Session Room 1Unlocking Digital Investments
An economically, financially and technologically integrated Africa will be driven by the 4th Industrial Revolution. Big data, digitization, algorithms, cloud computing, and artificial Intelligence, will create new markets, drive productivity and extend social welfare.
The continent currently benefits from a strong mix of connectivity infrastructure and a workforce that has largely grown up in a digital world. However, the region faces challenges of social inclusion, policies inconsistency, regulation, and a dearth of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics graduates, and as such, a shortage of critically needed skills.
For Africa to punch its weight as we move into the 4th Industrial Revolution critical changes and investments must be made to prepare the continent for a ‘future’ that is already here.

Session Room 1The African Financial Alliance on Climate Change: an innovative approachto impact investing and green financing
Fifty-one African countries have ratified the Paris Agreement. The commitments taken together present a US $3 trillion impact investment opportunity by 2030.
However impact investment in Africa lags behind other regions. Seventy-five percent of investments are expected to come from the private sector to complement public sector financing. Mobilizing financial resources for Africa’s development will therefore require greening the financial industry and a shift towards future-friendly impact investment.
The session will showcase innovative initiatives such as the African Development Bank’s African Financial Alliance on Climate Change which is greening Africa’s financial industry and stimulating impact investing in Africa. It will also focus on actions and policy measures to incentivize sustainable practices, encourage business to develop business models and risk management tools that ensure long-term sustainability.

Africa RoomThe goal of the Africa Investment Forum is to “tilt investment into Africa”. This must happen in tandem with a reshaping of the continent’s narrative and perceptions. Some of the common factors that influence investment decisions in Africa including policy consistency, transparency, governance, openness, fiscal discipline, and expansive access to public goods, among many other considerations.
Reshaping Africa’s narrative requires a holistic approach in which branding or rebranding for success must include proactive domestic and global buy-in from citizens and key stakeholders.
Africa is faced with tremendous challenges and opportunities. Strategic choices will determine perceptions and narratives around the African brand and the extent to which investment capital flows into the region.
