Chapter 11 Exercise 1

1. Open AutoCAD 2010 with a double-clickon its shortcut icon in the Windowsdesktop.

2. Open the template acadiso.dwt.

3. Construct each of the five drawings shownbelow on separate acadiso.dwttemplates, saving them as Layoutdrawings to the file names Fig 01.dwgto Fig05.dwg in a folder Piston andRod.

4. Left-click the Sheet Set icon in the View/Palettes panel. TheSheet Set Manager palette comes to screen.

5. Click New Sheet Set... in the popup menu from the Open...field.6. The Create Sheet Set - Begin dialog appears. Click the radio

button labelled Existing drawings, followed by a click on theNect Button.

7. In the Name of new sheet set field enter Piston & Rod and inthe Description (optional) field enter suitable details about thesheet set. Then in the Store sheet set data file (*.dst) here fieldenter the name of the folder in which the sheet set will be saved.Then left-click the Next button.

7. The Create Sheet Set - Choose Layouts dialog appears - becausethe drawings have been saved to the folder Piston & Rod left-click the Browse ... button and locate that folder. A list of thelayouts files in that folder appears. Note the additional filefig06.dwg. More about this drawing later - see step11.

8. If satisfied with the list of layout drawings left-click the Nextbutton. The Create Sheet Set - Confirm dialog appears listingdetails of the sheet set. If the details are correct, left-click theFinish button and the sheet set will be saved as Piston & Rod.dstin the folder Piston and Rod.

9. To check the contents of the sheet set left-click on Open SheetSet ... in the File drop-down menu..

10. The Piston & Rod sheet set palette appears. Double-click theicon to the left of 1 - Fig01 - Layout and the drawing Fig01.dwgappears. Check each drawing in turn with a double-click on theicon to the left of each of the drawing file names and each drawingappears in turn.

11. Double-click the icon for Fig06 - Layout and a colour-shaded pictorial drawing of the exploded piston androd appears on screen. For an explanation of shaded 3D models, see Chapter 16.

12. In the Piston & Rod sheet set palette left-click the Publish icon.13. After allowing time for the Autodesk DWF to be

completed, the icon flashing in the atatus bar stopsflashing.

14. Right-click the icon and in the right-click menu whichappears left-click View Plotted File ...

Additional exercises1. The three drawings show details of a

honing device in which two clamps forholding the tool being honed aretightened with a double-ended screw on whicha roller is held in position with two splitwashers. Two rods ensure the two clamps movesmoothly towards each other to clamp the toolbeing honed when the device is in use.

Construct separate orthographic dimensionedprojections of the parts of the device, save eachdrawing in Layout format and construct a sheetset from the resulting set of drawings.
