INTRODUCTION
AMPI is a policy framework for African AFI members to enhancefinancial inclusion through Mobile Financial Services (MFS) acrossAfrica.
Official launch in Zanzibar, Tanzania on 15th February 2013 by 18African Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) members whocommitted to Zanzibar Declaration on advancement of MFS in Africa.
Main objective is to enhance financial inclusion in Africa through :-> Determining effective policy solutions to advance MFS in Africa;> Providing a peer learning platform for the initiative’s members, and> Facilitating high-level discussions among key players in the MFS
ecosystem - comparative research and case studies, knowledgeexchange visits and technical workshops.

Key Activities Organisational set up of AMPI Help Desk including establishment of virtual help desk and
website portal.
Conducting of comprehensive needs assessment to determine the needs and appropriate assistance to provide to member countries at different levels of MFS development.
Establishment of information database to enhance knowledge and information sharing amongst policymakers and related players on Mobile Financial Services (MFS).
Facilitating of capacity building initiatives to enhance peer learning on MFS. This will be achieved through face to face meetings, regional workshops and knowledge exchange programs among member institutions.
Working with the stakeholders to formulate MFS policies, products, rules and regulations to broaden financial inclusion amongst the financially excluded.
Share emerging lessons from AMPI with the wider membership of the AFI Network.

Setting up of the Help Desk and Organisational Set up
Establishment of six regional help desks (Eastern, Central, Southern, WAEMU andWAMZ) and AMPI focal point in AFI

AMPI members Capacity Building Inaugural Face-to-face meeting of the AMPI Help Desk meeting, 9th July 2013.
Discussed the operationalisation of the Help Desk - guidelines, working rules and activities of the workplan.
Participation in the GSMA 5th Mobile Money for Unbanked Leadership Forum in Nairobi, 10th –11th July 2013.
Promoted understanding between all key mobile money stakeholders on the policy and criticalregulatory issues surrounding digital financial inclusion.
Knowledge exchange visits to mobile financial services agents
AMPI Public- Private Sector AMPI Session, 11th July 2013
Reflected on the challenges and opportunities for MFS across Africa and ways that AMPImembers and the private sector can mutually create inclusive financial systems and cash-liteeconomies.
Receiving and Responding to members specific needs on MFS related issues as and when they arise – Requests received from Central Bank of Sierra Leone and Central Bank of Republic of Guinea.

• The AMPI Help Desk is a virtual network secretariat which role is to undertake the technical coordination of AMPI activities towards the achievements of its objectives and goals.
• The AFI Management Unit coordinates and provides support to the activities of the Help Desk.
• The Help Desk receives additional support from policymakers and regulators, members of AFI, as needed
