All academic programmes and modules are presented in English.

Due to the structure of all Cranefield's academic programmes, students optionally spend only one morning per month to attend classes live or live online via the Internet. If unable to participate, an online recording can still be viewed later.

In between classes student syndicate groups meet outside of work hours to discuss practical case studies. Cranefield's state of the art teaching and learning technologies allow classes, and even syndicate group meetings, to be attended live online via the Internet anywhere in South Africa and the world.

OVERVIEWCranefield College’s Advanced Certificate in Project Management Course is designed for working professionals who wish to master the essentials of project management, general management, and business management in the new Industry 4.0 (Fourth Industrial Revolution) economy and apply cutting-edge management skills and principles in their work context. The Advanced Certificate’s distance learning format and structure allow for flexibility and meet the needs of working professionals with limited time to study.

One cannot be a successful project manager without the supporting knowledge of general management and business management. The project management tools and techniques covered by the Advanced Certificate is fully aligned with PMI’s (Project Management Institute’s) PMBoK (Project Management Body of Knowledge). Successful candidates who have sufficient practical experience will be equipped to sit for the PMI’s PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, and the less experienced for PMI’s CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) certification. The Advanced Certificate in Project Management is an accredited NQF Level 6 qualification.

After completing the Advanced Certifi cate, students will be able to:

• Understand and evaluate the manager’s task and the management processes in organisations operating in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) economy.

• Perform general management and business management practices and processes required in a project management contextual environment, especially in terms of human and physical resources.

• Apply project management planning, implementation and control to deliver successful projects that are on budget, on scheduled time, and of a high quality.

• Perform project accounting and contract management activities as part of an overall approach towards successful project management.

• Exercise supplier relationship management with the aim of effectively procuring goods and services required to perform the project scope of work.

• Assess the resilience of an organisation’s business model by mitigating the unwanted risks in the economic environment.

The learning programme requires the execution of learning content (modules) in a specifi c order that is in line with the accepted national and international bodies of knowledge of this applied science. The different learning modules therefore are offered in a prescribed order.

ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATIONAccreditationThe Advanced Certifi cate (AdvCertPM) is accredited by the Council on Higher Education at NQF level 6, with 120 credits (consisting of three modules of 40 credits each). The qualifi cation is registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training. It particularly serves to meet the need for a professional qualifi cation on the under-graduate level in project management.

Certifi cationThe (AdvCertPM) is fully aligned with the USA Project Management Institute’s (PMI) PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) and is an ideal route towards gaining international certifi cation as a CAPM (Certifi ed Associate in Project Management), and PMP (Project Management Professional). It is also fully aligned with the International Project Management Association’s 4-level certifi cation. These are deemed to be the internationally most important industry-recognised certifi cations for project managers.

PROGRAMME AVAILABILITYModule Mα is offered four times, while modules AC1 and AC2 are offered twice per year at Cranefi eld’s main tuition centre in Midrand, Gauteng, and streamed live online globally. This allows for fl exibility throughout the year to commence and continue with the programme.

If undertaken live online, or at the main tuition centre in Midrand, the learning programme can be commenced in any quarter of the year, as follows:

LEARNING MODECranefi eld College offers technology-enhanced distance learning. It entails the integration of self-study, live

online classes, traditional face-to-face classes, and online high defi nition (HD) videos of important topics. Cranefi eld’s learning mode is supported by its online Learning Management System (LMS).

CLASS ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTSAll modules (class-based or live online):

• Although Cranefi eld operates on a distance learning mode, students are advised to attend classes whether online or on on-site.

• It is particularly advised to participate in the fi rst lecture day of each module.

Duration: Five hours on a lecture day

• After the formal morning lecture session, the auditorium facilities are at the disposal of attending students who wish to have syndicate group discussions.

• The lecturer will be available to assist with individual or group matters.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

A Higher Certifi cate, or at least a Senior Certifi cate (‘matric’ or international equivalent) coupled with relevant management experience and/or additional courses for the purpose of recognition of prior learning (RPL). For the purpose of RPL assessment, all relevant information and documentation, including a detailed curriculum vitae (particularly describing the applicant’s work experience) must be submitted to the Registrar (Academic). This category is designed to provide opportunities to those who meet the following criteria:

a. Have completed at least the National Senior Certifi cate (or international equivalent). b. Have been employed or vocationally active in the community for at least two years since earning the Senior Certifi cate, c. Have gained relevant management experience in the workplace, holding a position of authority and responsibility. d. Have completed relevant credible courses related to the required competencies at credible institutions.

Applicants must generally comply with at least a) to c) above, but evidence related to d) will also contribute signifi cantly to a favourable outcome and may obviate the need for c). Where an applicant has been identifi ed by his or her employer as having leadership potential resulting from Human Resources career-path tracking, it is suffi cient for him or her to comply only with a) and c) above.

LIVE ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING Cranefi eld College offers technology-enhanced distance learning. It

entails the integration of self-study, live online classes, traditional face-to-face classes, and online high defi nition (HD) videos of important topics. Cranefi eld’s teaching and learning mode is supported by its Blackboard Learning Management System.

With Cranefi eld’s technology-enhanced distance learning, all classes are streamed live on the Internet, and students may opt to participate in any or all of their classes online, thereby saving time and travel.

How does it work?• Cranefi eld uses its Blackboard Learning Management System as

a platform for the Live Online Distance Learning program which enhances the entire process for lecturers and students, also enabling students to attend classes interactively online.
