Shapes”, and "Collages" also on this website, provide these basic skills.
• Instructions o From the Adobe Elements “Splash Screen” select “Start from
Scratch”
o Set up your canvas at the size you desire, this example will be 10 inches wide by 7.5 inches high:
o Gather a collection of digital pictures to use in your collage and open them in Elements: file/Browse Folders:
o Open the pictures you want to work with:
o Move the picture over to your working canvas that you want to use for
your background. Background layers can be moved by dragging them from the layers palette:
Draw from here To here
o Resize your picture as needed:
o Add other elements. This example uses the lasso tool and the feathering technique to move another daisy to the working canvas:
First, select the lasso tool
Second, trace around the object
Third, select Select/Feather
Fourth, adjust the feather radius of the feathering, usually 15 pixels is a goo place to start, you can always adjust if necessary
Last, Select the move tool and drag the featheobject to the working canvas
red
o Add the baby picture using the same feathering techniques or try the magic wand if there is a large contrast between the babies face and the background:
Add to the selection, until you have most of the background selected
Select/Inverse when you use the magic wand, since what you have selected is actually the background, and you want the "opposite"
o Select as much as you can, you can always "erase away bits of remaining background with the eraser tool:
o Use the "zoom tool" and the "eraser tool" to remove additional background, as desired:
o Adjust the elements on each layer for the desired effect using the move tool:
o Add text using the text tool. Remember to select the color of the text from the swatch palette before you start typing:
o Apply "Styles and Effects" to the text:
o Apply "Warp Text" if desired:
o Move the warped text and add your name using the same steps as above:
o Your project is ready to print and frame for your special mom! Evaluation: See rubric pdf Student Examples:
