President noteIt is with great pleasure that AIESEC in Tanzania presents another version of Career Fair. Since its establishment in 1991, AIESEC in Tanzania has strived to ensure that it provides the right opportunities for the youth to explore and develop their own potentials for positive impact in the society. This year’s Career Fair goes hand in hand with the first implementation of our 2015 vision “Engage and Develop every young person in the world” which aims at reaching out more young people in our communities. This year’s Career Fair theme “We have the talents, You have the Jobs” explains why it is important for such an event to occur. With more students becoming aware of the impact of AIESEC, and Corporate seeing the value it is adding to their businesses, it is imperative that these two bodies be brought together in an informal but interactive way, to share and construct a common way of reaching their goals and thus having a positive impact together.AIESEC in Tanzania believes that this event will leave a positive mark to both Corporates and students. The exploration of talents that these students are blessed with will lead to acquisition of desired jobs and employment opportunities thus helping our government to deal with the problem of employment amongst graduates and entire community. On the other note, AIESEC in Tanzania would like to recognize and appreciate the support of all participating companies in making this event a successful one, your support does not only add value to students and organizations your representing, but also helps to build a better Tanzania that we all envy to see.Being the biggest student-run organization in the world, AIESEC continues to aspire for a better and impactful world. Our activities aim at bringing up individuals into top stands and make them very competent global citizens. It is our belief that the skills gained out of this event will enable us to understand our path, develop our goals and get ready to face the job market.

Regards;Fredrick MushiPresident- AIESEC in Tanzania2011-2012

INTRODUCTIONClouds Media Group is a limited company, that since inception 11 years ago, has focused on entertainment. The entity has five subsidiaries that all function independently, but often carry out joint campaigns, when the need arises. In July 2011, the group was ranked 17TH among Tanzania’s top 100 mid-sized companies.

1) PRIMETIME PROMOTIONS- This is the event arm of the group and was started 10 years ago. It has matured and made a name for itself as the most reliable event production group, a fact that can be attested by the continued success of the biggest annual roadshow in the country-Fiesta. This is a series of concerts held all over the country within a 30 day period. The concerts feature local artistes, talent search sessions and face-to-face interviews with the public and Clouds FM radio presenters. It culminates in a grand finale in Dar-es-Salaam, where the concert headlines an international artiste. Some of these artistes that have graced past Fiestas include, Shaggy, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, Sean Paul and 2 Face Idibia. This year’s international artiste was Ludacris who performed on 30THJuly 2011. Due to the events’ high visibility and popularity all over the country, it has attracted main title sponsorship every year.

2) CLOUDS FM- This was among the pioneer privately owned, commercial radio stations and began operations in 2000. From an initial transmission surface area of the capital city and its environs, it now transmits to over 15 regions , focusing on the urban populations all over the country. The station enjoys the highest listenership ratings across the age group of 18 to 35 years, and is perceived as a trend setter in the industry. We have been able to attract both big and small advertisers due to our ratings, as well as our creative and innovative on-air promotions that we regularly carry out. Clouds FM broadcasts 24 hours a day in the Swahili language to the masses and has now become a household name, as Clouds FM has been recognized as a Superbrand two years in a row- 2010 and 2011. It can also be listened to live on the website www.cloudsfm.co

3) CHOICE FM- This is the English station of the group, targeting upwardly mobile young Tanzanians, decision makers and expatriates. It currently broadcasts in the capital, but plans are underway to expand to 5 other towns- Arusha, Dodoma, Mwanza , Mbeya and Tanga, before the end of 2011. It is considered hip, fun, vocal and informative. It can also be listened to live on www.choicefm.co, where there is a lot of interaction from Tanzanians living and studying abroad.

4) COCONUT FM- This is a local radio station broadcasting in Swahili, for the local residents of Zanzibar Island and surrounding islands such as Pemba. Though it is a small region, the culture, language and music differs significantly from that of the mainland, as it has more Arabic influence from its historical past. Its target market is 18 to 35 years of age.

5) CLOUDS TV- This is the newest subsidiary of the group, with just under 2 years into operation, and according to the latest media surveys by Synovate research company, it already ranked among the top ten in the country and top 5 in Dar-ea-Salaam. This is a good effort considering its age, but these rankings will definitely improve in the coming months. Its focus is information and entertainment, with some of its achievements being running the first local soap opera- 69 Records. Programming will improve even more in the coming months, which, combined with our expansion program, will increase our viewership ratings. Currently, the TV station is free-to-air in Dar-es-Salaam and its environs, and through Star Media decoders upcountry. Core target audience is 18-35, but we do attract younger and slightly older audiences as well.

Standard Chartered Bank has been involved with AIESEC for over 5 years as a National Partner and every year we participate in the Career Fair. It mainly provides us with an opportunity to inform prospective graduates of the career opportunities on offer within the Bank. We are able to increase our brand awareness on campus as a graduate Employer of Choice. The second day is extremely valuable as we get to interact directly with the graduates on a one-on-one basis during the exhibition. It is through these meetings that we have recruited a number of graduates into the Bank. Our Graduate Trainees are exposed to a wide range of banking products, services and departments. They grow with us and often return to support and interact with fresh graduates in career events on campus to give their first hand experience of Standard Chartered Bank. We also offer internships to continuing students. The Career Fair is a true success for us and these are just a few reasons why we keep coming back! Personally, this year will be my sixth AIESEC Career Fair and like every year I look forward to meeting you all.

prOfiLE

The Tanzania Investment Bank Ltd (TIB) was established by an Act of Parliament in the year 1970 following the financial system infrastructure reorganisation in the wake of the Arusha Declaration in 1967.

The primary objective of establishing TIB was to create a specialised long term financing institution responsible for economic growth through development financing, particularly in the industrial, agricultural and service sectors. Following the economic crisis of the 1980s and the financial sector reforms of the 1990s, TIB changed track, and as a survival mode, became a deposit taking institution. In 1992, it was licensed as a non-bank financial institution under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 1991.

Following the financial reforms that started in the late 1980’s, the government acknowledged the growing gap for medium and long term lending within the economy. In August 2005, re-designated TIB as a national development finance institution in recognition of the important role played by development banks in economic development.

The long – term growth and sustainability of the Tanzania economy depends among other things on availability of sufficient funds to finance projects and the capacity to conceive and nurture projects that bring about rapid economic growth. TIB is currently in the midst of transformation receiving additional equity and new mandate from the government. The transformation program is designed to empower TIB to play a critical role in the implementation of the Government’s Tanzania Development Vision 2025, the Agricultural Sector Development Programme, the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP) as well as the Employment Policy.

As a DFI, TIB would perform the following functions to address the specific financial market deficiencies:

• Develop and promote projects that will bring about economic growth;• Extend term loans;• Provide technical advice and support to investors;• Provide entrepreneurship and enhance competitiveness of SMEs;• Financial Leasing• Provide equity finance; and• Help to target social and environment needs.

In support of and complementary to the above, TIB will in 2012 start a subsidiary corporate bank in order to give our customers full banking services under one roof. The TIB Corporate Bank will offer the following service: medium and long term loans, working capital and trade financing, deposit taking, treasury service, foreign exchange trading, funds transfers, advisory service and fund administration.TIB will collaborate with its stakeholders to ensure that the bank becomes an effective and sustainable DFI. Given its proven record of good performance during the last five years and the support of Government, TIB is ready to take up the challenge. It is noteworthy that whereas the bank is mandated to play a developmental role, it will remain committed to operating profitably and sustainably. The bank foresees a bright and prospective future as it continues to play an increasingly active part in financing economic growth and empowering Tanzanians to become substantive players in the country’s economy. At the same time TIB will seek to achieve the twin objectives of actively and sustainably contributing to the development of Tanzania while at the same time providing the highest level of service to its customers.

baCkGrOundThe human development index of Africa remains one of the lowest in the whole world. The 15 worst- off countries when countries are ranked according to their Human Development Indexes are all African except for Afghanistan according to United Nations Development Program Human Development Report 2011.This literally means that African countries are performing poorly on the index’s indicators which are: Mean Years of Schooling, Expected Years of Schooling, Gross National Income/Capita, Life Expectancy at birth e.t.c

GaryVero is an initiative out of this great need to contribute to the overall growth in the human development Index by mainly building the capacities of the African people. Our focus will be but not limited to the African younger generation in remote areas. ABOUT HRSTA The Human Resources Society of Tanzania (HRSTA) was registered on 4th August 2008 under the Societies Act CAP.377 R.E.2002 as a not-for-profit professional association for human resource management. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, HRSTA has over 250 members consisting of human resource practitioners and professionals as well as finance and administration heads and CEOs of leading organizations in Tanzania.

prOfEssiOnaL affiLiatiOns HRSTA is a member of the African Federation of Human Resource Management Associations (AFHRMA).

Our histOry Prior to its registration, HRSTA operated as the Human Resources Forum of Tanzania (HR Forum) an informal association formed in early 1998 for the purpose of bringing together companies to share and exchange ideas and experiences about human resources issues and establish common strategies where appropriate. The founding companies included Tanzania Breweries, Tanzania Cigarette Company, Coca Cola Kwanza and BP. In the early years, the HR Forum met to discuss best practice and also organized joint remuneration surveys. In year 2000, Tanzania Cigarette Company assumed leadership of the Forum’s activities and managed to expand membership by using a more structured and consultative approach. A Secretariat of 5 members drawn from different sectors was set up in 2001 and assigned responsibility for joint coordination of the Forum’s activities. This structure which continues to be used to date has proven to be very successful as it has provided much needed continuity when key members change careers or leave the country to take on other assignments. The core group of member companies has remained stable since year 2000 and overall membership has

grown from the initial 15 or so organizations to over 50. Member organizations primarily come from the private sector although there is some representation from governmental and non-governmental organizations. Some of the key HR Forum/HRSTA achievements to date include the promotion of best HR practice, participation in the Phase I of the Labor Law Reform process, successful coordination of joint remuneration surveys for 8 consecutive years as well as sponsorship and participation in career fairs and on-campus seminars for institutions of higher learning through the Society’s corporate social responsibility initiative CSR 4 Life that was established in 2007.

About the CV writing competitionFor the past four years, AIESEC in Collaboration with HRSTA has been conducting a CV writing competition in more than 10 higher learning institutions across the country.

Why dOinG this:We believe that one of the most critical things which a student must know before start applying for any job is getting to know how to prepare a PROPER CV, since this is the first document which represent who the candidate for the job is. Since our universities curriculums does not support this kind of informal but very important learning, HRSTA decided to take an initiative to ensure that students benefit from AIESEC Career Fair both by interacting with organizations as well as having an informal class where they are taught on how to prepare their CVs.

hOW is this bEinG dOnE?AIESEC in Tanzania hosts the competition by announcing it to various higher learning institutions across the country. Students are encouraged to submit

their CVs to a specific email address and HRSTA passes through each CV submitted and make important recommendations to each CV. During the Career Fair Day, top 20 CVs are awarded with Certificates of recognition and they also get a chance to network directly with Corporates by attending a corporate lunch on day two of the event.

suCCEss Of thE CV WritinG COmpEtitiOn.For the past three years, we have witnessed students improving on their CV writing skills, this can also be reflected on the number of students who have acquired jobs just by presenting their CVs on the day of the event

EnCOuraGEmEntUniversities should start programmes which will enhance students’ understanding on how to get ready to face the job market other than concentrating much of the time into theoretical work.
