PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES

The UPC at the Vilanova i la Geltru Campus and UPC- CIMNE at Castelldefels willhost the ERCOFTAC international summer school on Bio- Environmental TurbulentFlows. This follows similar events organized in Vilanova, Madrid, Warsav, Prague,Volos, Castelldefels and Barcelona since 1992. The main motivation for this 2017Workshop and Summer School is to study in depth Turbulence in Non-Homogeneous,non-isotropic and non-stationary turbulence mostly affected by body forces, which istypical of Real complex and Environmental Flows. Thermal, Magnetic fields,Stratification and Rotation are fundamental processes afecting turbulence in medicine, biology industry and in theenvironment; for example to predict convective heattransport, pollutant diffusion and mixing. Reactions, Transport in Environmental FuidDynamics, direct and inverse cascades in turbulence at different scales will bediscussed. The experimental part of the school and a series of student Workshop andPoster presentations will also take place at the ERCOFTAC PELNoHT, UPC,FLUMEN and CIMNE Laboratories with dedicated Laboratory visits during theworkshop. ADVANCES IN TURBULENCE XXIII Workshop is focussed on thesubject of Biological, Biophysical and Medical-Environmental and Sport applications. The complex scaling techniques are fundamental in real flows, in human studies, topredict diffusion and mixing, in soil processes and percolation, in sediment transport, heat and mass transport, etc. The dynamics, direct and inverse (Energy, Vorticity andHelicity) cascades in turbulence at different scales will be discussed as an activity ofthe ERCOFTAC PAN-EUROPEAN LABORATORY ON NON-HOMOGENEOUSTURBULENCE .

MAIN TOPICS OF THE Workshop Multi-scale processes in Fluid Dynamics, Scale to Scale Turbulent transfer andcascades, 3D and 2D Turbulence, Biomedical simulations and HPC,Astrophysical and Geophysical Turbulence, Structure function analysis, intermittency, Multi-scale topological and geometrical methods. Fractals,Sedimen transport and percolation, Pollution detection, control and prediction.Cloud, Hydrology and Precipitation Topology, River and Ocean surface PIV,Open Foam Sulations; Laboratory experiments and Remote Sensing Observations.Drone, Airborn and Satellite methods. Flow Instrumentation.
