• CANASA’s “Intrusion Alarm Bylaw” governing alarms responded to by police agencies • Outlines need for verification for alarms

before initiating an Alarm Dispatch• Alarm companies are responsible for

verifying alarms, and communicating available information to police • Installation company will be fined up to

$300* for dispatches to false alarms, and response may be suspended pending a reinstatement fee

New Legislation• Peel Region• New Bylaw policy covers a maximum of 2 false alarms per 1 year period• Following 2nd false alarm, police response is suspended for 1 year• Cost Recovery Fee of $160 is billed upon suspension and with each

subsequent false alarm dispatch

• City of Guelph• Monitoring Centres are now required to verify alarms prior to dispatch• $160 fee for false alarms dispatched to and $80 for cancelled false alarms• Video Verified calls are prioritized over non-verified (low-level) alarms

• Hamilton Police• False Alarm By-law requires all monitored be registered for police services
