Common planning and situational
awareness tools for units at all echelons
provides a tool for the tactical initialization of AMD weapon systems. It enables these sys-tems to operate in compliance with operations orders and weapon employment directives issued by higher Army or joint force headquarters. As a com-ponent of the Air and Missile Defense Planning and Control System (AMDPCS), AMDWS is fielded to air defense artillery brigades, battalions and bat-teries with AMD systems. Used throughout the force structure, AMDWS is deployed in all 10 Army divisions and has received high praise for its performance in current operations around the world.
AMDWS provides the air com-ponent of the Common Tactical Picture to the ABCS at division and corps levels and is the

Northrop Grumman’s Air and Missile Defense Workstation (AMDWS) has proven its ability to meet those critical needs on the battlefield. Northrop Grumman continues to improve AMDWS, the U.S. Army’s collaborative battle-space awareness information management system. The work-station provides common air and missile defense (AMD) planning and situational awareness tools to air defense artillery and other Army units at all echelons of com-mand, theater through fire unit.
Key FeaturesAMDWS contributes to combat effectiveness by retrieving, fusing and distributing time-sensitive
information needed for critical decision support. It retrieves battle-space awareness informa-tion from joint headquarters, the Army Battle Command System (ABCS) network, national intelli-gence assets, all source centers and tactical and strategic sensors. AMDWS uses this information to display combat operations, combining airborne-, ground- and space-based sensor input with automated planning tools as well as command and staff data. It distri-butes an integrated view of the battlefield over tactical and special purpose communications networks in near real-time, while supporting concurrent interaction with joint command and control networks, sensor sources and ABCS.
