Photographer / Photoshop Wizard / Sketch Artist Came into photography aspect of the Biz by way of working as Professional

Model...

Been Shooting for Ten years... got into via, being in front of the camera for so

long

it was just a natural progression... have mastered the concept of getting 'The

Shot'

under any conditions....

My strength is taking the subjects attributes and making them marketable to

the industry...

I've gotten several Models signed with agencies by (shooting) producing a port-

folio

that meets that standard.... by working as a model, I know and can produce ex-

actly

what they're looking for....

I get offers often from various magazines or promo companies to purchase or

barter images I've produced. But with only few exceptions I prefer to remain

exclusive to my name and my clients....

Castings

Show and event production experience has afforded me the ability

to run effective casting.... casting, and the understanding of how to

structure a casting and what to look for in a model will always make

The artificial pancreas is getting closer to reality. Many type 1 patients wear insulin pumps, which monitor blood sugar and elimi-

nate the need for injections. But you still have to decide how much insulin to inject via the pump, and it’s not easy: Some people try to

keep their blood sugar from dropping too low (which can cause seizures and even death) by letting their blood sugar run high (which can

lead to problems like nerve damage and blindness). The so-called artificial pancreas would change that by continuously monitoring blood

sugar levels and automatically injecting the appropriate amount of insulin, says Aaron Kowalski, MD , PhD, research director of the Artifi-

cial Pancreas Project for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Thanks to recent successful trials, it’s now being tested at hospitals

across the country. Learn more at artificialpancreasproject. com.

The number of Americans with diabetes is skyrocketing: 24 million now have it, and 57 million are pre-diabetic.

While tackling the obesity epidemic is one key to reversing this alarming trend, advances in screening and treatment

are helping us get a handle on it.

What You Need to Know About Diabetes Get the latest research regarding the best screening times, treatment options and more

By Jacqueline M. Duda

Getting screened is easier than ever. Doctors used to rely on a fasting blood glucose test (which meant no eating

for at least 8 hours) or a glucose tolerance test (which takes at least two hours and involves gulping down a terrible-

tasting sugary drink). Blood sugar levels of 126 mg/dL or higher on either of these tests means you have diabetes. Photo:

Anthony-Masterson/Getty Images

But now there’s the A1C screening—a blood test that requires no fasting and gives a snapshot of your blood sugar

levels over the previous 3 months. Doctors used to give the A1C only to people already diagnosed with diabetes to assess how they

were managing the condition, says Richard M. Bergenstal, MD , president of medicine and science for the American Diabetes Association

(ADA). However, earlier this year the ADA started recommending it to help with diagnosis because it’s so convenient and reliable. In

fact, it’s better at catching pre-diabetes than a fasting blood test, since it’s less affected by short-term changes in diet and exercise.

Newer meds can help patients lose weight. Ironically, some of the drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes cause weight gain, which only

perpetuates the problem. But in the past five years several diabetes drugs have hit the market that promote weight loss, or at least prevent

weight gain. These medications, including Byetta and Januvia, target hormones that help lower your blood sugar levels when they’re too

high, and may reduce your appetite. They tend to be most effective when you take them during the early stages of the disease or use them

in combo with other diabetes medications.

Who Should Get Screened?

Starting at age 45, everyone should get tested for type 2 diabetes. But ask your doctor whether you need to be screened earlier if one or

more of these risk factors applies to you:

• A family history of diabetes

• Inactivity

• Excess weight/obesity (a BM I of 25 or higher)

• HDL or “good” cholesterol under 35 mg/dL

• High blood pressure (140/90 mmHg or above)

• High triglycerides (over 200 mg/dL)

• Gestational diabetes during pregnancy

• Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

Until recently, everyone with diabetes was put into one of two categories. You either had type 1, an autoimmune condition in which your

body doesn’t produce insulin, a hormone that helps you use blood sugar, or you had type 2, the most common form, usually found in

adults who tend to be overweight. But as many as 10 percent of people originally diagnosed with type 2 actually have a hybrid form, ac-

cording to research from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. People with this condition, called type 1.5

or double diabetes, are insulin-resistant like type 2 diabetics (meaning the body can’t properly use the insulin it produces), but they also

have antibodies that show the body is attacking the pancreas (a sign of type 1), says Jerry Palmer, MD, director of the Diabetes Endocrinol-

ogy Research Center at the University of Washington in Seattle. Photo: Thinkstock

If you’ve been diagnosed with type 2 but have an immediate family member with type 1, are thin, or are having trouble controlling your dia-

betes with oral meds, ask your doctor if you should be tested for type 1.5 (with a blood test). If you have it, your doctor may recommend

starting you on insulin.

“Just because you

buy natural hair

care products

does not mean

you have to cut

your hair and

grow a mini afro ”

Grow Beautiful Afro-Latino Hair Afro-KeraCare produces quality prod-

ucts for African American hair, especially

if you have an itchy scalp from braids or

hair weaves. However, their shampoos

and conditioners tend to sometimes

leave black

hair dry and brittle, unless it is there

detangling shampoo. As a result, al-

though their products will help your

scalp, they will leave your hair looking

like you did it yourself. If you have a

relaxer or chemically treated hair, and

are use to using products like Elasta QP,

Motions, or TCB, then it is long over

due to make the switch to all natural

hair care products.

Just because you buy natural hair care

products does not mean you have to cut

your hair and grow a mini afro or get

dreads. You don't need natural hair!

There are several benefits of using all-

natural hair

care products, especially if you have

relaxed hair. One of the best all-natural

products on the market is Beauty 4

Ashes GodHead(tm) Silky Smooth Sys-

tem for Ethnic Hair. The shampoo and

conditioner in the system are loaded

with vitamins and natural oils that will

not leave your hair dry like KeraCare,

but instead will

hydrate your follicles and nourish your

roots. You can even use products like

GodHead(tm) Max Moisture and Gro

System to lengthen your hair and extend

times between getting relaxers. You can

find their

products at www.discoverb4acom

Here are the top five Hair Care Tips for

Black Hair according to Hollywood's

Celebrity Stylist Michelle Vincent. Holly-

wood Stylist

Tip# 1 for Black Hair: Stop usually low

grade hair care products that contain

sulfates: Even if you get a perm or wear

weaves, your hair needs the most nutri-

ents that it can receive between salon

visits.

Tip# 2 for Black Hair: Buy all natural

hair care products, most natural stores

carry Jason's or Aubrey Organics

Shampoos or you can by Beauty 4 Ashes

online.

Tip# 3 for Black Hair: Take care of your

hair from home. You can do it!

Wrap or roll your hair before

bed. Don't just

sleep on it without a protective

covering, which can lead to split

ends and result in YOU getting

your hair CUT.

Tip# 4 for Black Hair: Drink

plenty of water and

reduce your intake of junk foods.

Take a B Complex on a daily ba-

sis.

Tip# 5 for Black Hair: Buy Silk

pillow cases and

hair wraps. Avoid cotton, it can

lead to hair breakage

Latino-Latino hair is unlike any

other, and can be very difficult to

deal with. If you are Latino then

you surely understand this, and

most likely are frustrated at the

lack of Latino hair care products

that are presently available on the

market. f you are interested in

finding Latino hair care products,

products that are going to beau-

tify your hair and help you to styl-

ize it the way that you want, there

are a few companies and products

in particular you are going to

want to try out.

Activate Beauty is one company

that offers Latino hair care prod-

ucts. These products are the re-

sult of rigorous and extensive

research and they are enriched

with elements like Hydro-Infused

complex, which is a unique mois-

turizing blend that was developed

exclusively for Activate Beauty. It

consists of salon-formula premium

ingredients such as Sea Grape,

White Water Lily, Avocado Oil,

Vitamin E, and soy protein.

Finesse is one of the most well

known and reputable names in

the hair care industry. Unbe-

knownst to many, the Finesse hair

care line offers some terrific La-

tino hair care products. They un-

derstand how hard it can be to

tame Latino hair and want to help

Latinos, both men and women, to

achieve the hair they desire.

Their products are also very af-

fordable which is nice because of

course when a product runs out

you are going to have to buy

more of it and so you want to

make sure that these are prices

you can afford.

TipsOther than using the right

Latino hair care products, there

are also a few tips that will be

helpful to you here. One is to

avoid over-conditioning your hair

because Latino hair tends to get

oily rather quickly, so you do not

want to leave it with a lot of

build-up. It is important if you

have a special hair type that you

take proper care of it, and that

you use the right products.

Latino hair can be very difficult to

deal with and although there is

still very little to choose from

especially compared to the other

selections for other hair types,

but there are still things you can

do and there are always new

products being released on the

market so keep your eyes open.

Latino hair can be really beautiful

if you take care of it and use the

right products, so make sure that

you do this.

Carbon monoxide is silent killer

Just Jokes

An old man had a dog he just loved but the dog had the bad

habit of attacking anything that moved including people. His

friends told him that if he had the dog fixed he would lose

his aggressions and quit this behavior.

So the old man had his dog fixed and a few days later was in

his front room when the mailman came up the steps. The dog

jumped up and went right thru the screen door and attacked

the mailman. The old man ran out and pulled his dog off and

began apologizing to the mailman.

He said, "I am so sorry, I don't know what to do or say. My

friends told me he would quit attacking people if I had him

fixed. I just don't know what to do."

The mailman picked himself up and said, "You should have

had his teeth pulled, I knew when he came out the door he

wasn't going to screw me."

Wine DOES NOT make

you FAT It makes you LEAN...

. . .against tables, chairs,

floors, walls and ugly people.

The start of the heating season is the most likely time

that a malfunctioning furnace could spread deadly carbon

monoxide through your house, especially if the oil burner

hasn't recently been serviced.

Carbon monoxide safety is particularly important during the winter when windows and doors are tightly closed.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and poisonous

gas that results from the incomplete burning of fuels such

as wood, charcoal, gasoline, kerosene, oil, natural gas or

propane.

Symptoms

Headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizzi-

ness.

Signs of carbon monoxide

Condensation on walls and windows.

House plants dying.

House pets becoming sluggish.

Chronic odors from a malfunctioning appliance.

Flulike symptoms or unusual fatigue in humans.

What to do

Carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal. Get victims to

fresh air and medical attention.

Prevention

Have appliances installed by a qualified technician.

Have the heating system, including chimneys and vents,

inspected and serviced.

Install a carbon monoxide detector on each floor, espe-

cially in the bedrooms.

Check detectors at the beginning of each heating season.

Change or clean furnace filters regularly.

Keep interior and exterior air vents clear of blockages.
