E.P.I.C.- Wednesday Nights

The church that I attended in high school was dedicated to Wednesday

night programming that helped to nourish the spiritual life for our entire

church community. From Children’s ministry to a common meal to adult

Bible studies to choir rehearsals, our whole building was lit up

with life and spiritual enthusiasm.

To be honest, even as a high schooler, I enjoyed Wednesday nights more

than both the Sunday morning worship services and the youth group pro-

gramming. I probably could not articulate it at the time, but there was

something about the evening meal, the fellowship, the worship, and the

study with the different generations of the church family that made it

seem more real than any other experience in the church.

That’s why I get so excited about our EPIC Wednesday nights at both of

our campuses. During these evenings, in the middle of the week, the

church gathers back together for mutual encouragement. I know that not

everyone at Advent has the margin in their schedules to attend Wednes-

day nights. However, I do think that some of us have the open schedule,

but we may have been too timid to try it out up to this point.

There are plenty of reasons to check it out. First, we have opportunities to

serve our church in different ministry areas: from helping out

in the kitchen to helping to prepare dinner to being a volunteer in our

Children’s ministry. Second, there are a few adult studies to attend

in order to grow in our faith. We encourage you to try Wednesday nights

out and see if you fit within one of our Fall Studies.

Lastly, we are adding a new component to our Cordova campus lineup:

Re:Set Worship. Re:Set will be a shorter worship service from 6:15-6:45pm

in the Upper Room, 2nd

floor Cordova campus. During Re:Set we will sing,

hear a short lesson from the Scriptures, and take Holy Communion each

Wednesday night. This might be especially compelling for parents for

the service will meet while their children

are enjoying our top-notch EPIC program.

My encouragement is for us all to give Wednesday nights a try.

Cheers,

Joe Skillen

Advent doesn’t believe our children are the next generation of the church; we don’t believe they are Jesus follow-ers in-waiting. We believe they are the church right now! So we place an em-phasis on ministry for and by children and teenagers by having them gather to connect with each other and Christ. With plenty of fun and vetted, trusted, and enthusiastic staff and volunteers in various settings, children and teen-agers get together in authentic com-munity to discuss real truths to change

What about my children? their lives and the world bit by bit. You can find out more about Advent Children’s Ministry by contacting Kimberly Munafo and Advent Youth Ministry by contacting Greg Aydt.
