THIS TYPE OF COMPRESSOR USES PISTON-CYLINDER ARRANGEMENT TO COMPRESS THE AIR.WHENEVER SOMETHING MOVES BACK AND FORTH IT IS CONSIDERED AS MOVING IN RECIPROCATING MOTION.SIMILARLY IN THIS TYPE PISTON MOVE BACK AND FORTH INSIDE THE CYLINDER AND COMPRESS THE AIR.THERE ARE TWO SETS OF VALVES THAT TAKE CARE OF AIR INTAKE AND EXHAUST AS SHOWN IN FIG

CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS, SOMETIMES TERMED RADIAL COMPRESSORS, ARE A SUB-CLASS OF DYNAMIC AXISYMMETRIC WORK-ABSORBING TURBOMACHINERY. THE IDEALIZED COMPRESSIVE DYNAMIC TURBO-MACHINE ACHIEVES A PRESSURE RISE BY ADDING KINETIC ENERGY/VELOCITY TO A CONTINUOUS FLOW OF FLUID THROUGH THE ROTOR OR IMPELLER.

THE ROOTS TYPE BLOWER IS A POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT LOBE PUMP WHICH OPERATES BY PUMPING AFLUID WITH A PAIR OF MESHING LOBES NOT UNLIKE A SET OF STRETCHED GEARS. FLUID IS TRAPPED IN POCKETS SURROUNDING THE LOBES AND CARRIED FROM THE INTAKE SIDE TO THE EXHAUST. THE MOST COMMON APPLICATION OF THE ROOTS TYPE BLOWER HAS BEEN AS THE INDUCTION DEVICE ON TWO-STROKE DIESEL ENGINES, SUCH AS THOSE PRODUCED BY DETROIT DIESEL AND ELECTRO-MOTIVE DIESEL.

A ROTARY VANE PUMP IS A POSITIVE-DISPLACEMENT PUMP THAT CONSISTS OF VANES MOUNTED TO A ROTOR THAT ROTATES INSIDE OF A CAVITY. IN SOME CASES THESE VANES CAN HAVE VARIABLE LENGTH AND/OR BE TENSIONED TO MAINTAIN CONTACT WITH THE WALLS AS THE PUMP ROTATES. IT WAS INVENTED BY CHARLES C. BARNES OF SACKVILLE, NEW BRUNSWICK, WHO PATENTED IT ON JUNE 16, 1874.[1][2] THERE HAVE BEEN VARIOUS IMPROVEMENTS, INCLUDING A VARIABLE VANE PUMP FOR GASES

A ROTARY-SCREW COMPRESSOR IS A TYPE OF GAS COMPRESSOR THAT USES A ROTARY-TYPE POSITIVE-DISPLACEMENT MECHANISM. THEY ARE COMMONLY USED TO REPLACE PISTON COMPRESSORS WHERE LARGE VOLUMES OF HIGH-PRESSURE AIR ARE NEEDED, EITHER FOR LARGE INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS OR TO OPERATE HIGH-POWER AIR TOOLS SUCH AS JACKHAMMERS.
