Here are some tips that may help you beforewashing.

Sorting your laundrySort items according to:• how soiled they are• color• material

Clothing• Close zippers so that they don’t harm fab-

rics.• New colored items may contain excess

dye and should therefore be washed sep-arately the first few times.

• Turn delicate items inside out. This re-duces the risk of burling and fading.

• Empty pockets and wash them inside outif possible!

Laundry labelsLook at the item’s laundry label. The tablebelow shows suitable wash programs for dif-ferent materials and wash loads. Using mod-ern washing machines and detergents, suchas compact detergents, you can usually washat lower temperatures. It is a good idea to usetrial and error to find out what produces thebest results.

Advice and tips before washing

Page 13: Akso Washing Machine w6022 Manual

Colored cottonColored cotton items labeled 140°F (60°C)should be washed at 140°F (60°C) the firsttime in order to remove any excess dye. If youdo not do so, there is a risk that the color willrun. Use detergent without bleach in order topreserve the color of the fabric.

DelicatesUnbleached linenUnbleached linen fabrics should be washedat 140°F (60°C), using detergent containingno bleach or optical whiteners. Heavily-soiledlinen can occasionally be washed at highertemperatures, but not too often as the heatcan destroy the linen’s sheen and strength.

Wool and silkThese fabrics are sometimes labeled as ma-chine washable and sometimes as handwash. The machine’s Wool/hand program isjust as gentle as washing by hand.Wool is especially sensitive to processes suchas washing. If you do not wish to spin dry, you cansqueeze out thewater using terrycloth towels. In this case select No spin.To find out how to select this setting, see theWashing chapter. However, most garmentscan withstand a short spin. Choose a shortspin by selecting a spin speed of 800 rpm orless.

Artificial fibers and synthetic fibersThese materials require plenty of room toprevent them from getting wrinkled. Only fillhalf the drum when washing artificial or syn-thetic fibers. Choose a short spin by selectinga spin speed of 800 rpm or less.

Note!Viscose and acetates are fragile when wet.

Reducing allergic reactionsThe washingmachine has a Super Rinse op-tion. Use this for people with sensitive skin, such as those with allergies and small chil-dren.

Save time and energyUse the White program to save time and en-ergy. This program has a shorter main washthan Normal, but is often sufficient for lightlysoiled laundry.

Economy and efficiencyYou can save a lot of energy by not usinghigher temperature programs than necessary.• Select Quick if you just need to freshen up

shirts or exercise clothes, for example. Thiswill save both water and energy.

• If you select a fast spin speed, this reducesenergy consumption when drying in atumble dryer or drying cabinet.

• Always wash with a full load when usingthe Sani, Stain - Color, Color, and Whiteprograms!

• Avoid washing with pre-wash. Modernmachines and detergents clean withoutpre-wash.Only very heavily soiled laundry, such as overalls and similar garments, arelikely to need a pre-wash.

DetergentsEco-labeled detergents are less harmful tothe environment.Detergent overdosing does not give betterwashing results; it merely causes a greaterimpact on the environment.Try to use less detergent, and increase onlyif you are not satisfied with the results.

Advice and tips before washing

Page 14: Akso Washing Machine w6022 Manual

Dyeing fabricsIf you want to dye fabrics in the machine, se-lect theNormal programwith the Super Rinseoption On. Select temperature according tothe dye manufacturer’s recommendations.Choose a low spin speed if the fabric to bedyed is a blended material such aspolyester/cotton.

Note!Add the dye directly to the washing drum –not to the detergent compartment. After dye-ing, you should run the machine empty usingthe same program. Use the normal amountof detergent.

Note!Due to environmental concerns, we discour-age the use of strong chemicals. When using agents for bleaching or stain re-moval, there is a risk of rust (corrosion) anddiscoloration of the machine.

Liquid detergentsWe don’t recommend liquid detergents be-cause they tend to produce more suds thanpowder detergents when used in water tem-peratures of 150° F or higher. If you shouldtry a liquid detergent, start with a very smallamount, such as 1 to 2 tablespoons. Also, liquid detergent can be used for all programswithout prewash, so add it into themain washcompartment.Should youprefer to use a liquiddetergent, we have provided a partition piecewith the detergent drawer specifically for usewith liquid detergents. Insert the partition inthe slot at the back of themainwash compart-ment before you pour in the liquid detergent.

NoteThe partition piece is packaged in the Docu-ment set supplied with the machine

DetergentsLaundry detergents are available in low-,normal- and high-sudsing formulas. A deter-gent´s ability to clean is not relative to theamount of suds it produces. Excess suds ina front-loading washer actually interfere withthe cleaning because they cushion the tum-bling action. Also, high-sudsing detergentsare more difficult to completely rinse out.Theuse of anything other than a low-sudsing de-tergent can cause severe oversudsing, whichcould cause suds to backup through the de-tergent compartment and run down the frontof the washer onto the floor. If oversudsingoccurs, run the wash through one or morerinse programs until all items are thoroughlyrinsed. Remove the laundry then run thewasher through a Normal wash program toget rid of any remaining detergent. We recom-mend that you don’t use bleach in your ASKOwasher. The tumbling wash action, tempera-ture control options, extended wash timesand proper amount of detergent are sufficientto remove most stains.

Recommended powder detergentsASKO washers use 50% to 75% less deter-gent than most other washers. This is be-cause of their lowwater consumption and thefact that all the wash water is repeatedly cir-culated through the laundry, ensuring that allthe detergent is fully utilized. We recommendthat you use powder detergents madespecifically for front-loading washers. Theseare sometimes called HE (High-Efficiency)detergents. Listed below are some low-sudsing powder detergents that have beensuccessfully tested in ASKO washers:• Fab• All• Tide HE• Amway SA8• Fresh Start• Wisk HEWe recommend that you do not use anypowder detergent that doesn’twashcomplete-ly out of the detergent drawer.

Detergent AmountsBasedonWaterHardnessThe amount of detergent needed can varydue to differences in water hardness. To de-termine the water hardness in your area, contact your local water utility or area watersoftening company. The harder thewater, themore detergent you may need. Refer to thechart below for the recommended detergentamounts based on water hardness. Remem-ber, you should adjust the amount of deter-gent you use by small amounts until you findthe correct amount.Note that 12 grains andhigher is extremely hard water and detergentalone may not be enough. You may need touse a water softener to maximize the perfor-mance of your washer. Also, in areas withextremely hard water (9+) you may need towash at lower temperatures to prevent hardwater deposits from forming in the tank andwash system.Different brands of detergenthave different amounts of phosphorous forsoftening water. If you have hard water anduse a detergent with less than 8.7%phospho-rous content, you may need to use more de-tergent or use a detergent with a higherphosphorous content.

Amount of detergent to useThe amount of detergent needed variesamong the different brands, but for most de-tergents, you need only one or two table-spoons. Using toomuch detergent can resultin detergent residue being left in your clothes, which can cause them to appear gray ordingy. You should start with a small amountof detergent and increase it only if the clean-ing results are unsatisfactory.Additionally, youshould never put detergent in the prewashcompartment unless you are using a washprogram that has a prewash cycle. This couldcause excess foaming, which could damagethemachine.Theamount of detergent neededcan also depend on the hardness of thewaterin your area. See the “Detergent AmountsBased on Water Hardness” section on thenext page for more details.

Cleaning the inside of the machineto avoid unpleasant smellsModern detergents often allow laundry to bewashed at low temperatures. Thismeans thatsmall deposits can build up in the machine. These, in turn, may lead to unpleasant odorsdeveloping. To avoid this, we recommend running a 203°F(95°C) wash program once a month. Whenyou do this, use a small quantity of detergent. It is not necessary to put any laundry in themachine.
