Adopt-A-School Program

Under Republic Act No. 8525 otherwise known as “Adopt-A-School

Act of 1998”.

It was enacted last February 14 1!!8.

" It re#ers to a $echanis$ which allows pri%ate entities to assist publicschools whether ele$entary secondary or tertiary pre#erably locatedin any o# the twenty &2'( poorest pro%inces identi#ied by the )residential

*ouncil #or *ountryside +e%elop$ent or any other ,o%ern$ent a,ency

tasked in identi#yin, the poorest pro%inces in but not li$ited to the

#ollowin, areas- sta## and #aculty de%elop$ent #or trainin, and #urther

education construction #acilities up,radin, o# eistin, #acilities

pro%ision o# books publications and other instructional $aterials and

$oderni/ation o# instructional technolo,ies.

adoption shall be entered into between the Adoptin, )ri%ate ntity

and head o# the school concerned. It will be rati#ied by the

concerned R+ o# *9+ )+ o# 0+A and +i%ision uperintendent

o# +epd. 0he a,ree$ent will be %alid #or a $ini$u$ o# at least two

&2( years subect to etension.

Procedures for Participation in the ASP

=uali#ication o# Adoptin, )ri%ate ntity $ust possess the#ollowin,-

b. It $ust ha%e been in eistence o# at least one

&1( year as shown in by its Articles o#

Incorporation #ro$ * or *erti#icate o# Re,istration

c. It $ust not ha%e been prosecuted and #ound ,uilty o#

schools located in poorest pro%inces low inco$e

A re%iew o# the adoption shall be undertaken by the >ocal

chool ;oard &>;( o# the pro%ince or city where the school is

located. Aside #ro$ >; the )0+* and *9+3)AU*

Re,ional o##ices $ay conduct re%iew o# the pro,ra$ and sub$itthe results to the *oordinatin, *ouncil.

0he adoption pro,ra$ can be ter$inated per

reco$$endation o# the said ,roup a#ter an appropriate re%iew to

the *oordinatin, *ouncil &**(. 0he adoptin, entity $ay appealthe assess$ent to the ** .

0he *oordinatin, *ouncil will periodically issue standardsand ,uidelines #or the re%iew o# the A) i$ple$entation.

0he results o# the re%iew shall be taken into consideration in

the assess$ent o# the application #or ta credits by the adoptin,

entity.

0he decision o# the *oordinatin, *ouncil is #inal and

unappeasable.

Claim for Tax Deduction by ri!ate "e#ident " 0he Adoptin, )ri%ate ntity shall #ile an application #or ta

deduction acco$panied by supportin, docu$ents to the

*oordinatin, *ouncil throu,h the National ecretariat.

0he *oordinatin, *ouncil shall act within thirty &7'( days#ro$ the receipt o# the application by ecretariat.

Upon appro%al o# the clai$ by the *oordinatin, *ouncil

the ecretariat shall endorse it to the Re,ional +istrict

:##icer o# the ;ureau o# Internal Re%enue &;IR( ha%in, the urisdiction o%er the place o# business o# the Adoptin,

)ri%ate ntity.
