The cutting-edge design of the series RCAWTM Air-cooled screw chiller accomplishes high perfor-mance and reliability for industrial and commercial market.
LG Air-cooled screw compressors are precisely machined from solid compound metal bar usingprofound cutting process. Tolerance is maintained within a few microns just like one-tenth hairthickness. Robust components with highly skilled assembling process help the compressor last fora long time.
LG condenser production technology is already well-known to worldwide air conditioning manufac-turing industries because of its leading technologies.
2. World class high efficiency (High efficiency model RCAW****A**)
Top level efficiency is in accordance with ARI Standard 550/590
Optimized compressor design including a rotor and a slide valve is suitable for comfort coolingapplications. The rotor is designed to work efficiently for different pressure ranges covering airconditioning and refrigeration application.
The slide valve controls the cooling capacity by controlling the position of the slide where refriger-ant suction starts using internal pressure difference between discharge and suction. LG air cooledscrew chiller has 4 steps capacity control (100, 75, 50, 25%) capability which is optimized for part-load condition.
Precise rotor tip clearance provides excellent energy efficiency in the screw rotary compressorbecause this reduces leakage from high pressure to low pressure side during compression,achieving top class C.O.P.
The evaporator uses internally grooved tubes having helical angle which enhanced the water sideheat transfer performance. The outside of the tube is of optimum shape which has highlyenhanced performance for pooling boiling and film-wise evaporation with R134-a. The V-shape ofcondenser allows the largest heat transfer surface area for the same footprint, resulting in largestheat transfer performance when the configuration is optimally designed. The LG V-shape con-denser coil was designed using numerical and experimental analysis, having optimum air flow pathto optimize heat rejection performance. Also, the enhanced condenser fin geometry allows theoptimum heat transfer performance at small air side pressure drop, and this reduces the fan-motorpower consumption. The fin is pre-coated to prevent corrosion at normal conditions and epoxycoated fin condenser which is sustainable in harsh conditions, is also available as option.

7. Factory Testing
Unit Performance TestingAll LG air-cooled screw chillers are given a complete functional test at the factory. LG computer-based testing programs completely check the components including sensors, wiring, electronicsand microprocessor control functions.
LG promotes factory performance tests for air-cooled chillers and water-cooled chillers to showthat we stand behind the products which are designed and build up.
The benefits of a performance test include verification of performance, prevention of operationalproblems, and assurance of a smooth start-up. Each compressor is run and tested to verify capac-ity and efficiency. Based on the result of this testing, Chiller arrives at the job site fully tested andready for operation. The LG test facility is able to simulate real circumstance assuring operation indifferent climate conditions.

Unit controls of the LGE air cooled screw chiller shall include following benefits and features.
1. Adaptive Chiller Control and Higher Level Protection. The latest chiller control technologies provide enhanced operations of the chiller. The chiller control system isbased on recent PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) technology. Because the PLC is designed to be com-patible with several electromagnetic interference and also compatible with severe ambient conditions, the unithas reliable controllability in any conditions.
The adaptive chiller control is designed to operate the unit to withstand sever conditions and maintain its opera-tion. Good examples are condenser fan controls by cycling according to the temperature of condenser refriger-ant and the limitation of compressor capacity in the case of high chilled water temperature.
Along with the adaptive control, the control also provides higher level protection through multiple protectivedevices. For example triple protective devices are used for the detection of abnormal oil circulation. The controlsystem continues to monitor the hazardous conditions of the unit, and shutdown the unit to protect the unitsafely when any condition meets safety limit.
2. Rich Human Machine InterfaceThe HMI (Human Machine Interface) side of the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI assembly isshown on the door side as shown in the below picture. The HMI is composed of wide full dot LCD with 4 linedisplay and back light, 9 functional keys, and 15 indicating LEDs for rich user interface.
Through the LCD interface, the operator can monitor the status of chiller operation and control in detail. And thecontrol configurations also can be performed through the LCD interface. For the monitoring and the configura-tion, 7 menu items are prepared in the LCD display from main menu to parameter setting as shown in thebelow picture. In the below picture, amendable menu contents for the configuration are depicted with shadedcolor.

3. Superior Power Supply Monitoring
Superior power supply monitoring function of the control system is enabled by protective functionagainst high voltage, low voltage, power loss, phase reverse, and phase imbalance. The superior function of safe power supply to the unit is provided as standard.
4. Standard Wye-delta Start Type and Optional Soft Start Type
The wye-delta start provides reduced starting current by 1/3. The LGE chiller is equipped with thewye-delta start of the compressor. Optionally, soft start type shall be provided for soft start of thecompressor by linear voltage increase.
5. Standard MODBUS Connectivity and Optional BACnet and LonWorks Connectivity.
The control system of the LGE chiller provides measure to be integrated in modern BMS systemseamlessly. Because the control system provides MODBUS connectivity by standard, no addition-al cost for the BMS integration is needed for the system integration based on the MODBUS.Specially, BACnet or LonWorks can be applied to the system on the request of customer byoption.
6. Versatile Electric and control Options Satisfying Customer’s Requirements are as given belowin a table.
Customer can have various option. For example:
Standard terminal block, dual point power connection, no capacitor for power correction.
These all options are factory installed as per customer requirement.

To select RCAW series chiller, use the LAT’s Chiller (Computerized) program or follow one of theprocedures below.

• Flooded air cooled chiller should be installed in the ground open air or provided proper ventilation.
• If install the unit alongside the wall, there must be enough ventilation space.

y17. Guide Specifications
General• LG RCAW series is air cooled type liquid screw chiller.
• Each RCAW series chiller is factory-assembled including compressor, motor, evaporator, condenser,control box, and all interconnecting unit piping and wiring completely.
• The initial charge of refrigerant HFC-134a and oil will be supplied for all units.
High Performance Screw Compressor• Selected imported semi-hermetic twin-rotor screw compressor, screw rotor uses patented tooth, with
a low vibration and low noise.
• Screw compressors deliver oil by pressure difference.
• A refrigerant dispersing cooling device is set internally to the compressor motor.
• Compressor motor starter type: Wye-delta unloaded startup.
• Regulation of capacity uses multi step control to precisely control water temperature.
• The rotor housing is made of high strength gray cast iron FC-25.
• Liquid injection shall be used to get high EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio), high condensing pressureand low sound pressure levels in each load condition.
• System differential pressure shall circulate oil, and oil goes into compressor suction part through10micron, full flow and cartridge type oil filter. Refrigerant system differential pressure shall provideliquid injection on all moving parts inside compressor for proper lubrication.
• The compressor's oil cooling must be released when necessary, by liquid injection. External dedicat-ed heat exchanger(flash gas tank) and additional piping to carry the oil from the compressor to heatexchanger(flash gas tank) and vice versa will not be accepted.
• The compressor is provided with an integrated, high efficiency oil separator and built-in oil filter.
• The compressor casing is provided with ports for optimized refrigerant cycles.
• Two thermal protection devices (high temperature sensor) are installed on compressor to protect themotor and oil against high temperature.
Heat Exchanger• Flooded type shell and tube horizontal heat exchanger : Tube line takes chilled water, shell line takes
refrigerant.
• Design pressure for shell is 300psig(2.1MPa).
• Design working pressure for tube line is 150psig(1.0MPa) or 300psig(optional).
• The evaporator is designed and tested in accordance with ASME for a refrigerant side pressure of300 psig (2.1MPa).
• The evaporator and economizer are insulated with 3/4inch(19mm) insulation(K=0.26).

Heat Exchanger Fans and Motors• High efficient axial fans, anti-corrosion, specially designed vane shape meet for even air flow, and
air pressure of the air cooled unit and it is tested for static and dynamic balance, efficiency, vibra-tion, and sound level.
• The fans used in conjunction with the condenser coils, are of helical type with aerofoil blades forhigh efficiency and low sound. Each fan is protected by a fan guard.
• The air discharge is vertical and each fan is coupled with an electrical motor, capable to work atambient temperatures from -4°F(-20°C) to 149°F(65°C).
• The fan motor has individual overload protection through relay switch.
• Outdoor-type special motor with the following characteristics :
