Started in July of 2012, Alarm Grid is a new home security system offering a new and quite unique business model. With a $0 activation and monitoring that can be as cheap as $10 per month, Alarm Grid provides an affordable, do-it-yourself alternative to traditional home security systems. They provide assistance to help customers choose, purchase and install their own security system, and then monitor it for a relatively low cost. The catch seems to be that Alarm Grid requires you to purchase your equipment out of contract and upfront, which can be pricey without a portion of the cost split up over several years, as part of the contracted monthly price.

Installation is performed by the customer, making it a highly involved process. If customer wants a professional installation, they will have to find another provider or a contractor to assist them. Alarm Grid does offer customer service to assist customers with their installation, though, and are willing to walk them through the process step by step.

While time in business is an important factor in a business’s resume, Alarm Grid has done an effective job pleasing customers during their first two years. The no-contract, no-install fees approach is appealing, but may alienate customers looking for a more typical and “simple” option. Low prices monthly prices is also attractive. On the most basic plan, customers monitor their own system. Monitoring for their other plans is performed by performed by Criticom, and has fast response times, which is important in the case of an emergency.

Alarm Grid is a rising company. You can get a monitored alarm system through them without a contract, install fees, or risk of cancellation fees. With only a few short years in business, they do not have a proven track record yet and, as such, signing with them will be a riskier move. By providing Honeywell equipment, however, customers can feel assured that Alarm Grid will provide them with quality equipment at a low price.
