OLD EARTH CREATION

Old Earth Creation (Progressive)Definition

• God supernaturally created the universe and life upon the earth but over a long period of time.


• Genesis 1-3 is a literal account of God’s creation. • God miraculously created the universe from nothing

(ex nihilo).• God created life from non-life, and progressively

intervened in history to supernaturally create new species of life.

• After God created the “heavens and the earth,” He created life over six successive “days,” which in Hebrew may be literally interpreted as six distinct periods of time.


• God miraculously created Adam and Eve, humanity’s historical parents.

• Earth’s geologic features formed over long ages through both gradual and catastrophic processes.

• The age of the earth has no bearing on the creation of life and an old earth does not equate with Darwinian evolution.

• When the Bible and general revelation conflict we must re-examine both the data and our interpretation of the Bible.

• If the Bible is clear, we must go with God’s word.
