How we personally define ‘art’.

IN YOUR JOURNAL:

List five movies you enjoy watching.

Example:1. Om Shanti Om

Then write a description for each in an adjoining column. (It does not have to be complete sentences)

A ‘junior artist’ actor with unrequited love dies tragically but is reincarnated to set everything right and create a happy ending.

NOW..

Go through your list and circle things in your descriptions that are similar: comedy, love story, Antonio Banderas…whatever is in common with two or more, make a note.

Think about other movies you like. What is the unifying theme? What is true for all of them? Ask yourself things like: do they go on a journey or quest? Do they all have pageantry or action sequences? What sort of love story happens in each?

Hate or despise, list those movies in your journal! Tell me why you hate it so. Be bold and descriptive! Draw a picture, if you like. Just give me reasons why it is awful and shouldn’t ever be considered as film ‘art.’

She will revise her aesthetic, giving it more details so that it can include things she doesn’t like, but exclude what she feels isn’t a ‘real’ movie.
