The spirit of giving is alive

and well.

Thanks to the generosity of our members and Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union staff, we were able to raise and collect over $7,000 for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare as part of our Miracle Mondays fundraiser.

Miracle Mondays kicked off in early September and allowed MMFCU staff to wear jeans to work on Mondays for a suggested $2 contribution toward the fund. Members of the Credit Union were also encouraged to donate at any MMFCU branch through November 24th. All money raised was matched by MMFCU, then matched again by the CO-OP’s Miracle Match program. What’s more, every ‘like’ on MMFCU’s Facebook page regarding the Miracle Mondays campaign also earned a dollar.

In the end, the total contribution to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare equaled$7,303.48. Thank you for making miracles happen in, and around, our area for children and families.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Am I the only person who was taken by surprise with the arrival of the holidays? It seemed like I blinked and it was Christmas. It’s amazing how quickly time flies these days.

The past few months since we visited last have been filled with a flurry of activity. We recently announced the launch of our updated online banking option. This new, user-friendly system replaced PC Teller and allows MMFCU the ability to provide many more requested features and functions to our membership, including Mobile Banking from your Smartphone. You now have the flexibility and convenience of viewing account balances, locating ATMs, transferring funds, and more from virtually anywhere and at any time! You also have the ability to customize your online experience to fit your specific needs, including a personalized landing page, budgeting, expense tracking, financial tips and goal setting abilities. Easy, convenient and on-the-go to meet your needs and busy lifestyle.

During the months of September, October, and November, staff and members wholeheartedly embraced our Miracle Mondays campaign and raised over $7,000 for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Your generosity knows no season and continues to amaze me year after year. Thank you to everyone who helped make this donation possible.

Also within the past few months has come, possibly, the biggest news of all.

In October, Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union announced it would expand its field of membership to include the counties of Becker, Norman, and parts of Aitkin County, including the communities of Aitkin, McGregor and Palisade. What this means is the potential to add a branch in the Detroit Lakes area to serve our new Becker County members, as well as a potential cooperative effort with an existing credit union in Norman County. The close proximity of our Crosby branch location will serve our new Aitkin County members well.

We look forward to helping improve the financial well-being of the individuals, and potential new members, in these respective areas. We also encourage you, our existing members, to share the difference the credit union has made in your lives.

What began as a movement by a handful of individuals has, over a span of six de-cades, become an organization that many have found tremendous value in. This recent growth proves that ‘people helping people’ is truly the desire and passion of so many individuals.

As we reflect on the months, and year, that have passed; I want to send my most heartfelt wishes for happiness, health and financial well-being to you and yours. Thank you for your friendship and loyalty.

Here’s to a promising 2015!

– Chuck Albrecht, President / CEO

We resolve to keep evolving!

In the Checkout Line: Debit vs. CreditIt used to be when you used your Mid-Minnesota VISA Debit Card for a purchase it was processed as a VISA transaction unless you entered a Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you picked the option to enter your PIN, it was processed as a CO-OP ATM transaction. Now CO-OP ATM Network has the capability of processing these transactions without a PIN.

What that means for MMFCU VISA Debit Card holders is it may be more difficult to tell if you are paying for an item via a VISA transaction or ATM transaction since you will no longer be prompted to enter a PIN. However, it is each merchant’s responsibility to provide a clear way for you to choose either the CO-OP ATM option or VISA transaction option for your purchase. You might ask, “What’s the difference?” The money, after all, is coming from the same account either way.

VISA transactions typically include benefits that may not be provided for non-VISA transactions, such as zero liability and/or streamlined dispute resolution in the event you should need to dispute a transaction. However, the protection does not apply when your VISA Debit Card is used for ATM transactions or new PIN-free transactions through the CO-OP network which are not processed by VISA.
