Industrial Cadets is an accredited work experience programme for young people, supported by the Engineering Development Trust (EDT). The silver level award requires a minimum of 30 hours of activities. For more information, visit https://www.industrialcadets.org.uk/experience/silver-award

Affinity Water will be hosting the Industrial Cadets silver award programme to provide young people (aged 14-18) with the opportunity to understand:

how the UK water industry works the wide range of professions and skills needed within the UK water industry some of the challenges the UK water industry faces (and possible solutions)

Meeting different departments from around the company to understand how the UK water industry works, the type of work that different teams at Affinity Water do and the different professions within the industry

Taking part in various team building activities Taking part in a range of interactive activities about where our water comes from,

how it gets from source to tap and some of the issues the UK water industry faces Visits to a water treatment facility and other Affinity Water sites. Please be aware that

some of these are operational and industrial sites and personal protective equipment is therefore mandatory in some places - this will be provided where it is required

Working in a team to complete a short project, which addresses a real problem faced by the UK water industry. This will focus on water conservation and water resource management

Presenting the team’s project findings to a panel from the senior management team at Affinity Water

A short graduation ceremony and celebration event, where certificates will be presented.

Some of the activities will take place outdoors, involve very light physical activity, and/or involve walking up and down stairs (in some of the operational and industrial sites we will be visiting, only stairs are available for access and egress).

To wear personal protective equipment at all times when instructed. This will be provided by Affinity Water where necessary (e.g. on operational and industrial sites)

To wear suitable clothing during other activities e.g. sturdy shoes such as trainers or walking boots, warm and waterproof clothing when working outdoors etc.

Team throughout the week. The team are DBS checked, Safeguarding trained and First Aid trained. Affinity Water reserves the right to withdraw a participant from the course if appropriate behaviours, attendance, safety instructions and/or other protocols are not observed.

connects you with employers and other cadets, provides you with further enrichment, advice and information about access to job opportunities, events and further training

Affinity Water will pay for the cost and fees associated with the Industrial Cadet Silver Award. There is therefore no cost to participants to enter the programme. Please note that this is an unpaid position and individuals are expected to pay for their own travel and lunch / food requirements each day.
