Professional development principles

Learning environment

- Built on what the trainees already know, valuing the various informal and alternative strategies trainees use to solve problems.

- Include opportunities for the trainees to question, reason, solve problems, define goals and monitor their own progress by using estimation, mental math, computation and technology when appropriate.

Why?

• We say 2 kg cream, but 2 l butter milk?

• Degrees are used for: temperature, geometrical angles, longitud, latitud, army, professional level in education, grammar, mathematics?

• People weigh: nails, hoses, large cords?

Page 15: Adult Numeracy
Page 16: Adult Numeracy

• How do we calculate: 5% of 23.000 EUR?

• How do we write: One hour and half?

• How do we understand: 3 x day?

• How counts the money: the housekeeper, the coins colector from the coffee machine, the shop chief, the finance minister?
