The effort of the program is to accede the goals for conservation of biodiversity set in the Natura 2000 Bird and Habitats directives for areas that are vulnerable for nitrogen deposition. Creating legislation to control the load of emied nitrogen and thus deposition within Natura 2000 areas as well as measures for ecological restoration, will enable sustainable economic and cultural development. This information helps the ecologist determine the need for ecological restoration measures. An entrepreneur or his consultant use the AERIUS ‘calculator’ to determine whether a proposed project will have any significant effect on a habitat and if a permit is required. If so, AERIUS can assist by providing an appendix for the permit application. The legislator will receive the application for a permit and uses AERIUS to assess whether the application is filed correctly and if there is enough nitrogen economic development space. legislation The web-based application AERIUS is being developed for the PAS (programme approach nitrogen). The eort of the program is to accede the goals for conservation of biodiversity set in the Natura 2000 Bird and Habitats directives for areas that are vulnerable for nitrogen deposition. Creating legislation to control the load of emied nitrogen and thus deposition within Natura 2000 areas as well as measures for ecological restoration, will enable sustainable economic and cultural development.

AERIUS informs the ecologist on the current levels of nitrogen deposition as well as a prediction for the future. This information helps the ecologist determine the need for ecological restoration measures.

The ability to create dierent scenarios to optimize and compare various types of measures to reduce nitrogen emissions, enables the policy ocer to assess a wide variety of applicable measures and their eectiveness in the Natura 2000 areas.

An entrepreneur or his consultant use the AERIUS ‘calculator’ to determine whether a proposed project will have any signicant eect on a habitat and if a permit is required. If so, AERIUS can assist by providing an appendix for the permit application.

The legislator will receive the application for a permit and uses AERIUS to assess whether the application is led correctly and if there is enough nitrogen economic development space.

The general public version of AERIUS II is planned for release in summer 2013 and will be the single legal instrument for calculating nitrogen deposition starting in 2014.
