Principals Report

After a break over Easter, Wee Waa High School is back into a solid routine. We had a staff develop-ment day on Monday, followed by the return of the students on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, we held an assembly to commemo-rate Anzac Day. Highlights of this assembly in-cluded a talk by Rhiannon Baxter on the signifi-cance of Anzac Day and her experiences of grow-ing up as the daughter of a service man and Mr Pe-ter Carrett playing the Last Post and Reveille.

Georga Cruckshank and Ryan O’Neill will be at-tending the Secondary Schools Student Leadership Program in Sydney this week. Georga and Ryan will attend a day at NSW Parliament House and will have the opportunity to meet Professor Marie Bashir, Governor of NSW. Georga and Ryan will be accompanied by Mrs Grellman. A big thank you to Cotton Seed Distributors and Wee Waa High School P & C for their donations towards this trip.

In Week 3, Year 11 and 12 will be travelling to Sydney on an excursion to visit a number of post school educational institutions and broaden their experiences outside of Wee Waa.

Important events this term include the issue of Year 11 and 12 reports, the Parent Teacher Even-ing on Wednesday 21st May, the Stage 4 exams in Week 6 and the Stage 5 exams in Week 7.

Congratulations must go to the Open Girls Soccer side, with the big win over Moree Secondary College and the excellent behaviour of the Wee Waa High spectators. Congratulations also to the staff and students who represented the school with pride at the Community Anzac Day ceremony.

Ag Roundup

In the last week of Term 1, Years 9 and 10 Agriculture students went down to the lagoon for an afternoon of yabbying. Students were accompanied by Mrs Gett, Mr Schneider, the school chaplain Kate and Mrs Helen Wenner. Mrs Wenner was joined by some community members and cooked the students “ johnny cakes” on a campfire at the lagoon. Despite not catching any yabbies, the students had a great afternoon.

NB- Mrs Gett caught some yabbies at her home in the holidays so the school yabbie farm now hosts three yabbies .A number of babies have since hatched so our yabbie farm is beginning to be established!

On Saturday 26th April a number of students attended the Narrabri show with Mrs Gett to enter the Junior Cattle Judging competition. It was great to see so many students express interest in the show team turn up to an event in the holidays and do so well! 8 out of 10 attending got into the final- in their first ever competition, with Annabelle Russell and Maddison Galagher taking home 3rd and 4th position. Well done girls and well done to the entire Show team for a great effort!

The community continues to provide great support to Agriculture at Wee Waa High School, with the donation of a round bale of hay for the sheep to eat during the holidays by Michael Maxwell. Thank you Michael and family!

This term brings some more exciting activities for Agriculture with the first being the Wee Waa Show. The Show team will be practicing their skills in the cattle judging again. Hope to see you there!

Sport Report April - Wee Waa HS Vs Moree Secondary College – Open Girls Soccer.

On the 9th April Wee Waa hosted Moree Secondary College in the first round of the CHS open girl’s football (soccer) knockout. Wee Waa was fielding a very young side with most of the girls in years 7 and 8, and some girls never having played football before.

Both sides began nervously trying to find some rhythm with Moree having the best chance of the early period, missing a one on one shot with Wee Waa’s goal keeper, Aleisha Middleton. After absorbing pressure Wee Waa broke through for the opening goal after 15 minutes with Teagan Conomos capitalising on a Moree mistake. Wee Waa scored their second goal for the match after a great hustle play from Amelia Cruickshank allowed Teagan Conomos to score her second goal on a counter attack.

In the second half, Wee Waa controlled much of the possession and positional changes from Moree, defending strongly, not allowing many chances on goal. With Moree pressing forward, this gave Teagan Conomos the opportunity to score her third goal of the match, with Wee Waa running out 3-0 victors.

It’s hard to single out any individual that was exceptional as it was a great team performance. Teagan Conomos and Emily Shearin were great up front. Valerie Booby and Tayla Gilmore played the entire match in midfield, often covering the whole field. Amelia Cruickshank and Olivia Gilgorevic were also strong at the back all game.

Regional Winter Trials @ Coonabarabran

On Friday 2nd April, 9 students travelled to Coonabarabran to take part in the regional winter trials for rugby league, football and netball. After a series of skill activities as well as games against other zones some of students were selected for possible Vs probable matches for their chosen sport.

I would like to congratulate all the students for representing their school and zone with pride and passion, and give a big well done to Sam Sadler who was selected to represent North-West in open rugby league and will participate in a Greater Western trial at Gilgandra on 2nd May for the chance to compete at the NSW CHS rugby league carnival at Toronto later in Term 2.

Wee Waa High School Athletics Carnival

Dear Parents,

This is just a reminder that our annual athletics carnival will be held on Friday 23rd May.

This is an important part of the schools sporting calendar and is great day for all students, staff and parents that are involved.

It is important to remind your child that in order to be considered for further representative opportunities; I have to go off their carnival performance (unless the athlete has some other official result from another competition/organisation). This means that your child must take this carnival seriously, especially the events they wish to be considered for.

Also I am asking if any parents or community members are available to assist on the day as we will have limited staff available on the day due to other unavoidable commitments.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, especially to assist with time keeping of races. Or if you have experience in being a starter and are able to help at any part of the day, we would be extremely grateful.

If you are able to help in any capacity on the day or have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Yours Sincerely,

Patrick Legge – Sport Co-ordinator

Attention Year 12 students and parents The 2014 HSC Written Examination Timetable now available online The 2014 HSC examination timetable is now available for viewing in PDF format on the BOSTES website. HSC students can already view their personal timetable via their Students Online account, and schools can view their school-specific timetable in Schools Online > My Reports > Written Examinations > Written Examination Summary. Schools are requested to ensure that HSC students check their examination timetable to ensure that all their examinations appear correctly. This applies particularly to the VET examinations. Remember that students who wish to sit for a VET examination must be entered in the examination as well as in the 240-hour VET Framework course. The VET examinations have a different course number to the 240-hour course. Please note that the school is also receiving advertisements for HSC study days in Dubbo and Singleton. Rather than traveling to these, we invite students to view the HSC lectures on line at the University of Newcastle website. If interested in arranging a time to view these , please see Mr Schneider or Mrs Grellman. As an HSC Marker, Mrs Grellman is also able to run a session for students.
