The purpose of this conference is to train, equip and certify the Body of Christ of Greater Austin to enable them to help those in need, prior to a disaster (Luke 10:25-37). At the conference, ADRN will offer 6 specific areas for participants to be trained (not including some of our break-out sessions):

1. *EVACUEE CARE/Primary Disaster Response Course – ADRN highly recommends this training for participants who are called to help people in times of crisis and/or called to the mission field. This training will equip participants to deal with the mental, emotional and spiritual issues most people encounter in times of disaster, including trauma, learning debriefing techniques and much more. The training will be presented by Melissa Slagle, a consultant and International Trainer, a Certified Traumatic-Stress Specialist (CTS), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). All participants will receive an internationally recognized certificate of completion in Disaster Psychological 1st Aid and CISM/CISD (Critical Incident Stress Management/Critical Incident Stress Debriefing). This training is also recommended for teens 16 years of age and above and for the elderly. $70

2. DISASTER SHELTER Preparation – The City of Austin, Office of Homeland

Security and Emergency Management Department, Surrounding Counties and the American Red Cross have asked ADRN to help them staff and manage disaster relief shelters in greater Austin. ADRN will prepare participants to take the next steps in becoming shelter staff and managers. Free

3. FAMILY PREPAREDNESS Training – ADRN’s goal is to ensure that Christians

are not only trained and equipped to help others in times of disaster but prepared personally and for their families. Dr. Paul Williams, author of “When All Plans Fail” will offer two different levels of family preparedness training. Free

Page 2: ADRN Letter to Churches-emailfiles.inspyred.com/webfiles/73786/ADRN Participant Conference Pac… · Fulton is FEMA certified to teach the CERT Certification course any where in the

4. BIBLICAL READINESS Training – ADRN believes the body of Christ as a whole, needs additional spiritual equipping and training to better prepare us to help those affected by disaster. This session will focus on ways to pray, care and share with those affected by disaster. Free

5. BUSINESS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS WORKSHOP – ADRN is

offering a business preparedness class to prepare and empower local businesses for potential emergencies, both natural and man-made, through education, resource management solutions, and aligning with local emergency management authorities. Free

6. IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER IN TIMES OF DISASTER – Prayer invites God

to intervene supernaturally in our lives. In times of crisis, people become keenly aware of their own limitations and their need for divine aid, but they may need help or encouragement to pray. This class will offer practical instruction in listening for direction from God, responding to people with sensitivity, and keeping one’s own heart strong in times of crisis. Learn how to pray in faith with those in need and minister/comfort to those questioning God’s goodness in the midst of disaster. This training will be presented by Thomas and Amy Cogdell and Matt LaCour. Free

7. *1st RESPONDER Training – ADRN highly recommends and offers CERT

training, which educates participants about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. These include Fire Safety, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search & Rescue, Disaster Psychology, Terrorism and a Disaster Simulation. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. This training is nationally recognized and supported by FEMA and the Office of Emergency Management/Department of Homeland Security (CERT – Community Emergency Response Team). $40

*Note: CERT training will only be provided outside of the Disaster Relief Training Conference due to the course time requirement of 20 hrs. The training will be held at the Promiseland Church, Raymond Light Bldg (1504 E. 51st Street, Austin, TX 78723) on June 7th-10th from 6PM-10PM and June 13th from 2PM-6PM. The training is $40 per person. To register, please visit www.adrntx.org

For more information on the conference, email [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you there. God bless! Sincerely, Daniel Geraci Executive Director

PARTNER WITH ADRN

THE PLANADRN has divided the Greater Austin area into 12 sectors, mobilizing and preparing churches within each sector to respond quickly in times of disaster. Each sector has at least one Regional Coordinator who works closely with the community of churches, ministries, businesses and their resources within the sector.

Each Church, Ministry or Business in the network is asked to recruit a Disaster Relief Coordinator (DRC) to act as a liaison between their organization, volunteers and ADRN.

ADRN’s Regional Coordinator will directly work with every Disaster Relief Coordinator in their sector to collect data, help them initiate volunteer drives, organize vital resources within their organization, potentially provide additional shelter space and facilitate training to equip, prepare and credential their volunteers.
