GEORGIA’S INTERNATIONAL OFFICES

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Georgia’s international offices promote Georgia’s economic development interest abroad. Federal government does not promote individual state interests, the states set up offices aboard to develop and implement their state-specific economic development strategy, which is typically tailored to their target markets. Promote Georgia as: A reliable source for quality products and services; An excellent location for investment and a strategic gateway to the U.S. market; An outstanding tourism destination; A great location for film, video and music production. The amount of time Georgia int’l offices spend with these tasks vary depending on the primary purpose of the office. - Oldest Georgia Office: Japan (1973) - Most of these offices are contract arrangements / performance based, which allows flexibility in changes office locations - Tourism contractors in Germany and UK Considerations When Selecting International Office Locations for Trade: Growth pattern for importing U.S. products and, more specifically, Georgia products; Type of products being bought / type of products produced in Georgia; Future growth potential / Free Trade Agreement with U.S.; Often interested in developing markets due to growth potential and these frequently represent non-saturated markets;Where companies can be successful! FDI considerations: Size / strength of that counties economy; Current and historic U.S. investments and investment history in Georgia; Type of industries in that country and the industry fit for Georgia; Potential for quality job creation / high paying jobs; Existing and future ties between our regions / leveraging of resources; Typically developed economies with companies looking to expand into the U.S. market.
