Alberta Secure Access Service
Overview
The Alberta Secure Access Service (ASAS) provides Identity and Access Management services
for Government of Alberta on-line services. ASAS can be divided into two basic concepts –
Registration and Enrollment – both of which are discussed in further detail below.
Registration
Registration is the process of setting up an account to access Government of Alberta on-line
services. Your ASAS account functions in much the same way as an account you use for on-line
banking or perhaps to access your organizations network.
During the registration process you must provide information about yourself, who you work for
and some basic information for use when accessing the ASAS self-provisioning services such as
retrieving a forgotten password or resetting your password.
Once the appropriate information has been entered and validated, ASAS will assign you a unique
username based on the first letter of your first name, your surname and a random 3-digit number.
For example, John Doe would be assigned a User Id like j.doe274. You will use this User Id
along with your password to log on and access on-line services..
Enrollment
Once you have registered you need to enroll with the available on-line services. This is the point
in the process where you identify yourself to the Ministry whose services you are wishing to
access and connect your electronic identity (i.e.; your account) with your physical identity
established when you first requested access with the Ministries on-line services.
The Enrollment process for Service Alberta requires that you provide facts to establish your
identity. The two key facts are your Service Alberta Id and Personal Identification Number
(PIN). Your Service Alberta Id should have been given to you prior to the enrollment process.
Your PIN, which is only used for during enrollment and then discarded, is obtained during the
course of the enrollment process described later in the document. These two credentials are only
know by yourself and Service Alberta and thus establish your identify with the Ministry.

Document Format
This document has been divided into three basic sections – Registering with ASAS, Enrolling in
a service and Retrieving a lost or forgotten password. Following the first two sections step-by-
step will give you access to Service Alberta On-line Services and in particular, Employment and
Immigration Mobius.
If at any time you have forgotten your ASAS password simply follow the steps outlined in
section 3 to retrieve/reset your password. Help desk support is also available at anytime should
you require it by clicking on the ASAS button.

Registering with ASAS
1. Open your browser and enter the following URL into the Address line;
https://goa.portal.gov.ab.ca/goaexternalsecure
2. You will see the following Welcome screen.

6. You will be directed to the following Self-Registration - Personal Information screen.
Enter as appropriate.

9. Enter the appropriate information and click .
10. The following Self-Registration - Registration Complete! screen is displayed.
Your registration is now complete!
Print a copy of this page and store it in a secure place for future reference.
You may click and proceed to step 5 in the Enrollment process. If you do not
wish to enroll at this time close your browser window or click .

Enrolling in a Service
1. If you clicked on at the end of the Registration process proceed to step 5.
2. Otherwise open your browser and enter the following URL into the Address line;
https://goa.portal.gov.ab.ca/goaexternalsecure
3. You will see the following Alberta Secure Access Service - Welcome screen.
3. Enter your User ID and Password

5. You will be directed to the following Self-Enrolment – Select Ministry Service screen.
6. Check “Mobius”

8. You will be directed to the following Self-Enrolment - Collection Notice screen

10. You will be directed to the following Self-Enrolment screen.
11. All five fields must be entered for a successful enrolment. The first three fields – First
(given) name, Surname and date of birth – are pre-populated based on the values you
provided to ASAS during your registration. The values in all five fields must match the
information the Ministry has on file for a successful enrolment. If the first (given) name,
Surname and Date of birth shown on the screen do not match what the Ministry has, you may

change the values on the above screen. The new values you provide will not replace the
values you entered in ASAS during your registration. They will however be forwarded to the
Ministry along with your Service Alberta Id and PIN.
At this point, you should have been given your Service Alberta Id. You need to acquire your
PIN. To do so, click on the “If you don’t have a Service Alberta Id and/or PIN click here”
link.
12. A new browser window will be displayed over top of the screen shown in Step 10 and you
will be directed to the following On-line Services – Enrollment Request screen.
13. Enter your Service Alberta Id and birth date

15. The following screen will be displayed:
16. An e-mail will be sent to you with your Personal Identification Number (PIN). The email will
contain a link where you can acquire your PIN.

Note: The e-mail address the PIN is sent to is the same e-mail address you provided to the
Ministry when you requested access to Mobius.

17. Click on the link contained within the email and the following screen will be displayed.
Note: If you closed your browser window from step 10 (Self-Enrolment) you can click on
the “Click here” link shown above and repeat steps 1 thru 10.
Note: If you closed the ASAS application use the below link and your new Id and password.

20. You will be directed to the following Self-Enrolment – Enrolment Complete screen.

23. Click on the link associated with the application you have been granted access to. The home
page will be displayed in a new browser window.

ASAS Self-provisioning Services
ASAS offers self-provision services which allow you to change your password and update the
information you provided during the registration process.
1. Enter the following URL into the Address line in your browser;
https://extern.secureaccess.gov.ab.ca/apps/protected/modification/
2. The following screen will be displayed;

7. Select the appropriate option from the list and click .
If you selected “Update my personal information” proceed to step 8.
If you selected “Update my security information” proceed to step 9.
If you selected “Apply to enroll in a service or modify an existing enrolment” proceed to step
10.
8. If you selected the Update my personal information option you will be directed to the
following Self-Modification – Update Personal Information screen.

a. Update your information accordingly and click . Your changes will be saved
and the following screen will be displayed.

b. Click . You will be returned to the Self-Modification screen at step 6.
9. If you selected the Update my security information option you will be directed to the
following Self-Modification – Update Security Information screen.

a. Update your information accordingly and click . Your changes will be saved
and the following screen will be displayed.

b. Click . You will be returned to the Self-Modification screen at step 6.
10. If you selected the Apply to enroll in a service or modify an existing enrolment option
you will be directed to the following Self-Modification – Select Ministry Service screen.

Retrieving a Forgotten Password
The following process has been established for any requests for password resets.
1. Open your browser and enter the following URL into the Address line;
https://goa.portal.gov.ab.ca/goaexternalsecure
2. You will see the following Alberta Secure Access Service - Welcome screen.
3. In the “Login /Modify your Account” section, click on “Forgot Password?” link.
4. You will be directed to the following Challenge Response screen.

5. Enter the appropriate information into each of the fields. If you make a mistake, the screen
will be refreshed and appropriate error messages will be displayed as shown below.

6. Correct any errors and click .
7. The following Challenge Response screen will be displayed.

8. Enter in your new password in the Password field. The new password cannot be the same as
your old password.
9. Re-enter your new password into the Confirm Password field. The Confirm Password must
match the Password.
10. Click
