Post: Handyperson Team Leader
Responsible to: Operations Manager
Responsible for: HandypersonsVolunteers
Key Relationships: Other services within Age UK Wigan Borough
Salary: £9,256 per annum/£8.90 per hour

Purpose of this Post
To co-ordinate and develop a handyperson service for older and disabled people in Wigan Borough and their carers.
Main Responsibilities of this Post
To co-ordinate the handyperson service, ensuring high standards of service.
To ensure that the service meets its contractual obligations with Wigan Council.
To provide professional support to volunteers and to allocate work and supervise
Handypersons on the team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. To be responsible for the efficient running of the Handyperson service, including
allocating work to the Handypersons to ensure best use of time.Recruitment & Selection ProceduresMarch 09 Version 6 April 2017

2. To supervise the staff on the handyperson team, including doing regular
Performance Reviews, an annual Performance Evaluation, ensuring training
requirements are up to date and holding regular team meetings.
3. To ensure that the service is of a high quality and oversee quality monitoring
systems, including undertaking spot checks, satisfaction surveys and service
user group meetings.
4. To supervise and direct volunteers within the service who work both in an
administrative function and to assist the Handypersons, including undertaking
annual reviews.
5. To ensure that appropriate monitoring systems are set up and accurate records
are kept using our Charitylog database. To provide reports as requested,
including monthly statistical information to the Operations Manager, case studies
and reports to funders.
6. To monitor the service outputs to ensure that it is meeting its contractual
obligations, including prioritising those being discharged from hospital. To design
action plans to address any deficits on outputs.
7. To ensure that appropriate financial records are kept of payments made, income
is monitored and a clear system operates for those that are entitled to the service
for free.
8. To ensure that vans are checked on a daily basis and van packs are up to date
(these include MOT testing, tax, servicing etc.). To alert the Operations Manager
of any problems.
9. To ensure the maintenance of a good stock control system and that best value
products are sourced for materials.
10.To take a holistic approach when working with older people and refer/signpost
individuals to other agencies and Age UK Wigan Borough services as
appropriate.
11.To ensure that the service works with a wide range of people from different
backgrounds and that sufficient marketing and plans are in place to attract the
necessary outputs in the worst performing 20% most deprived Lower Super
Output areas.

12.To support the organisation to fulfil its responsibilities under Health and Safety
and ensuring that the Handyperson service meets H&S requirements. You may
be asked to take on roles such as First Aider, Health and Safety representative
or Fire Marshall for which appropriate training will be given.
13.To support students on placements. This may include having students that
shadow your work or performing a supervisory role. Appropriate training will be
given.
14.To participate in Age UK Wigan Borough promotional events as required.
15.To work within all the guidelines, policies and procedures as set out by Age UK
Wigan Borough.
16.To attend Induction, Training and any Staff Meetings as and when required.
17.To carry out any other duties as may be requested which are consistent with the
duties and responsibilities of the post.
