AHTI's goal is to improve the value of healthcare for Amsterdam and the rest of the world
Vision: Connecting people, technology, and information to improve the value of healthcare for Amsterdam and the rest of the world
Mission: To improve health and achieve better quality healthcare at lower cost through education, innovative research, and by fostering entrepreneurship, across a global network of 'living labs' centered in Amsterdam
Three domains to realize goals• Talent – attract health and technology talent to Amsterdam• Research & Innovation – build a research portfolio• Entrepreneurship– transfer innovation into economic
value
Supported by our global network of living labs centered in Amsterdam
• Living Lab – a real life population as a platform for education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship

Living Lab
What is a living lab?
A living lab is an ecosystem that “brings together interdisciplinary experts to develop, deploy, and test – in actual living environments – new technological and other innovations that respond to this changing world.” 1

The living lab approach has multiple benefits:
• End user centric• Faster testing• Focus on testing and learning in
real world environment• Link multiple disciplines to solve
problems together• PPP partnership• A/B testing
Access to population and access to data

Combination of data sources is key
O/ S • Data over werkloosheid, inkomensniveau, doodsoorzaken, leeftijdsverdeling
GGD • GGD Gezondheidsmonitor• Jeugdgezondheismonitor
Vektis• Vektis opendata• Postcode3 niveau (stadsdelen)• Leeftijds categorieen

Health dataRandomised Control Trials and Real World Evidence
Gezondheidsraad 2008
Multi morbidity
Randomised Controle Trials and Real World Evidence
Randomized control trials Real world evidence• Specific illnesses and
treatments• In general mono-morbidities• Focus on one aspect of
healthcare
Disadvantages• Many patients have more
than 1 morbidity• Conflicting guidelines
• Taking all (available) information into account
• Data is already acquired for other purposes
• Much data is kept
Disadvantages• Only data that is available• No controlled environment• Misuse of information fields
Usage of readily available health data has holds a huge promisefor better research at lower costs
24
Interviews PI’s
• Martijn Huisman (LASA, VUmc)• Karien Stronks (Helius, AMC)• Maarten Lindeboom (Health economics, VU)• Patrick Bossuyt (Epidemiology, AMC)• Andrea Maier (Gerontology, VUmc)• Jacqueline Dekker (Parelsnoer, VUmc)• Peter Reiss (HIV Monitoring, AMC)
Use of Real word evidence
25
Major issues for PI’s
• Efficiency• Costs of access to data• Duration of time to gain access to data• Long term follow up
• Privacy• Possibility of making combinations on individual level• Inclusion of groups that often do not participate
• Interpretation• Knowledge on interpretation and meaning• Real world outcomes instead of narrow cohorts like RCT’s• Implicit control groups
• New features• Clear view on current clinical practice• Large datasets help find subtle effect (healthcare has few “Lazarus”
effects)
Databases
• Vektis• DBC Onderhoud• Dutch Hospital Data• GIP Databank• SFK• LMR• Palga• Pharmo• CBS• Nivel• SB GGZ• …
• Telecom data• Luchtkwaliteit• SES• Weer• Gas, Water Licht• …

complicance issues are the real bottleneck
