City and Guilds Refrigerant Handling for Mobile Air Conditioning Systems

Qualification No: 7543-01-001

Module 1 (F Gas Assessment)

The first of 3 modules towards the full City and Guilds qualification in Mobile Air ConditioningSystems. This is also a mandatory requirement directed by the European Union and Defra for allengineers who handle refrigerants and carrying out repairs of vehicle air conditioning systems.

This module is an assessment of the candidates competency and ability to operate a recovery unitand have a clear understanding of the fluorinated greenhouse gases and their environmental impact.

Prior to the assessment the candidate will need a minimum skills level and knowledge of thefollowing:

- The function and layout of a vehicle air conditioning system- Correct use of air conditioning service equipment and service tools - Environmental implications – ozone depletion and global warming - The safe transfer, waste disposal and recycling of refrigerants

All candidates will be issued with study notes and joining instructions prior to attending theirRefrigerant Handling Assessment. On successful completion of this City and Guilds module,candidates will receive their certificate and this will be a licence for life - dependent onlegislation.

How does Ozone work?

Ozone is a molecule of three oxygen atoms bound together (O3), with negative electric charge. Theozone operates according to the principle of oxidisation. When the static loaded ozone molecule (O3)contact with something “able to oxidise”, the charge of the ozone molecule will directly flow over. This isbecause ozone is very unstable and tends to turn back into its original form (O2).Ozone can oxidise with all kinds of materials, but also with odours and micro-organisms like viruses,moulds and bacteria. The extra oxygen atom releases from the ozone molecule and binds with other theother material. In the end, only the pure and stable oxygen molecule remains.

Our fully trained and qualified engineers will giveyou the back up and support required whether you’re a newstarter to air con or requiring technical information. Ourtechnical department will also give you the advice andsupport you require throughout the summer season.

Technical Training

Our field engineers operate throughout the UK. We willdeliver a complete air conditioning equipment package toyour premises, commission and prepare the service anddiagnostic equipment ready for use. A full technical trainingcourse covering all aspects of equipment procedures isgiven to technicians prior to conducting the City and Guildssafe handing of refrigerants. Once completed successfulcandidates will receive a licence for life to handlerefrigerants.

Cooling Edge offers a complete suite of technical trainingcourses for the automotive and agricultural vehicle airconditioning industries. Whether it’s an introduction to airconditioning or a fault diagnostic course we are able to offeron site training / assessments at your premises. As anApproved City and Guilds Centre, Cooling Edge offers theLevel 3 Certificate in Mobile Air Conditioning 7543/01. Ourtrainers and assessors are factory trained by Denso ThermalSystems to ensure they have up to date knowledge of theequipment / processes and with any changes in legislation.


All service equipment and products purchased from Cooling Edge are subject to a twelve month warranty(unless otherwise stated) from the date of purchase. Warranty will apply against any incorrect manufacture,leakage, corrosion, and fitment providing the correct procedures have been carried out by a competenttechnician. All products and equipment must be used correctly in accordance with the instruction manualsand or training provided by Cooling Edge. No consequential loss will be covered, i.e. labour charge, mileage,hire vehicles etc.

PricingPrices that are quoted by Cooling Edge will be subject to VAT at the current rate (unless otherwise stated) atthe time of purchase. Cooling Edge reserves the right to change any prices without prior notice. Catalogueinformation, images and part numbers are to be used for reference and guidance only. Part numbers andinformation remains the property of Cooling Edge and should not be used without written consent.

Payment TermsAll Payments by customers will be made with cleared funds unless a credit account has been opened withCooling Edge. All credit accounts will be due for payment 30 days from the invoice date. (unless otherwisestated in writing). Delays or late payment to Cooling Edge will invalidate any warranties of which these willbe dealt with upon total payment of account. Cooling Edge reserves the right to cancel any customeraccount without prior notice should payment terms not be maintained. All products will remain theproperty of Cooling Edge until full payment has been received. Cooling Edge reserves the right to collectmonies for goods that are outstanding by means of debt collection. Cooling Edge reserves the right tocharge interest on overdue invoices.

Deliveries / CollectionsDeliveries and collections made to and from customers are in conjunction with our carrier company. NeitherCooling Edge or the carrier company will be liable for any loss due to late or failed deliveries or collections.Carriage will be charged at current rate depending on time of delivery, prices will be quoted at point of saleby Cooling Edge and will remain payable in full even if the part supplied is returned. Items received by thecustomer damaged or incorrect will be credited in full. All damages/shortages must be reported to CoolingEdge within 48 hrs of receipt. Any items received damaged must be signed for as “damaged” and notifiedwith the carrier at time of delivery. All damaged products must be returned within 30 working days oforiginal invoice date along with a copy of the original invoice. Any products returned to Cooling Edge after30 days will not be accepted for credit.

ReturnsAny product that is no longer required by the customer and was supplied correctly will be subject to aminimal administration charge to cover repackaging costs. All items must be returned in original packagingwere possible and must be packed to avoid return damage with carriers. Failure to do so will result in nocredit being raised.

WarrantyWhere a warranty issue is present the replacement part must be supplied by Cooling Edge. If not, then wewill endeavour to supply a suitable replacement, under no circumstances will Cooling Edge be liable topaying for a part not supplied/approved by us. We reserve the right to repair, replace or refund. Uponreturn of the failed item (with a copy of the original invoice or invoice number) credit will be arranged onceinspection has been fully carried out and item agreed to be covered by warranty, should the item bedeemed as not faulty (incorrect procedures/damage during use etc) then the item will be returned with nocredit and will remain payable to the prices on the replacement part invoice that refers. It may be necessaryto return the item to the original manufacturer where their decision is final and replacement part invoiceremains payable.
