplained explosions in deep space duringthe last decade.

This had baffled many of the leading scientistsand astronomers who were at a complete loss toexplain the phenomena. According to the article, the largest of these explosions had occurred180,000 light years away in the large MagellanicCloud outside our galaxy.

The article also related that 'Ray Klebesadel, aleading scientist at Los Alamos, said this event wasdefinitely not a super"nova'. According to him, theexplosion was more like a nuclear bomb blast. This was a view also echoed by nuclear physicistStanton T Friedmann, who declared, "temendousactivity of this sort could well be life out thereinvolved in a war". The article also quoted JamesOberg of Houston as saying "It is a legitimatetheory that star wars may be taking place."

$IELLRR RftIVI R6E[[01{RecentlS the continuing phenomena was dealtwith in a piece tn The Times which outlined thecontroversy it had sparked. Academics weresharply divided between those who insisted therewas no mystery to address and others who werefirm conVerts to the idea of a stellar Armageddonbeing fought out in the depths of the universe. Some felt the explosions to be no more thanigniting meteors in the Earth's upper atmosphere.Others were equally as adamant that the evidencepointed unquestionably to a point of origin manytrillions of miles distant.

Significantly prominent occultists andastrologers have always believed that a devastatingform of star wars once occurred much closer tohome, within the boundaries of our very own solarsystem. The basis of these views concern the factthat Mars, and to some extent the moon andVenus, show signs of once having been filled withrunning rivers and considerably more of anatmosphere than they have at present, Theseconditions would certainly make the existence ofintelligent life possible, but inter-planetary wars inthe solar system? Could it really have happened?

'lfhat we can say is that rather than rising up on

the planetary scale of evolution, Mars and themoon are actually decaying. They once held areasonable atmosphere with running rivers butnow look sparse, empty and barren. ln fact, acloser look at the Martian surface shows that atsome stage in its history it was subjected to anenormous collision which literally tore out acanyon over 2,500 miles long. Photographs fromthe Viking landers showed quite plainly that thesurface of the planet is absolutely strewn withsmall chunks of rock that resemble the debrisfrom a tremendous explosion. But where couldsuch an explosion have come from? The solarsystem now looks so sedately dormant that it'shard to imagine such violence in our desertedplanetary neighbourhooc.

PLfl l |ET )(Still these things have been known to happen. Ithas b'een theorised that a planet between Marsand Jupiter literally exploded into fragments tocreate what we now know as the asteroid belt.Planet X as it became known has attracted muchattention. Its existence was even theorised by themathematician Johann Bode. According to thetheory known as Bode's Law, (which is actuallythe work of Johann Titius) a definite andrepeatable ratio of the distances of the planets tothe sun does exist. Six planets were then known, but the distance of all the rest of the planets werecorrectly deduced using Bode's Law. This is quiteremarkable since scientists have now deduced thatthis law has no mathematical certainty whatsoeverof being correct.

'Ifhat is of great interest to us is that according

to Bode's Law there should be another planetbetween the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, exactlywhere the asteroid belt now lies. Occultists believethis was once the location of a sizeable planet thatwas literally blown apart by an incredible weapon

of destruction, or collision with another planetarybody. The former would require a weaponconsiderably more potent than anything we knowof today, since even the latest nuclear weapons areincapable of destroying the structural existence ofthe world itself.

I | |E RETIOIO|JS[0t ' t l l | t ITt0l ' |Mythology is habitually a clue to events of longago, and here you will find frequent mention ofcelestial wars. Even the Bible makes at least onerefetence to a war in the skies. In a nutsheil, occultists believe that the planets Venus. Mars and

the moon were once inhabited by advancedsocieties who fought out a planetary war on ascale outlined in mythology as the clash betweenthe Olympians and the Titans. The result was asolar system in chaos, the destruction of a planet, and the orbital change of Venus to a positionconsiderably closer to the sun. In the break-up,vast debris such as that seen on Mars would havebeen thrown out in all directions. The Martianand Lunar atmospheres, together with their riversand whatever life existed would quite literaliyhave been catapulted into space, rendering theplanets forever uninhabitable.

On Earth, the evidence of nuclear wars deep inantiquity is even more convincing. Here, we notonly have the physical scars but the graphicallywritten accounts of some of the most ancient tertson Earth. The Mahabharata, an ancient Indianepic at least five thousand years old, speaks offlying machines called Vimanas which were usedto launch a powerful weapon of destruction, described as 'a single projectile charged with allthe power of the universe'.

Here is a reference concerning the destructionunleashed by rwo warring sets of adversaries, 'TheEarth shook, scorched by the terrible heat of thisweapon. Elephants burst into flames and ran toand fro rn a frenzy, seeking protection fromterror. Over a vast area, other animals crumpledto the ground and died. The waters boiled, andthe creatures residing therein also died. From allpoints of the compass the arrows of the flamerained continuousiy'.

Later. we find. An incandescent column ofsmoke and fire, as brilliant as ten thousand sunsrose in all its splendour. It was the unknownweapon, the iron thunderbolt...a giganticmessenger of death'. The effect of this weapon

was horrific, 'The corpses were so burnt that they

were no longer recognisable, Hair and nails fell

out. Pottery broke without cause. Birds, disturbed, circled in the air and were turned white.Foodstuffs were poisoned.'

To any other generation verses of this nature

would surely have seemed no more than poetic

hyperbole. They had after all nothing to comparethem with. Unfortunately, we know only too well

the awesome capability of nuclear weapons, and it

would take someone of particularly low

imagination to fail to see the similarity berweenthese accounts and wlat we now know as anuclear holocaust.

Etl I IE] l IE 01' l Ef lRTl|Nor is the Mahabharata the only ancient text to

describe such things. Similar accounts of great

destruction are also found in the Tibetan Stanzasof Dzyan, the beliefs of the Hopi Indians, andeven in the Bible. The destruction of Sodom and

Gomorrah is widely thought of in these terms, particularly since their location is now occupied by

the mysterious Dead Sea hollow, one of the most

inhospitable places on earth.Of course, written evidence is one thing, but is

there any physical evidence of these earlyconflicts? Here, we enter into the realms ofanother baffling enigma, the vitrified remains of

fortresses, ziggurats (ancient stepped temples), and

towers that have been subjected to anunaccountably sharp blast of heat. In his book

Secrets of the Lost Races, writer Rene Noorbergentalks of charred ruins found between the River

Ganges in India and the mountains of Rajamahal.'The walls have been glazed, corroded, and split

by tremendous heat. Within several of thebuildings that remain standing even the surfaces ofthe stone furniture have been vitrified: melted andthen crystallised.

'No natural burning flame or volcanic eruptioncould have produced heat intense enough to causethis phenomenon. Only the heat released throughatomic energy could have done this damage.'Apparently in this same region, a human body wasdiscovered with a radioactivity 'which was fiftytimes above the normal level'. This enigma ofvitrified ruins is to be found all across the world, especial ly in North America, where the strangeremains of vitrified rocks and dwelling places defyany logical explanation.

In the Brazilian ruins of Sete Ciddaes, authorNoorbergen writes of 'ruins melted by apocalypticenergies'. Elsewhere, in Mesopotamia, sizeableziggurats have been found melted to their base in avitrified mass. In the Arabian desert, blackenedstones litter the sands over a wide area; showingsigns of having been subjected to intense radiation.

In Israel, the location of the Dead Sea and its

mysterious connection with Sodom and Gomorrahbears evidence of an amaztng focus of heat that is

thought to have gouged out the entire area in a

massive explosion. Vitrified rock created underintense pressure is a frequent discovery, and in'1952, archaeologists discovered a vitrified area ofsand that stretched out over hundreds of squarefeet. Apparently, deposits like this are similar tothose left behind at the V/hite Sands atomictesting site in America.

RI{[ IEI I I 1{ |JILEf lRhl ERP0l' l S'Wherever we look in the world, the bafflingenigma of vitrified ruins challenges our intellect. From Peru, Scotland and Scandinavia to theplateaux of China and India, this indelibleevidence attests to some undeniably violent act,Not everyone will be convinced of a nuclearanswer, but as we have seen, the evidence isextremely compelling. Intriguingly, a number ofestablished scientists also find themselves seducedby the evidence.

In 1909 when academics were first beginning tograsp the awesome power of the atom, physicistFrederick Soddy wrote inhis Interpretation ofRadium.'I believe that there have beencivilisations in the past that were familiar withatomic energy, and that by misusing it they weretotally destroyed'. Remarkably RobertOppenheimer, the chief of the Manhattan Projectthat developed the first atomic device (that weknow of) watched the test explosion rise up in avast mushroom cloud and felt moved to quotefrom ancient Sanskrit, 'I am become death, thedestroyer of worlds'.

Perhaps he more than anyone else realised thatat that very moment man became reacquaintedwith a piece of his history that had once cost himso dear. The weapon of a 'million suns' was againwithin his oossession.

The amount of roclry debils on thesurface of Mars sugests to some thata massive explosion took place inancient times.

existence ofUFOs asintelligent

the next logical question is where do theycome from? Where in the vast regions of thisuniverse could such intelligence possibly originate? Are we for instance looking at a single point oforigin, or are there literally thousands of inhabitedworlds capable of sending out space visitors to thist iny planet of ours?

The possibilities are truly staggering. In facr, whenever we turn our attention to the universe, our l imited Earth bound perception is in urgenrneed of a sudden update to take in the vastness ofwhat lies around us. By day, this magnitude ofteneludes us, but on any clear and frosty night, awayfrom street lights and neons, the astral sky is aforceful reminder of our own insignificance.

Thousands upon thousands of stars confirm theenormity of creation. Strain your eyes and lookdeeper into space and yet more stars becomevisible. !7ith the aid of a telescope, this numbermultiplies still further, until at the limits of themost powerful optical device there are still

Spiral shaped galaxies, nomore than fuzzy pinpricks in the

our solar system, the closest star, ProximaCentauri, is 4.34 light years away. This might

not sound like much when expressed in theseterms, but i t works out as 40,570,700,000,000kilometres. By comparison, the most distantgalaxies are many millions of light years distant.

Faced with this kind of enormity, the quest forintelligent life in the universe makes the oldneedle in a haystack seem quite good odds. So, ifwe are being visited by intelligent aliens, how canwe determine where they come from?

$lRl |Js, | |0 l ' lE 0F I | { t 00[5Early societies and civilisations who believed theyhad been educated by beings from other worldsbelieved their benefactors had arrived from aplanet close to the bright star Sirius. In fact, throughout the ancient world, Sirius acquired anincredibly devout following of belief and worship. It was seen as the abode of the gods, and several

0ctotrsr l$SI

passageways of the Great Pyramid at Giza are saidto have aligned with Sirius on important dates in

the ancient Egyptian calendar.Three great constellations of the autumn and

winter sky - Canis Major, Orion and Thurus -

together with the famous Pleiades star cluster, are

all neighbours in a splendid outline of stars that isperhaps the most beautiful cluster in the sky. Many

believe we have been visited by beings from thePleiadean star cluster which has also beenworshipped since ancient t imes.

This belief has persisted to the present daythough science has cagt doubt on the likelihood of

the Pleiades cluster hosting any planet bearingstars. The reason for this doubt is that the Pleiadesare a relatively recent development, no more thansixty million years old, which astronomers believeis far too short a time for life bearing planets tohave developed. Even so, contactees of UFOencounters and prominent psychics have alwaysinsisted on a Pleiadean connection. They answerthe scientific objections by saying that life on thisplanet developed at the earliest possible momentand could likewise have done so on planets closeto the Pleiades. '

In his book The Flying Saucerers, author ArthurShuttlewood draws attention to a possible

connection between Arthurian legend and theconstellation of the Qreat Bear, also known asUrsa Major. Shuttlewood points out that Arth-ur,

or Arth-wr in Velsh means Great Bear. KingArthur was always known and respected for hisincredible size, leaving the author to surmise, 'If

man on Earth was indeed seeded by giants fromouter space, they hailed from the Great Bearconstellation. Our earliest Celtic people wouldhave greeted them as coming from Arth-wr',

EfiYPTIRl{ STRR IOORSRemarkably, the ancient Egyptian word for staralso means door. In other words, they perceivedstars as the opening, or the door to something -but what? 'Was it the door to an alien civilisation, the home of the gods or a quick route to adifferent dimension? Even before the film Stargate,I had been working on a developing theory thatthe Egyptians considered stars to be the gateway toanother dimension. Chambers and passageways ofprominent pyramids were all aligned to theprincipal stars, and in the book The OrionMystery, the authors outline how the Egyptianshad laid out adjacent pyramids in the shape of theconstellation of Orion. I began to believe that thisdiligence transcended mere imagery - that here, asin everything they tackled, the Egyptians had leftus a massive encoded puzzle that was itself thegateway to a dimension of completely newknowledge and wisdom.

As a result, I began to develop an intensefascination with Egyptian hieroglyphs, which Isoon found was an ideal language for hiding adouble or even triple meaning within innocent

looking text. Egyptian hieroglyphs consist ofalphabetic and pictorial characters which areeasily interchangeable, thus shifting their meaning.'When I came to study the word for Sirius, I foundit was composed of symbols that when expandedto their entire range of meanings came out as'teach to make ready the Star Door'. I felt reallyelated. This seemed like a clue to an incrediblemystery, and certainly established the Egyptianbelief that stars were the entry point to anotherdimension. Perhaps one day these strands ofknowledge will lead to an incredible discoverythat will show us just how easy it is to travel toeven the most distant of planetary systems.

$ncient wisdom always believed in theeilstence of visitors from the Sirius star system. These visitors were thought of as educators andbringers of knowledge. Perhaps the Egyptianexpansion of the name Sirius is to teach us, andready us for this entry to the star gate and ourunion with whatever may lie beyond it.

$i l t1{ [E $EffRIHE$T1|E $l t IE$In its own way, the conventional science of todayhas expended a great deal of effort and money inattempting to find its own star gate and evidenceof alien existence. For thirty years or more therehave been occasional endeavours to scan theheavens for traces of intelligent signals that mayhave been beamed at our planet from alienworlds. This NASA funded operation, known asSETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) firststarted with 'Project Ozma', the brainchild ofAmerican astronomer Frank Drake.

This limited search, which lasted for no longerthan 150 hours, was directed at a number of starsin the Pleiades, and proved entirely fruitless. However, Drake remained convinced that alienlife existed and condensed the possibilities into amathematical equation which he believed showed

The remains of exploded stars, like thisnebula, are the source of hearyelements essential to life.

the overwhelming likelihood of intelligent life onfar distant planets.

According to his estimates, at least ten thousandadvanced extraterrestrial civilisations must existwithin our galaxy alone, and he believes that bythe year 2000 we shall have received the firstverified and confirmed signal of alien origin.Howeveg Drake's equation could not tell himwhere to look. The logical answer was to monitorwhat is known in astronomical circles as thehydrogen 2L hne. This line is also termed thecelestial 'watering hole', since it is the most likelyarea for intelliger.rt life to be found.

Since Project Ozma in 1,960, over sixty separatesearches of the hydrogen 21 line have failed togather a single piece of conclusive evidence that

could conceivabiy be attributed to an intelligentsignal of alien origin. On some occasions, likelycandidates were heard and monitored, but onlyfor short periods of time. In the end, these provedimpossible to verify.

I ] |E ' [ ' l 0hl $ l0 l l f lL 'Undoubtedly, the most astonishing incident wasthe discovery of what iater became known as the''Wow signal'. This was an intermittent signalrather like Morse code received by the 'Big Ear'telescope at Ohio State University RadioObservatory in the USA. In the end, this provedto be yet another transitory phenomenon that wenever heard again. However, in his book IsAnyone Out There, Frank Drake relates that, 'Theultimate hallmark of intelligence was the way thesignal turned itself on - or off - while it was inthe teiescope's beam'. Apparently, it becameknown as the ''Wow signal' after the cry ofexclamation given by astronomy professor JerryEhman as he watched the signal's data make itscompletely unexpected appearance.

Early searches of the nearest star systems werelimited to certain bands and wavelengths. Thereare literally hundreds if not thousands of separatepossibilities and permutations, and monitoring atthis comprehensive level was until recently farbeyond our reach. Now, powerful computers haveextended the potential of research, so that thelatest project from NASA, the SETI MicrowaveObserving Project, can target over 15 millionseparate channels. The expectation is that by thestart of the new millennium, conclusive proof willexist of alien existence out there in space.

I1|E [ f lR] l SI IE0F I]|t ] ' t0011Ironically, dedicated Ufologists, psychics andoccultists all believe that aliens exist much closerto Earth. They believe that these alien visitors haveset up permanent bases on the moon and Mars, which they maintain as logistical facilities for

repair and refuelling, and also as convenientvantage points to monitor the Earth. This maysound laughable, but if we accept that UFOs exist, and are indeed visitors from other solar systems, then we also have to accept that occasionally theywill be in need of logistical support. Therefore theidea of setting up facilities on comparativelynearby planets sounds logical. One particularly suitablelocation would be the darkside of the moon. This ispermanently shielded fromthe Earth and radardetection, so these visitorscould virtually come and goas they pleased.

The existence of aliens onthe moon has even beenquoted as the reason whyAmerica and the for.merSoviet Union suddenlyappeared to lose all interestin lunar exploration. Up untilthe beginning of theSeventies, lunar missionswere conducted on a frequent basis, but then theemphasis switched to shuttle flights that remainwell within the Earth's orbit. The theorists suggestthat man was warned'away from the moon byaliens who were not prepared to share their space.

So are aliens really in charge of the moon?Numerous comments have been attributed toastronauts alleging alien sightings on the moon, and the outline of strange geometrical shapes, domes and protrusions in some lunar photographshave all heightened the issue. Then there arereports of strange flashes from the lunar surfacewhich date back literally hundreds of years.

In the book Flying Sawcers Haue Landed, authorsDesmond Leslie and George Adamski report atleast thirty unexplained sightings of a luminousglow emanating from the surface of the moon. The

The authorscomplained that no attempt had ever been madeto interpret these signals, which they believed wereof the utmost importance.

The famous Inca Ciry on Mars (the supposedoutline of an intelligent construction) was said tohave turned up on official photographs that werelater claimed to have been censored. Also wellknown is the notorious B block, which has nowbecome known as the face of Mars. Thisremarkable rock formation eerily resembles the

facial features of a humanoid, and is cited as evidence of anintelligent presence on theintriguing red planet.

RtL l l lTl|E l '|IIIi lHaving started out in thedepths of space, and thenmoved to the planets of ourown solar system, our searchfor UFO origins takes us backto our very own planet.Remarkably, there are thosewho suggest that UFOs mayactually be sophisticated

humans from the future, or in other words, timetravellers. They reason that mathematically, past, present and future are all very fluid and thatgiven the abiliry to achieve enormous speeds, time travel would certainlv be possible. The

travelling to ages past and present isdemonstrably simple.

Then, of course, there are others such as thepsychologist Jung who believe that UFOs are afigment of our minds, an externalised illusionbrought about by wishful thinking. In otherwords, we see these things because we want to seethem. As more and more people add more weightto these sightings, so the phenomenon gains incredibiliry. In other words, alien sightings are nomore than a mass delusion.

Whatever the truth, and whatever the origins ofthese strange 'chariots of the sky', UFOs havenow become an inseparable part of this planet'sheritage and will no doubt continue to be seen, discussed, and debated for as long as intelligentIife exists on this Earth. I also believe that sooneror later we shall come to know the whole truthregarding their origins and purpose, and themysterious affection they seem to have developedfor this tinv olanet of ours.

exico harbours the largest ciry inthe world and is currentlyundergoing an alluring mystery.'lfhat has already beenhappening in Mexico and whatis happening right now is one ofRg# is happening right now is one

the most spectacular and well documented UFOwaves of all time.

Eyewitness reports, radar confirmation andmost dazzling of all, video footage of the UFOshas been pooled by Arc Soundwaves andpresented on a video entitled Voyagers of the SixthSun. Over one hundred separate clips of the UFOshave been culminated into a monumentaltestimony. It is no wonder that Mexico isbecoming the Mecca of UFO lore. Before askingwhy the UFOs are here, let us examine some of

the most staggering evidence yet revealed tosupport their existence.

r r r r{c1fr !" f !n t i l r c lJEJf f i f , i l f f i t t i l f l r r u ' . . r8! !The UFOs initially.attracted the most attention fortheir interest in commercial air traffic, whichunfortunately became d very serious problem, aslives were put in potential danger fromuncomfortably close calls with these strangemetailic objects.

For instance, on July28th 1994, the following *

communication wasrecorded between thecontrol tower and a pi lot:

Pilot: This is Mexican180, what traffic do youhave on radar? I have anunidentified object on myright moving very fast.

Tower: There's nothingon radar.

Pilot: You have nothingon radar. lfhat do we do?

Tower: Maintain aititudeand heading.

Later on, Flight 129 wason its final approach to theairport in Mexico Citywhen a UFO almost causeda horrific disaster. The landing gear was beinglowered when seasoned pilot, Captain RaymundoCervantes Ruano heard a loud 'bane'. Here is therecorded response:

Pilot: What was that?Copilot: I don't know.Pilot: Check the lamp and the door. Tower, we

have an emergency!Tower: You've had a collision. It transpires that Flight I29 had collided with a

UFO. Captain Ruano was forced to initiate anemergency landing as a direct result. Hiscomments later were "I felt a very hard hit. Ididn't know what it was. Maintenance checked theplane and found the shock absorbers were torn

off. After I landed the aeroplane I contacted radarcontrol and they told me the moment I wasmaking my turn there were rwo UFOs! I crossedmy path with theirs and that is why I declared anemergency..."

Considering Fhght 1,29 had a crew and 1,09passengers on board, the scale of the potentialtragedy can only be wondered at. These close callswere not isolated incidents. in fact. far from it.On Thursday August 4th, 1994, Flight 479 wasforced to take evasive action when a UFOapproached them head on. Four days later, onAugust the 8th, Captain Fernando Mesquitareported a large silver metallic object coming outof the sky and passing dangerously close, travelling under the plane. One UFO even flewpiggyback on an airliner and was recorded onvideo camera and on radar.

These close encounters were said to occur at anaverage rate of two a week for quite some time, with some occurring twice in one day accordingto two flight engineers. Far from being a problemeasily 'swept under the carpet' and forgottenabout, these incidents of close contact arepotentially hazardous.

Apart from the obvious dangers of collision, theUFOs also interfere with digital computers on the

aircraft, thus giving falsealtitude and direction.Y/hen the instruments ofan aucraft are notworking correctly, theresults can be fatal, as hasbeen proven countlesstimes in the past.It is for this reason thatthe pilots and groundcrews in Mexicocontinue to bravely fileofficial reports of visualcontact with UFOs. Ifthey didn't pass on theseencounters to the mediaand the general public, how would a seriouscrash with a UFO beexplained if there is nooff icial recognit ion of the

phenomena? As reporter/Ufologist Jaime Maussanexplains, "Someone has to take responsibility. It is

affecting security."

Tr€fl ffiilffi[-Iffiffi[F[ffiffiilffi{:[ ffiffiVThe UFO's interest in air traffic was not limited tocommercial flights. they are part of the parade itself, they follow andbuzz the aircrafr at the show.

Just after 11am on Independence Day in t993,over 20 military helicopters flew in closeformation as part of the military display of might.A small metallic oblect then glided ahead of andjust under the helicopters, seemingly oblivious toany danger of collision, as they flew in formationthrough the sky and over the startled crowds. Onevery other Independence Day preceding last year, video footage and still photographs have revealedthese visitors seemingly watching curiously fromnearby, following military craft. Their purpose isunknown, but they have not to this date shownmalice or overtly obvious hostile intent.

$Pti lRL 0lJt$t$The UFO flap that ensued really set Mexico Cityalight with speculation. One TV programme calledFrenie al Pwblieo debated the UFO phenomena liveon broadcast. The host of the programme, Julian, presuming the UFOs were monitoring theairwaves, sent out an open invitation to thevisitors to reveal themselves to the city before theend of the show As the show came to a close andthe credits were about to roll, two UFOs (in theguise of strange materialising lights suspended inthe air) appeared nearby. The host latercommented, "It was a very strange moment, nobody could believe it. People had left theirhomes to look at the UFOs."

This interaction, if it is more than merecoincidence, really has to be the strangest andmost exciting aspect of the phenomena. Itindicates that they understand us, and can monitorus in a profound way.

Even more intriguing is a case of the UFOspossibly trying to help us. It revolved around anincident which attracted international attention, although the UFO's heavy involvement in theincident remained unreported by the media.

For three years UFO activity was particularly

heavy around one site. Air traffic control trackedseveral UFOs to and around the Popcatepteptlvolcano in Puebla. Mystified with the apparentheavy UFO activity in this area, an investigationensued and as a direct result, it was discoveredthat the volcano, which was thought to bedormant, was in fact showing signs of activity. InFebruary 1994 the volcano began to smoke.

In December 1994, the volcano ofPopcatepteptl in Puebla erupted violentlycovering Mexico's fourth largest ciry Puebla, inash. However, the authorities were by nowprepared, and a military assisted evacuation of thearea ensured and averted disaster, savingthousands of lives. However, it was the UFOswhich had originally guided investigators to rheregion just as it was becoming volatile.

UFOs generally seem to be very active aroundvolcanic areas, which Mexico has in abundance. In fact, 80o/o ol sightings in central Mexico havebeen reported within sight of a volcano. Three ofthe major UFO hot spots, as chosen by air-trafficcontrollers, were also in areas of volcanic activify.Perhaps it is no coincidence that Mexico City issurrounded by volcanoes.

'Whatever the link, the unknown craft, whetherby accident or design, helped bring attention to amajor disaster area and perhaps for this reason, the population of Puebla should be eternallygrateful to these unidentified flying objects.

It can be seen from these reports that the UFOsare curious about us, and they have bothendangered lives and helped to save them. Theirintentions are not entirely clear. but it seemslogical that they do have an agenda.

rival any Hollywood blockbuster, so it is baffling

that they are not given greater international

co\rerage. It is awe-inspiring enough to witness oneUFO, but to witness over 20 fly overhead at oncemust be enough to change anyone's perception ofIife. ln 1.994, entire armadas of metallic UFOs

dominated the Mexican skies. One very specialpiece of footage captured the process by which thearmadas were formed.

The film shows at first just one solitary object in

the sky. This object then divides like a replicating

cell, with each part becoming similar in size to thelast, and then divides repeatedly into more and

more objects. These eventually assemble in their

allotted place before continuing their iourneytogether in formation. This is fascinating yet

difficult to comprehend. The objects seem like they are solid, with

reflective metallic surfaces, and the capability to

hit other objects and create damage, as seen earlier

with the plane collision. However, this dividingprocess suggests the craft are not solid in the same

way as we perceive the meaning of the word, and

are possibly even alive. They often behave like

living entities themselves, as they appear to play

with each other in the sky and don't seem to behindered by inertia and propulsion problems.

If these objects have pilots, they wouid have to

be very robust to withstand the enormous G-forces

created by the craft as they often travel erratically, changing speed and direction as if on reflex.

Th{f, i l$i l iTffiINd[ff iOne purpose of the armada seems to be to escort adifferent type of UFO to the common silver orb or

disc. This object has been labelled 'the container'

as it seems to house eight smaller objects within it.It is a long trailing shape in the sky and has only

ever been filmed once, despite several eyewitness

accounts. Since the other tlvenry or so smaller

ships accompany this 'container', could it be a'mothership' of some kind?

Our concept of technology seems so far

removed from the concepts which are utilised forthese craft that definitions for the UFOs sometimesseem a futile exercise.

ff i#$$ tff iF;ff it${ #In an area near Thllupa, several UFOs landed infields, creating flattened impressions in the tallgrasses and crops. Experts in various fields ofresearch descended upon the landing sites only todiscover that what had landed had had a strangeeffect on the environment. It seemed thatovernight the pumpkin plants which had beenunder or near the ianding sites had mutated.Although still alive, the plants altered theirbiological composition and makeup every sixhours for the next few days.

No biologist could explain this behaviour, but itis speculated that this is a residual effect of theUFO contact. There was certainly no radiationdetected around the plants that were affected.Perhaps it was the same energy responsible fordisrupting aircraft technology which also affectedthese living plants in such dramatic ways. Theonly scientific guess was that an electromagneticpulse may he responsible.

be one of many things. If it gets closer and looksdistinctly un-aircraft shaped, then there's alwaysthe possibility that it's an experimental skyplane orsuch like. As the more experienced reader will knoq thisdescribes some of the amaztng aerobatics of thefamous UFO over Antwerp, Belgium in 1988,which was seen by 2,500 people and confirmed byradar. There are many other well documented

Close encounterwitnesses have often testified to electricalinterference and a'haze' around the UFO.distorting its appearance. Are we seeing the effectsof advanced technology, or advanced imagination?

It seems that whatever propeis these things isbeyond our comprehension. However, Einsteinwas working on the Unified Field Theory when hedied, a theory which would mathematically relateevbry known force in the universe to every other.Even when you learn that there are only four ofthese fundamental forces (electromagnetic, gravity, strong nuclear, weak nuclear), the work is stillincredibly complex and represenrs a 'Holy Grail'for theorists. A disquieting fact is that the most impressive

UFO witnesses, with no prior knowledge ofphysics, aeronautics and the like, have all reported

similar phenomena which, according to someobservers, are the normal and predicted effects ofa working Unified Field Theory. Let's examinesome of these and compare them to the work weaiready know.

" l l i l [ [ , ' l | . |RI?"'When something makes a right angled turn, it isn'treal ly a turn at al l . Rather, i t is an instant cessationof movement in one direction followed by animmediate initiation of movement in anotherdirection. Tly to imagine how a flying object

moving at 2,000mph can accomplish such a feat. Not only does it have to 'slam on the brakes' withnothing substantial to brake against, but it thenhas to somehow accelerate faster than a rifle bulletfrom complete rest back to its original speed.

As if that wasn't difficult enough (in terms ofthe huge energy required), it also has to withstandthe effects of this explosive deceleration andacceleration. An F-16 can go from 2,000mph tostop in the space of a few metres, but it involvescontact with the ground and tends to hamper anyfurther manoeuvring.

For a brief moment, let us assume thatunknown craft with advanced technology arecapable of withstanding such forces. But whatabout the occupants? A Jiving organism iscomparatively fragile - in fact, some UFOs haveshown changes in speed that would turn organicmatter in pAt6. This could mean that all such craftare robotic or remote controlled, but evidence tothe contrary is widespread. It would seem thatsomeone - or something - has discovered a wayof travelling without all the problems of actuallymoving. So, is it possible to warp space?

Having said that, if a clean source of virtuallyinfinite power were to be discovered by somemaverick scientist or t!vo, would it be announcedto the general public?

There are still many well qualified people whoclaim that cold fusion and other free-energyprocesses work very wel1, but their ideas are beingconsciously suppressed because four-fifths of theworld's economy is based around the buying andselling of energy. (spherical, disc or cigar-shaped) are definitely notaerodynamic in the conventional sense, but theyare shapes that field-generating craft wouldnaturally conform to. This is not a theory, it'sestablished science. In other words, we are alreadymaking disc-shaped 'anti-gravity' devices. But dothey work?

It has long been said that according to the lawsof physics, a bumble bee shouldn't be able to fly, although more recently the complicatedaerodynamics of how its tiny wings work hassupposedly been figured out. Another popularmyth is that you can't make a sealed unitgenerate lift. You can. One way is by using asimple array of gyroscopic devices that ring thecraft (see below diagram). The pioneering anti-gravity research of Nikola Tesla, John Searle,Bruce DePalma and others is still being used andimproved, as the photograph above shows. Tom'Watson of Geelong, Australia made thisprototype (basically a model UFO) and itworked. It has no jets, no propellers and nowings, yet it produced lift.

You would have thought that the military wouldhave jumped on ideas like this. 'Well, you'd beright; Russian and American engineers tried tomake their own 'flying saucers' over 40 years agoand are still apparently working on prototypes inplaces like Area 51 and S-4, Nevada.

Since they started work on these projectsshortly after the Roswell incident tn t947, itmakes you wonder where they got the idea fordisc-shaped craft from...

Ultimately though, most engineers workingwith gravity-defying devices are limited by themassive amounts of energy consumption. Noknown form of generating power is suitable, sothat brings us full circle - if there are indeedother, unlimited sources of energy whichhumaniry is poised to understand and make useof, then the development of our own flyingsaucers will swiftly follow. Maybe someone 'out

there' is well aware of that. Thanks to Nexus magazine for their help with

t is virtually impossible tospeculate just how many peoplearound the world have reportedseeing a UFO that was of atriangular or wedge shape. Thebest estimate puts the figure

somewhere in the range of 10,000 sightings, but thereal figure is probably much higher. According tonews recently released by NASA and the UnitedStates Air Force, who have been working jointly on atop secret project, there may well be an explanationfor this triangular intruder of the airways. This is anew prototype plane called the'Waverider.

IR| |El I FOR f l RIIENASA and the USAF have announced that theyhave been jointly working on developing anaftcraft capable of travelling at twice the speed ofConcorde. This prototype has just been publiclyunveiled, but speculation is rife, especially whenyou consider the remarkably revolutionary designof the 'Waverider.

It is now being mooted that a full scale versionof the 'Waverider may have been developed yearsago. This version could have conducted test flightsworld-wide, provoking the public to mistakenlyreport.'Waverider sightings as glimpses of UFOs.After all, the classic triangular shape of the'Waverider does suggest that it could be responsiblefor some sightings.

The Waverider's official name is the LoFlyte(Low Observable Flight Test Experiment), and itis believed that it could reach speeds of up to3,000 miles per hour. The aircraft obtained itsnickname due to its ability to surf on a stream ofair, as opposed to a conventional aircraft whichsimply ploughs straight through the air. Thissurfing effect is achieved mainly due to the

\Taverider's innovative triangular design, whichtraps a cushion of air below the craft. The'Waverider is so complicated that a softwareprogram has been developed by AccurateAutomation Corporation that will teach theaircraft to fly itself, after basic instruction from apilot. NASA have also commented that the'Waverider's neural network is more akin to thehuman brain than a computer.

IO|JLI T| |E t ' i lRl |ERII IRIE THE BEtGIf II UFO?It is now believed that the 'Waverider wasresponsible for a huge wave of sightings inBelgium in December 1989, when over 13,000witnesses reported a strange triangular-shapedobject in the skies. These sightings werecorroborated by military pilots and pilots ofcommercial aircraft, who either came into closecontact with the obiect, or tracked it on radar. Itwould appear, at least from a governmentalstandpoint, that the Vaverider may make a veryconvenient solution to the mass sightings, but ifyou examine the evidence, then glaringdiscrepancies appear.

The Belgian UFO was captured on camera inwhat is now a legen{ary picture, and to be honestit does not resemble the \(averider, It wouldn'tmake sense for the American, or any other militaryfor that fact, to make such a display of publicunilateralism if they wished the project to remainsecret. In short, it is impossible to make anargument for the Belgium UFO flap beingattributed to the Vaverider.

Another UFO case currently getting the'Waverider treatment is the Manchester near missincident of last year. On this occasion, a BritishAirways Boeing 737 flying from Milan toManchester was involved in a near fatal collisionwith a triangular-shaped object. The pilots MarkStuart and Roger'Wills both filed 'air near miss'reports as a result of their experience. Theyclaimed that the object had passed within just feetof their atrcrak.

Radar operators were unable to lock on to thesecond object, but other eyewitnesses on theground also saw the object in relation to theBoeing, and ther'efore confirmed what the pilotshad reported. The pilots also drew sketches of theobject, which do resemble the Waverider withstartling accuracy. But could the X(averider beresponsible? I think the answer must be no for anumber of reasons.

The first is that the 'Waverider is supposedly anAmerican atcraft. and as such it would berequired to carty a radar beacon which wouldenable air traffic controllers to identify it. This is aprerequisite of carrying out manoeuvres in Britishairspace. The second problem with the Vbveriderbeing used as an excuse for the Boeing sighting isthat it is virtually unthinkable that an American

stealth aircraft would fly so close to a commercialatcraft, endangering both the lives of the'Waverider's pilots and the lives of the generalpublic travelling on the passenger aircraft.

RLIEII IEI1| ] IOLOOYIt has been suggested on more than one occasionthat the American government has entered anagreement with extraterrestrial life-forms, in thatthey guarantee to allow human beings to be usedas guinea pigs for experimentation in return fordetails of the aliens' advanced technology. BobLazar claims to have worked at Area 51 on areverse technology project, where it was his job toestablish the functioning capabilities of recoveredcrashed UFOs, supposedly housed at Area 51.

If we are to believe everything we are spoonfedby various sources, then it may make perfectlylogical sense for the Americans to have developedan aircraft that is not entirely dissimilar to thetriangular-shaped UFO so often reported bycivilians. In fact, if the Americans were given theknowledge by aliens, then it stands to reason thatthe two atrcraft would almost certainly beidentical. This bizarre explanation would accountfor the many sightings of possible alien craftsinvading our skies, evading radar and travelling atinsurmountable speeds.

'We are now entering an age of advancedtechnological achievement. The design andcapabilities of terrestrial aircraft is starting toreflect this new dawn, but it is essential forUfology to keep its feet firmly on the ground.Otherwise we will soon find that governmentswill be passing off many UFO sightings as newtechnology and before we know it the impetusthat Ufology has worked so hard to achieve willbegin to wane.

The now infamous'Bel$an Uf0' displaysa shap that is rema*ably similar tothat of the loFlyte ahcraft.
