Congestion on airports and limited space on ramp as well as the need to reduce operation costs at a minimum called for the USE OF
A NARROW LOADER TRANSPORTER WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
THE LAM 3500 DP/M8 CAN :
• transfer baggage and cargo containers or pallets (max.60.4" wide) to the front and rear lower deck compartments of Boeing
B767 and Airbus A319, A320 aircraft.
• transfer baggage and cargo containers/pallets to the rear lower deck compartments of DC10, MD11, L1011, A300, A310 aircraft.
• receive independantly on the front platform one AKH container or LD1, LD2, LD3.
• receive on the rear platform 2 special AKH containers or 2 standard containers LD1, LD2, LD3 or 1 container LD4, LD6, LD8,
LD11 or standard aircraft pallet up to 1540mm * 3175mm (60.4" * 125").
• transfer containers or pallets to the aircraft at transfer heights from approximatively 1.865 m to 3.365 m (73.5" * 132.5").
• receive and discharge loads from ground vehicles at a height of 508mm (20 in.), with a minimum height of 480 mm (19 in.) and a

SHIPPING
The LAM 3500 DP/-8 is the only Cargo Loader transporter to be shipped in Standard 40’’ container (type HIGH CUBE).
This exceptional capability is a guarantee for our customers to have the shortest delivery time available (in comparison with
conventional boat transit time) as well as the most secure shipping method - Loader transporter is protected against chocs.
Furthermore, a container is the best protection against corrosive sea environnement : paraffin/ oil protection is unuseful and end user
will enjoy a PERFECT AND CLEAN EQUIPMENT IMMEDIATELY. Long and COSTLY CLEANING of the Loader
transporter at arrival IS NOT ANYMORE NECESSARY.
All useful matter is supplied to unload Cargo Loader transporter from the container - a five minutes job : procedure and wood ramps
to drive out the container.

MAIN OPERATIONAL FEATURES
1- POSITIONING
The extra length of double deck arrangement
(total length 8130 mm - 320") avoids any
difficult manoeuvrings to bring the dollies
close to the loader transporter (contrary to a
single platform loader transporter).
The LAM 3500 is a very narrow loader
transporter (overall width is only 2950 mm -
116") 600 to 800 mm less than standard lower
lobe loader transporter. This leaves sufficient
space on each side for other ground
equipment.
Fully controllable slow approach to the
aircraft to facilitate proper alignment thanks to
hydrostatic slow down (hydraulic gear type
pump) and a steering angle of +/- 45° of the
front wheel thanks to the orbitrol steering
system.
With the hydrostatic transmission the driver
needs only to control the throttle pedal.
Once he releases the pedal the loader
transporter stops. It offers a perfect inching.

The telescopic handrails and the telescopic floor extension of the driving station (with folding flaps) ensure the maximum safety
for the operator when walking to and from the aircraft compartment.
The front bridge is fitted with rubber bumpers (shoot the gap capability).

Fast and easy load transfer between bridge and rear platform due to :

which slow down the platform's elevation

perfectly mated transfer surface at any
time.

Trouble free transfer of loads between loader
transporter and dollies due to :
• loading/unloading from ground vehicles at a height of 508 mm (20") with a minimum height
of 480 mm (19").
• powered wheel located at the very rear part of the rear platform.
• additional free rollers at the rear edge of the rear platform.
• enlarged entry of the fixed side guide for easy positioning of the dollies.

Powered wheel transfer modules :

incorporated on the bridge in such a way that no dead
spot can exist whatever the type of container being
moved (this speed is similar to the transfer speed of
the powered decks of the various aircraft).
The longitudinal driving system includes :

The operating station is situated on the right hand side
of the loader transporter and features all the operational
and driving controls of the loader transporter.
It is composed of two series of controls : operating

Stops on the rear platform :

REAR PLATFORM - POWERED SIDE LOADING AND CONTAINER ROTATION LAM 3500 DP/R8
Galvanised steel rollers (each directly powered by its own
hydraulic motor) are fitted on the sides of platform rear part.
Two rubberized wheels are mounted perpendicularly to the transfer
system. Each wheel is directly powered by its own hydraulic motor and
can rotate both ways. They are used for side loading operations as well as
container rotation (in such a case the wheels rotate opposite ways).

The side guides are retracted by hydraulic cylinders. They are independantly controlled from the operator's station with a specific
position controlling the retraction of both guides at the same time for container rotation.

REAR PLATFORM - REAR LOADING ONLY WITH POWERED CONTAINER ROTATION LAM 3500 DP/RF8
Two rubberized wheels mounted perpendicularly to the transfer
system enables the rotation of one AKH container on the rear part of
the platform even with one AKH container already on the platform.
The fixed side guides are modified to allow a safe rotation of the
container. Steel balls are added to prevent the tendancy of
unbalanced container to slightly drop when rotated.
The container rotation is easily controlled by a single
independant lever on the driving post.

LIFTING MECHANISM
BRIDGE LIFTING MECHANISM :
♦ nominal capacity 3500 kg
♦ this includes a scissor-type mechanism
powered by two single action cylinders fitted
with pilot operated check valves.
♦ it is articulated on friction rings at the front
and center. At the rear, it moves on rollers
mounted on sealed bearings. The pivot points
are fitted with grease fittings.
PLATFORM LIFTING MECHANISM :
♦ nominal capacity 3500 kg
♦ includes a scissor-type mechanism powered
by tree single action cylinders. Two main
cylinders placed between the scissor arms and
one lifting cylinder acting directly on the
platform to lift it to a height of approx. 920
mm (36") (this cylinder will also act as a
damper during the final stage of the platform
descent).
♦ the main cylinders are fitted with pilot
operated check valves ensuring that the
platform can remain locked even in a case of
hydraulic piping failure.
♦ the scissors-type lifting mechanism is
articulated on bronze friction rings at the front
and center. It rolls on rollers mounted on
sealed bearings at the rear. The pivot points
are fitted with grease fittings.
Automatic follow-up to any adjustment in bridge
level.
The LAM3500 offers a perfect transfer surface
between bridge and platform at any moment.
When the aircraft level goes up the operator needs
only to adjust the bridge level, the rear platform will
automatically follow.
When the aircraft level drops it is not necessary to
lower the rear platform prior to lower the bridge level.
The bridge lowering will automatically lower the rear
platform at the same time.
A sensor fitted on the bridge will slow down the
raising speed of the rear platform, immediatly prior to
contact the rear platform with the rear of the bridge,
and then stops it.

STANDARD CONFIGURATION
CHASSIS - STABILIZERS - WHEEL BRAKES
The main frame is a one piece welded assembly
entirely designed and manufactured by AIR
MARREL using CAD-CAM technology to obtain the
most rigourous stress characteristics.
STABILISERS :
The chassis is equipped with two hydraulic stabilizers
at the front which ensure a perfect rigidity during
loading/unloading operations. These two stabilizers
are spring retractable type for fast emergency
procedure.
WHEELS AND TYRES :
♦ front moto-director axle : 1 tyre D20X (10 bars).
♦ rear axle : 2 tyres 400 x 150
The transmission is of the hydrostatic type. The front
wheel is fitted in its center with a compact reduction
gear motorbrake assembly enabling excellent speed
control and precise approach to aircraft doorsill.
The +/- 45° steering angle is achieved on a ball
bearing wheel gear. It is controlled by a double acting
hydraulic cylinder which is controlled from the
operating station by an orbitrol type powered steering
system.

BRAKING SYSTEM
DOUBLE HYDRAULIC BRAKING :
♦ hydrostatic : as soon as the throttle pedal is released, the loader transporter transporter brakes.
♦ safety disk brake by pressure drop can be used to give additional braking power during operations and will provide braking even
in case of hydraulic failure.
♦ maximum stopping distance at full speed : less than 5 m.
♦ the loader transporter can be stopped by pushing the emergency stops on operator's station panel or on main switch board.
♦ parking brake not required with the hydraulic transmission. Additional automatic parking brake can be installed at extra cost
(actived as soon as the pressure drops in the hydraulic circuit).

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM STANDARD CONFIGURATION
Main hydraulic pump : gear pump type with
two stages 25 and 8 cm3/rv, 200 and 150 bar,
directly driven by the Diesel engine through
flexible coupling.
The 8 cm3/rv stage is used for hydrostatic
steering.
Because Marrel is well known over the World
for its design and manufacture of hydraulic
components a special care has been given to
the hydraulic system of the LAM 3500 :
♦ piping has been designed according to
CAD-CAM technology. Whenever
possible rigid pipes have been used. The
lay-out of all hydraulic lines offers a
unique feature of MARREL knowledge.
♦ all solenoid valves have been gathered on
easy accessible banks (AIR MARREL has
used the technology for more than ten
years).
♦ hydraulic motors are directly coupled to
transfer wheels and rollers which offers a
chain-less load transfer system.
- hydraulic pressure test points are
provided for easy tracking of hydraulic
pressure.
Flow control valves regulate the rate of
lowering of platform and bridge under all
conditions. The no-return piloted valves
prevent any rapid uncontrolled descent due to
rupture of hydraulic lines of the lifting rams
(in case of rupture of hydraulic lines or engine
breakdown, the rams remain in position).
The hydraulic translation motor is controlled
by a solenoid valve.
The extention of stabilizers stops the loader
transporter travel.
All hydraulic circuits are protected with
pressure limitation valves.
All control valves are solenoid operated.

MAIN SAFETIES
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES The LAM 3500 complies with AFNOR, BNA, IATA, ISO and UTE specifications and all predelivery tests are run with the
following ratios :
• static 1.33

LAM 3500 :
• can withstand winds up to 120 km/h.
• operates within a temperature range of -15°C to +50°C and in humid conditions.
• mechanical locking systems enables to work safely under the bridge and the platform.
• hydraulic and electrical systems have been designed to give maximum safety to the end user.
• movements are controlled by solenoid valves.
• hydraulic movements (except loader transporter driving) require the energizing of both the solenoid valve controlling the
movement and the by-pass valve (double safety).
• emergency cut-off switches, accessible from the driving station and at ground level stop the loader transporter movements by
cutting the electrical circuit (controlling the movement), de-energizing the by-pass valve and shutting down the engine.
• pressure switch detects that the stabilizers are extented before introducing loads on the platform.
• stabilizers can only be retracted when the platform is in low position, this in turn allowing the loader transporter to be driven.
• bridge and platform stabilization/elevation cylinders are fitted with piloted check valves locking the cylinder in position. These
valves are installed directly on the cylinders and will prevent any uncontrolled movements of the rams. In case of hydraulic failure
or engine breakdown, the hydraulic cylinders will remain in position.
• hydraulic translation engine is controlled by a solenoid valve.
• The extension of the stabilizers stops the loader transporter travel
• flow control valves regulate the rate of lowering of the bridge and platform.
• is fitted with simplified emergency procedures by independant manual release-valves and spring retractable stabilizers. In case of
electrical system failure the manual controls of solenoid valves enable operations to be carried out. The tool kit includes two
plungers enabling the solenoid valve control spools to be actived without damage.

STANDARD CONFIGURATION
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
There is a single electric box at ground level, easily accessible.
The electric system is composed with 4 printed circuit boards on which relays and other electrical components are welded. Thanks to
the printed circuit boards and oversized components a maximum reliability is obtained.
Trouble shooting is facilitated thanks to LEDs positioned on both the printed circuit boards and the solenoid valves.
The replacement of a printed circuit board is very easy, rapid, economical and all the Air Marrel loader transporters are equipped with
the same printed circuit boards (except LAM 27000).
