ALGEBRA 2H
SUMMER ASSIGNMENT Attached to this page is the summer assignment for students who will be taking Honors Algebra 2 next school year. You must print out the first two pages of the assignment, complete all 26 problems showing all work and bring the completed pages to class on the 1st day of school. (This will be worth 40 points.) There are additional worksheets attached which have definitions, examples and extra practice problems on the skills you need to complete the assignment. You may do as many (or as little) of these extra practice problems as necessary. Note: I do not expect you to do every problem of these extra worksheets – just make sure you understand the material. The answers to these problems are on the very last page so you can check your work. The Algebra 1 skills you are reviewing include:
Number Properties
Simplifying Numerical Expressions
Evaluating Algebraic Expressions
Order of Operations
Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Positive and Negative Numbers
Absolute Value
Solving Equations
Finding Coordinates on a number line
Comparing (<,>,=) Numerical Expressions When completing pages 1 and 2 of the assignment, please follow these directions:
Do the work independently. You may refer to the extra worksheets, online resources, or old texts or notes you may have from Algebra 1, but do not ask a friend for help on the first two pages.
Use pencil.
Show all work for #13-26 and write the final answer on the line provided. For #1-12 just write the correct property underneath each problem.
Do not use a calculator. We will be having a quiz on this material on Thursday, August 30, 2018 and you will not be able to use a calculator on that so practice without a calculator this summer. (Do not worry – calculators will be allowed after we finish chapter 1.)
If you have any questions on the assignment – you may contact me by email. ([email protected]) I will be checking my email twice a week all summer so I will get back to you as soon as possible.
I look forward to meeting you in August. Have a great summer!
