Who Are We?• SNDS provides employment &

training support to First Nation and Inuit people to train or retain long term economic independence.

• On average SNDS manages approx. 850-1500 active files at any given time

• Our Service Area is approx. 276,000 sq. km. serving 27 First Nation villages and 5 urban centres, for an approx. pop. Base of 30,000

• Program focus is individualized • SNDS is a non-political entity

Short Term Certificate Training• Provides financial

support for certified training programs 12 months or less, covering tuition and books ONLY

Ineligible expenses include:

• Living allowance• Transportation• Childcare• Full-time upgrading• Workshop/

conferences/ seminars

Trades Apprenticeship• In partnership with the Private Business

Sector, SNDS provides resources to First Nations individuals to attain provincial journeyman trades certification

• SNDS provides funding for wages, training courses, and tutoring on an as-needed basis

• Applicants must go through a thorough counseling session to ensure minimum requirements are met, PRIOR to training

• Apprentices must successfully complete classroom portion of trades training each year

To-date, we have certified 31 individuals who are now gainfully

employed…

Business Development• Focused on helping the individual entrepreneur

to develop a business idea. SNDS will help with the initial stages of researching, screening and business planning in order to increase chances for success

• SNDS does not provide capital for business start-up. Our focus is on the development of the business idea and subsequent planning. A strong business plan will assist the entrepreneur to access business loans and demonstrates the viability of the proposed venture

Post Secondary Bursary

• A maximum of 20 bursaries with 2 intakes per year are offered

• Applicants must have: a GPA of 3.0 or higher; must be in their second year and planning to return; must normally reside in our Service Area

• Our annual Samuel A. Munroe Educational Assistance Program encourages success in school through the awarding of technology

• Open to all students in grades 5-12 who normally reside in our Service Area

• Application restrictions apply

Youth Lifestyles • For youth between

the ages of 5-18 who reside in the urban areas of Terrace and Prince Rupert

• SNDS can provide financial resources to eligible applicants to take part in fine arts, recreation or sports

• The Summer Student Program encourages youth to receive job experience in both the private and public sectors

• The program is application driven. Public Sector Institutions (i.e. Band Governments, Friendship Centres) and Private Businesses with the intent to hire summer students are eligible to apply

• Wage Subsidy of $8.00 per hour• Application Restrictions Apply

• The Federal On-reserve Childcare Program provides operational support funds for quality childcare services to studying or working parents. These funds are to be used in partnership and in a complimentary fashion with other funding sources

What else do we do?• SNDS has been extremely proactive since we

began our operations approximately 16 years ago. In addition to administering programs and services that assist our clients we also put a great deal of effort into understanding the Labour Market and economic trends

• Our publications include: the Labour Market Census (published every three years) and a book entitled “Masters in Our Own House: The Path to Prosperity”

• We also publish a bi-monthly newsletter and distribute email updates to individuals who request it (free of charge)
