You Are the Public Face

• Courteous and attentive• Understand the medical domain• You represent– Your sponsors– IHE– Yourself



Responsibility 1

• Manage a well-planned Connectathon• Provide written instructions in advance• Do not assume they can read your mind

• This is new to them• Participants are wary because they have

never been elbow to elbow with competitors



You Are a Mediator

• Registration• Communication / Documentation• Configuration, including network• Code Sets / Data Sets / Digital Certificates• Test interpretation / grading• Monitor training / leadership• Final results publication



Responsibility 3.1

• Use only existing tests?• Write your own tests (IHE-RO)• Some combination?

• Provide feedback to test authors to improve the tests



Responsibility 4

• You are the go-to person for interpreting the Technical Framework

• You need to understand all of the profiles tested, or– Have one or more secondary Project Managers

• You need to have documentation ready– Profiles– Referenced standards



Process

• You are responsible for following the existing IHE process

• You need to be fair and unbiased• You need to help participants succeed

without giving them a free pass



Skills: Technical Understanding• Understand the Integration Profiles• Debugging Skills– Able to examine log files to see results or look for

bugs– Able to examine log files to check for correctness

of implementation– Help participants who only know that it does not

work



Network

• Work with a network engineer to design the test network

• Understand routers, firewalls• Understand network software– Participants will invariably say: My application

does not work– They really mean: I cannot connect to a peer– But, they connected and failed to get a response



Network Examples

• “I cannot connect to port 2600 on the ACME workstation”– How do you verify with just your laptop?

• “Someone stole the IP address you gave me”– What do you do?

• This is a hands-on position• Do not delegate tasks to participants that are

needed by you or other participants• You do not need to know how to do

everything– How do I configure a router using NAT?

• You do need to identify adequate support
