➢ Back to the Barter System, Anyone? The Governing Council will consider and (Harry hopes) approve the school’s annual budget at its meeting this Thursday evening. Public input is most welcome at this meeting, as are any questions you may have about the budget and the budgeting process. In brief, we’ll have $2.1 million in new operational funds, $240,000 in our operating reserve, $377,000 in capital project funds, about $80,000 in federal funds, and $5,600 in instructional materials funding to budget. This is how the Operational funding gets spent:

Run, Forrest, Run!

The 48th annual Fort Bayard Run is happening on Saturday, May 25. This local institution is something that is near and dear to the heart of Aldo because in 2015 it became a benefit for the Ella, Michael, Ella Scholarship Fund. We could use some help at the registration table and marshalling the course, or sign up to run the thing. Contact Jim McIntosh (I know, the guy is busier than a long tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs!) at [email protected] or call the school 538-2547 and leave him a message if you are up for a little fun on a Saturday morning.

Garden Fundraiser

The school’s Garden Crew has grown 400+ veggie starts as a fundraiser for the school and YCC. They will also be present at the Give Grandly/Give Local Event on Saturday, May 11 as a vendor at the Farmers’ Market off Bullard, between 7th and 8th Street from 8:30am to 2:30pm. The Garden Crew invites all staff and parents to donate for a veggie start to plant in your own garden. Please contact Guy <[email protected]> or Catalina <[email protected]> if you would like to schedule a time to pick from the starts and they will put you in touch with one of the Garden Crew members.

Moving up the Aldo way In a top-secret ceremony, the seniors passed the Aldo leadership torch to the juniors. We don’t have a lot of information about this hush-hush transition ritual, but we do know that it took place at Jim’s homestead, there was a bonfire and hot dogs. We are not sure what is up with the coat, but hopefully it is to guard the rising seniors against the dreaded senioritis.

Tiny Dioramas The pictures of tiny people in this week’s Update are miniature dioramas by Tanaka Tatsuya, a Japanese

artist. He has created a playful tiny diorama every day for 8 years out of food and other everyday items and put them into an online calendar. If you would like to

look at his miniature calendar you can click here.
