We are progressing with the negotia- tions on a new soil chemist with the department. We have made ad- justments in the Peanut Specialist position with Jason Woodward as- suming those responsibilities. We have received announcements of several new grants and contracts to further our work. We have re- ceived a little rain, but Travis as- sures me that the drought is not over - www.drought.gov. The fed- eral grant and research and exten- sion budgets look better than pre- dicted a few months ago. And, we have Turkey tomorrow, thanks to Carol Rhodes and Bill Rooney and teams. The last few weeks have been highlighted by visits by Marilyn Warburton as part of the Advance program and visits from Syngen- ta and Bayer representatives. We have also had visitors from China, ICARDA and Stephen F Austin. We have now started the efforts to develop a new strategic plan thanks to planning by a committee led by Scott Senseman. The initial plan will go through the Faculty Advi- sory Committee and, the Faculty at large in December. Our curriculum continues rapid transition as we expand our dis- tance offering for graduate pro- grams in plant breeding and regu- latory science. Thanks to all for the efforts in moving these through the approval process. I am currently at a hospital in Chey- enne, Wyoming with my youngest daughter, hopefully a diagnosis and cure will come quickly. Happy Thanksgiving!

We have much to be thankful for as we approach the Holiday. We are progressing with the negotia-tions on a new soil chemist with the department. We have made ad-justments in the Peanut Specialist position with Jason Woodward as-suming those responsibilities. We have received announcements of several new grants and contracts to further our work. We have re-ceived a little rain, but Travis as-sures me that the drought is not over - www.drought.gov. The fed-eral grant and research and exten-sion budgets look better than pre-dicted a few months ago. And, we have Turkey tomorrow, thanks to Carol Rhodes and Bill Rooney and teams.

The last few weeks have been highlighted by visits by Marilyn Warburton as part of the Advance program and visits from Syngen-ta and Bayer representatives. We have also had visitors from China,

Our curriculum continues rapid transition as we expand our dis-tance offering for graduate pro-grams in plant breeding and regu-latory science. Thanks to all for the efforts in moving these through the approval process.

We are deeply saddened at the death of Chris Dowswell. Chris passed away at his home in Mexico on Saturday.

From Jean F. Freymond - His life was people centered and devoted to the betterment of humanity. SG2000 and SAA was his family, and the family is today orphan, wherever it has members, in Africa, in Japan, in the Americas, in Eu-rope Chris will be missed. He will be remembered. His legacy is a very important one on which to build the future, a future which he will have contributed to shape with his ideas and determination.

Condolences Congratulations!
