Rock-n-Row Adventures has been attracting tubing and camping enthusiast to the El-

dora/Pine Lake area since 1994. Easily found in North Central Iowa at the Junction

of Hwy 175 & the Iowa River, not much more than 2 - 3 hours from any major city

in Iowa. We are the original, largest and most popular tubing resort in the Central Mid West.

The Rock-n-Row Campground & River is a PG-13 Atmosphere with ages ranging from 5

to 75 years. A large percentage of these fun loving people have been with us for a number of

years so we are one big happy family. Some of the high lights of rock-n-row adventures would

include tubing and camping of course, campfire cooking, live rock bands, djs, bikini contests,

volleyball, beer pong, flippie cup, bag toss, frisbee games, bike trails and a state ranked 9-hole

golf course located just up the road two miles. Electrical hook-ups go very fast so make your

reservations early. We run a kids special during the Iowa State Fair. August is a good time

for the kids to go on a tubing adventure, the water is lower and slower allowing the smaller

kids to explore and find the treasures of the river. This weekend also tends to be appealing to

the grandparents as well, they like to party a little too. On average a tubing adventure takes

three to four hours. We shuttle your group up river and you float back down to the Rock-n-

Row campground, there is no catching another bus and you may stay out on the river as long

as you like but you should be back before

night fall. The band will playing from 7-11

p.m. Advance reservation are recommended.

Summerset Winery is nestled on 12.5 acres of vineyard in the scenic countryside of

northern Warren County, just seven miles south of Des Moines and 20 minutes from

the downtown area. From our back patio, you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the roll-

ing hills and landscape as well as the downtown Des Moines skyline. Stop out on a Sunday

afternoon and listen to the best bands in the Midwest perform outside in the Arbor house.

We pop up the lawn umbrella’s, you can bring a picnic basket filled with your favorite good-

ies, sample wines and buy a bottle for your afternoon libations, it’s always a great time.

We produce 22 different kinds of wines, something to please every palate. Our signature

wine, Caba Moch, is a multiple gold medal winner. It is a blend of locally grown grapes and

creates a taste similar to Sangria, serve it chilled with a wedge of lime for a refreshing summer

time treat. It has been nick named “a party in a bottle,” and the ladies of Indianola call it an

aphrodisiac.. Our 2010 Frontenac won Best Dry Red in the Midwest at the MidAmerican

Wine Competition and the Harvest White is an international gold medal winner… in fact,

most of our wines are award winners, you just need to try them for yourself. Stop out for

complimentary samples of wine in our tasting room during business hours.

The doors to Summerset Winery opened in 1997 and it resides in a large, upscale barn

on the scenic Summerset ridge. The drive through the vineyard concludes at the winery of-

fering an oasis of lush landscaping, expansive decks and terraces and an Arbor House that

provides the perfect backdrop for wedding ceremonies and live music. The winery houses a

wine tasting room, gift shop, wine cellar, meeting room and grand banquet hall. Individual

tours are available by request and larger groups may schedule them in advance. Producing

over 120,000 bottles of wine a year, Summerset is one of the oldest and largest estate wineries

in Iowa.

In addition to the wines, events and scenery Summerset also offers The Inn at Summer-

set Winery which reopened in May 2011. The Inn provides an ideal setting for corporate

retreats, weddings, wedding parties, birthday parties, family reunions, class reunions and

special events. The Inn can sleep 14 – 18 guests and offers two levels of spacious accom-

modations with seven bedrooms, full access to the main kitchen, WIFI, 4 TV viewing areas

throughout the house, hot tub and various other outside amenities. Call the winery for more

“As You Like It” has everything we adore about Shakespeare: mistaken identities, laughter and even some songs. “The Merchant of Venice” is one of Shakespeare’s most controversial plays and is filled with characters rich in complexity, humor and flaws. Poised along the new High Trestle Trail, serving as the western gateway to the awe-

inspiring High Trestle Bridge, the City of Madrid is ready to welcome you.

Founded in 1883, Madrid has a history closely tied to the railroads and coal min-

ing industry. Local coal mines brought in workers from around the world, creating a colorful

diversity of residents and business. Local landmarks such as a statue of a coal miner and the

mineshaft theme of the High Trestle Trail Bridge memorialize the significance mines had in

the history of the community. Coal mining was an important local industry from 1910 to

1945 when immigrants came to Madrid to work in the mines. Due to its close proximity (less

than 30 miles) to Des Moines, Ames, Boone and Perry; Madrid has become a quiet bedroom

town rich with services and attractions that serve both residents and visitors.

In addition to the completion of the spectacular High Trestle Bridge — just west of

Madrid on the 26-mile High Trestle Trail — walkers, runners, cyclists and sight seers can

also enjoy the new Johnson Family Trailhead, located in Dalander Park near Highway 17 in

Madrid. Other area attractions include Swede Point Park (county park), which is just two

miles east of the Des Moines River. Swede Point Park offers camping (with electric), hiking,

picnicking and modern restroom facilities, as well access to the river.

In Madrid, many businesses stand ready to entertain and serve guests. Home to many

wonderful restaurants and watering holes, you can be sure to find anything you might be

looking for including ice cream, pizza, home-cooked food, barbeque and plenty of places to

enjoy a cold beer, glass of wine or cocktail with friends and family.

If you’re looking for a place to locate your business or your family, Madrid is a great

place to consider. In addition to being a convenient location close to many major employ-

ers, Madrid provides the benefits of a small town, including an unconsolidated K-12 school

system; a variety of youth and young adult activities; several day-care options; the new High

Trestle Trail; a wide range of housing, services and activities for senior citizens; and many

active community organizations. For information on Madrid, point your browser to www.

madridiowa.com.

the land but with a contemporary twist. Faulconer Gallery at Grinnell College in Grinnell presents outstanding exhibitions of

art by regional, national and international artists. Located at the heart of the Bucks-

baum Center for the Arts, designed by Cesar Pelli, Faulconer Gallery brings contem-

porary and historic art to central Iowa. With 7,400 square feet of dramatic space, Faulconer

Gallery offers an ever-changing schedule of exhibitions and a wide range of programming.

Recent exhibitions have included photography by Liz Steketee of California, Ming-era

Chinese books, prairie-school architecture by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony

Griffin, Sandow Birk’s American Qur’an and prints and drawings by South African artist

Diane Victor. Faulconer Gallery’s collection features European and American prints, draw-

ings and photographs with a special focus on works of social protest.

This summer we present an exhibition of artists’ portfolios of prints and photographs,

all drawn from the collection. The works span the past 70 years and provide a rich look at

the ways artists develop an idea through multiple images. Featured artists include William

Kentridge, Tacita Dean, Roger Shimomura, Anna Gaskell, Michael Mazur, Virginia Myers,

Sean Scully, Hung Liu and Edward Burtynsky, among others.

Visit our website for a complete list of exhibitions and programs, including artist talks,

hands-on activities, performances and community events. The Gallery is open every day

except Monday and is always free.

While in Grinnell, be sure to tour the Grinnell College campus and our historic down-

town. Grinnell is rich in architecture, with buildings by Walter Netsch, Cesar Pelli, Holabird

and Root and Louis Sullivan’s Merchants National Bank. Enjoy the twice-weekly Farmer’s

Market, music in Central Park, the Grinnell Historic Museum and events sponsored at the

College and by the Grinnell Area Arts Council. Our great restaurants provide a range of din-

ing options.

Grinnell College is one of the top undergraduate, liberal arts colleges in the United States.

Founded in 1846, the college enrolls 1,600

students from the U.S. and the world on its

four-year coeducational residential campus.

Selective in admission, Grinnell fosters criti-

cal independence in its students within the

context of community, social responsibility,

intellectual rigor and social diversity.
