AES Basics

• AES - Automated Export System• electronic way to file the Shipper's

Export Declaration (SED) information directly to U.S. Customs

• Includes destination, value, Schedule B number, weight, ECCN, AWB #

• Can file using AESDirect (self-filer) or request forwarder/courier to file on your behalf

AES Compliance

•Currently no written procedure

•No matter who files, YOU are still responsible for the filing!

•It is essential to know the exporters in your company, and their level of export competency


Shipping methods

•Have close relationship with a single freight forwarder

•Know your local UPS and FedEx representatives

•Courier services require 2-4 hours to provide AES ITN (internal transaction number) if you request manually
