It’s been 45 Years!As we graduated in 1967 we were told to explore our new horizons and we went off in 85different directions to do just that. Education, careers, marriages, kids, home mortgages,moves, divorces, and all the other life events would be pursued until there was no time orenergy left for exploration. Now that we are retired or nearly retired, we will be able toonce again explore our new horizons. But this time we’ll know more about ourselves andthe world, than we did 45 years ago.
We could dig out that old graduation speech that would read something like this: awhole new world lies before us, go forth and seek your fortune. But instead of havingyouth and a lifetime ahead of us, we are 63 years old. This time every day counts. Justas our graduation speech advised us to forge ahead….45 years later the advice stillstands. Why rest if you can learn something new? If you can go somewhere youhaven’t been? If you can meet someone you didn’t know? If you can taste somethingthat’s unfamiliar? If you can hear something that’s foreign to your ears?
We are fortunate that our class is close knit and we genuinely care for one another. Ourreunion is not just a ‘get together to see who’s fallen apart’ as we once chided, but it’s anaffirmation of ourselves, who we are and where we’ve come from. We may have goneoff in 85 different directions in 1967, but coming together once every 5 years allows usto see each other as ourselves. We each bring with us 45 years of diverse experiences, butas a group we still take joy in recollecting our high school days and recite old stories likeit was yesterday. Together, we celebrate our victories and mourn our losses. Our youthand frivolity may have passed, but our friendship, history, and spirit remains.
Enjoy! -- Sue Alft Kosharek - 2012

To Have SucceededTo laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent peopleAnd the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics
And endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty;To find the best in others; to give of one’s self;
To leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child,A garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation;To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived...
This is to have succeeded.Ralph Waldo Emerson

There are so many dumb things that I did it’s hard to narrow it won to one.Here’s one: On a boring Sunday afternoon of hanging out with Sue Lamb, sheasked me to trim her hair. I accidentally cut one side above her ears!When I was finished, she looked in the mirror and proceeded to make me sitdown while she did the same thing to MY hair! Most of the things I did in high school were pretty dumb. Back then, I thought itwas fun...and now, not so funny. One dumb thing that stands out in my mind is:My stepmom asked me to take the family car to the grocery store for milk. On theway back from the store, I purposely drove the car off road and began driving thefire lanes like this tank car was a four wheeler. Of course, I got the car stuck outin the middle of the sticks and had to walk several miles home and sheepishlyexplain to my parents where their car was. Judy Zolnik-Winkler

My only year in Nekoosa will always be full of fond memories. No one couldunderstand a word I said, because of my Southern accent. Any time but October is good. In Wyoming, October is hunting season.With my work and two weeks off for elk hunting, that pretty much takes careof the month. In five years, I shouldn’t have to worry about work, just the hunt-ing.

Maybe have everyone bring an item to have a silent auction or just a drawingto win something. Maybe use any money from the auction to purchase a treeor bench, etc. to go to the school in the name of the class of ‘67.
