Compassion’s work in Central America and the CaribbeanCompassion first opened child development centers in this region in 1968. Since then our ministry has expanded to include six more countries in Central America and the Caribbean and now serves over 250,000 children through more than 1,365 church-based projects. Compassion currently works in: the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua.

The region is known for its stunning scenery with rugged mountains, active volcanoes, tropical rain forests and palm-lined beaches. However, many countries still struggle to cope with corruption, poverty, debt and conflict.

With more than 3.9 billion inhabitants, roughly three-fifths of the world’s total population live in this region, which is as culturally and geographically diverse as it is vast.
